suckmenao Posted January 13, 2011 Report Share Posted January 13, 2011 Went to touch and try cameras in BEST and Canon gallery a few days ago and thought of saving some money to get my hands on it...gosh, I've been wanting one so badly...anyway, which brand (or which exact product) should I get if I only want to use it for hobby and not professional and yet I can go pro with it? There should be camera experts here I believe There are only 2 brands, I believe you should try if u want to go pro in future: Canon or Nikon, up to you. Regarding which camera to buy will also depend on your budget, and what you want to shoot. Just my quick suggestion :Canon 7D or Nikon D300S, for serious amateurs or semi-pro.You will also need to invest in lenses and other accessories in the future for your hobbies. Nikon lenses are generally more expensive than Canon lenses.Thanks for the reply, I'm quite a generous person when it comes to something I love...and I think I'm going to use the camera for quite some time so I wouldn't mind to invest some necessary amount I've always heard people saying that it's all about the lenses...so the camera is not big deal, though I would really enjoy the autofocus feaure in my camera since I'm an indecisive and clumsy person. jjkk Posted January 19, 2011 Report Share Posted January 19, 2011 I studied photography back when it was this weird thing called 'film' and we had to process and print all our pics. I trained on Nikon and then just last year switched to a Canon 550D with a brilliant lens (which cost more than the body)... I love the 550D, much lighter than the 7D (which I think is overpriced) more focus points than the comparable Nikon and a really simple user interface. I use the 550D for serious shooting (that sounds rude) and a Canon G10 as a point-and-shoot. I learned on a Nikon F4.And some lenses are better than others - if you're a newbie you want to make sure you're not spending too much and are getting the flexibility you need.I don't call my camera, or anyone's camera a toy. If you want to buy a Sony, it's your call. Fact is, there's not a lot of credibility in Sony making SLR's, and I wouldn't use them. My bro in law uses canon and he does photography for Cosmo, dolly etc in Australia. Nikon is also very good but you will find most pros use Canon. The local press, for example switches back and forth, to whichever brand offers a better (more freebies) deal. International grade professionals also switch, depending on a number of factors. Advertising hype has a lot behind it too.As a professional photographer, I use a range of brands myself. There are aspects that Canon lag behind Nikon and vice versa. Baloo Posted January 31, 2011 Report Share Posted January 31, 2011 if you are just starting out, no need to buy new... there are lots of people bot new, and then give up the hobby for lack of time etc and selling it ...try browsing ClubSNAP... lots of used cameras for sale therebtw, SONY DSLR... is not bad at all... it is actually a Minolta. You can have a lot of megapixels and a bad lens and it's worse than less megapixels and a good lens. I stand by Nikon and Canon being the benchmark cameras, with the most lenses and the most flexibility (and I think Canon is easier to use than Nikon, and I learnt on an old F4)...
