I successfull down-PES-ed!

BUT

OKAY GUYS I NEED HELP SERIOUSLY!

I am 18 years old and taking A levels in 2 weeks time. But that is beside the point.

I was graded PES B2L3 permanent and Excuse Range because yours truly have some eye problems.

I want to ask these folowing questions:

- Excuse range = no shooting and grenade?!

- Excuse range = combat service straightaway?

- Since i am PES B2L3, I am still required to take my yearly IPPT until i reach 40. (Man, thats 22 years of NAPFA...KNNCCB). But i heard that combat service vocations (assuming that i get one) places far less emphasis on IPPTs and whatnot than those in the combat line. Is that true?

- How is BMT like? For my case? Hahha

Looking forward to it :)

Sianz.

The reason for creating the new B2 PES status is because they want more people into combat vocations which is limited in the old C1 PES which yours would have been in the old system.

Excuse range may not totally excuse you from grenade and shooting since that should be excuse firearms (unless they renamed). Since they gave you a B2 PES, it means they feel that you are still fit for combat but it does not mean they must post you to combat.

IPPT is required for everyone above PES C2 so you are still eligible and required to take it. Combat service support still requires annual IPPT passing since its still part of SAF though how strict and particular they will be depends on the unit itself.

Personally i was in combat service support and people in my unit who fails IPPT has to attend RT so that shows that emphasis is placed on it as well even though we not combat.

Regarding what is the BMT like, this is taken from mindef website

The new 9-week PES B2 BMT programme will be conducted for recruits who are medically fit for deployment in selected combat and combat support vocations, such as signal operators, combat medics and naval system operators. The new 9-week programme will include customised physical training, as well as basic combat training to prepare them for their combat and combat support roles

Well to add on:

for rifles and grenade excuses are:

Excuse Live Firing, Firing of blanks, Excuse Grenade.

=================================================

The Excuse range just means that you can't shoot in the range, doesn't mean that you can't do SIT test's blank firing.

=================================================

Well PES B2 Prolly would be posted to Combat Support Unit and some to Combat Service Support unit, while you still is a Combatant... which is good since you draw the combat pay while you are in CSS unit... I think that's how it works...

Anyway FYI B2 from this DEC onwards will have ur Trg for 8 weeks in Tekong, before going to mainland on the last week for ur parade rehearsal... and the parade is held in one of the camp in the north area. =)

Grass is always Greener on the other side....don't you think so? O.o

You only get combat pay if you are in a combat vocation. Its not PES dependent but vocation dependent.

yap agree with descca, is vocation dependent... however, if u are hardworking enough, under combat service support, i might go for spec course to get sgt rank... mscc? thats for the tech, not sure the rest is call wat....

Only auto tech MSCC is decided AFTER being trained as a autotech. Supply and Transport specs are usually directly posted as a spec to STC for their supp/trans supervisor course and very rarely or maybe even never at all from a current storeman/driver.

The worst thing about this PES is that it doesn't matter if you got Silver or Gold for your IPPT, you will still serve a mandatory 2 full years of service. Wasn't told about this clause when I was given my PES status, if not I would have fought against it.

FYI : 1.PES B2L3 does not necessary means that u are surely be posted to combat support. And even if u are pes A that is still chances that u will also be posted to CS.IT mostly depend on the need of SAF, thus they will deploy the enlistees accordingly.

2. Combat Support does not mean that there is no emphasis for fitness.I am currently pes C1L3 which is similar to u.However, in order to promote u will need to pass your ippt.Failure to do so will mean less income & struck at LCP? We still have PT but it just that we do less.

Hope these info helps..

Well i know that whether you are posted to combat support vocations or not is uncertain. My cousin who is PES A also went on to become a clerk at the Air Force, But im just enquiring on the probability of me not getting a 'choing sua' unit bearing in mind my PES status and my excuse range status.

So what is my pay capped at? IPPT and RT is a complete waste of time for combat support ppl, imo.

Partly cos i would fail them ;X

Shouldn't you be preparing ur A's?

The probability of such things is quite hard to predict, there are many vocations out there that u are still eligible for.

As mentioned, excuse range doesn't mean you cannot handle the rifle itself so it seems you are still able to carry the rifle and do most of the exercises etc.

Pay cap depends on your vocation and rank as combat service support (CSS) personnels can still get 3SG while combat support vocations will get the $100 combat pay but the highest you can ever go should be a CSS 3SG which is about $740 a month.

In SAF, as long as you are IPPT illegible, you need to past IPPT or attend RT. Combat support or CSS personnel doesn't mean you no need run, go outfield etc etc

It just differs in the type of BMT you will go.

PES A BMT next week means u past ur NAPFA so fitness wise you should be fine. All you need is to be able to get used to the military lifestyle and the relatively pack training schedule and the 9 week will pass quite fast.
