Guest Sage
But while members are waiting to see what happens with California Fitness, where are they supposed to work out in the meantime? Going to the gym is a very important aspect of many people's lives and the longer someone goes without exercising, the sooner their muscle definition and strength level begin to disappear. On news... It's not guaranteed. Memberships continue to be honoured or not depends on whether the buyer is buying over the company or just buying over the assets. If buy over the company, they will have to honour the memberships. If only buying over the assets, they will use the premises and equipment to conduct their own gym business and are not obligated to honour past memberships. But i guess the new buyer will offer concessionary rates for old members. If we don't accept the concessionary rates. we will have to move to other gyms which might cost more

People here really don't mind spending high amount in gym membership.  I find the gyms in SG very expensive.  Here in the US I have been a member of "24 hour fitness" for over 10 years, and I pay about U$S 110 per year, which comes to less than ten dollars a month. Their gyms are large and full of good equipment, plus swimming pool.  This last Sunday I went to work out at 4AM in the morning and it was empty!  I was the only one in this big gym and I enjoyed piece and quietness (no waiting for equipment, haha).  If I lived in SG on a modest income I would explore all possibilities of working out at home.  Although a gym away from home has many advantages, with not too much space one can have a stationary bicycle to do aerobics and a variety of weights and smart devices to do some decent strength training (weight lifting).  No problems of transport, crowding, expensive fees. Cube3

What limits their number of members?  I don't know of any regulation that does this. They can sell memberships forever, and their place becomes busier and busier. People disgusted by not being able to exercise as they like will reduce their visits or go at odd hours. Guest Workout
To avoid the crowd, the only time to go is off peak hours, from 7 to 10 am and 3 to 5 pm on weekdays. After a while you should with courtesy ask the person hogging a machine to "work in", that is, use it while he rests, chats, checks on his smartphone, etc. If he (or she) refuses, you should call an attendant to complain and request that the person be asked to share the equipment. Totally oblivious to his crowded surrounding. I also see a lot of gym users who do not read (no never bother to read). He took a pair of dumb bell from rack labeled 20kg for example. When he put it back, he will just find any convenient place. Worse, he left it on the floor. After using the free weights, they simply leave it on the machine, like waiting for his maid to remove them. Guest Fit guest
Guest Fatty .. So you go gym and stay there for hours oogling (p anyway its your money and lifestyle . I see some chubby guys who are rather hardworking in trying to lose weight and trying to achieve a better health and body instead of oogling at guys ) Yes I prefer to gym alone without distraction . I'm not that to socialise as if its a wet market or coffee shop. In fact I see many loners in gyms  as well and they are fit..prefer to concentrate and stay focused . Bluerunner yeah I see dumb bells and plates lying around at times . Those "bad gymmers "are probably nanny fed or have maids at home ..expect the staff to put them back . Two guys working out together is normal; three, still ok. But four or five?! C'mon! What's with the pack mentality? In such cases, even if you ask to 'work in', what happens is you end up waiting for the whole group to finish one set each before it's your turn. Basically prevents you from doing sets with short rest interval.

It's quite different to be in possession of a machine from waiting for one. When we have the machine, our workout is the first priority, and every delay is justified for this "workout".  When we wait for one, we bite our nails and hate the other one who takes some seconds of rest.    You can wait until the end of the world for everyone to be considerate. But it is very positive to be assertive and ask to work in when those using the equipment are making long breaks.  Especially if it is a group who takes turns.  They should not mind if someone else takes turns too.  And having others work in makes people conscious that others want to use the equipment too, and hopefully they become more considerate. Guest Guest
Most people are selfish, if a person is selfish, he will ends up as inconsiderate and insensitive, so he would hog the machine or just leave the weights laying around. But sadly this is a real fact in our society, if everyone is so considerate and think of others, this world would be peace but it's isn't at all. Those who stay long inside either is out of shape or guys with hot bods which could be gay.  Safra membership is not open to foreigners.
