lean n mean
It is super well-organised this year. The organisers did a great job. There were fewer policemen around and the general feeling was one that is relaxed and not at all militant. 28,000 turned up!

(Photo: Goh Chiew Tong)SINGAPORE: Pink Dot SG, the annual rally to support lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) rights, had its annual light-up on Saturday night (Jun 13).It was a sea of pink as supporters turn out in full force at the event's seventh year at Hong Lim Park, and organisers said they had the largest turnout ever with some 28,000 people. In a news conference earlier in the day, organisers said the growing numbers point to a more accepting Singapore. Plans to expand the event are also in the works, but only if they are able to find a larger venue.Organisers say this year also marked a record number of sponsors but declined to reveal the event's total sponsorship. They say that with local entertainment giant Cathay Organistation coming on board, they are hopeful more local companies will declare their support next year.Pink Dot has also travelled beyond Singapore's shores. Last week, Taipei held its first ever Pink Dot. Others holding their versions of Pink Dot annually are Hong Kong, and Okinawa in Japan. The other segments were so boring. Even Hirzi didn't shine without Munah's presence. Why don't they invite Nathan Hartono and some of the singapore idol finalists to perform next year? The shape is rather clear and "refined". If it's not a friendly joke by someone on our side, which I find rather amusing and funny, I hope someone will make a police report. It's so easy to catch that prankster by filming down the evidence and counting the number floors to locate his room and timing the person booked the room. groyn88
http://www.theonlinecitizen.com/2015/06/pink-dot-packs-hong-lim-park-once-more/Pink Dot packs Hong Lim Park once moreJune 14, 2015 by Kirsten HanDescribing Pink Dot as having had a “record turnout” is starting to become old hat, as organisers say 28,000 people joined in on the annual gay rights rally this year, breaking the record of 26,000 in 2014.Hong Lim Park was once again packed with pink-clad supporters from Singapore and overseas, although only Singaporeans and Permanent Residents were able to form the lit-up human pink dot at the end of the night.Attendees form a giant pink dot in Hong Lim Park on 13 June. Photo courtesy of Pink Dot.Attendees form a giant pink dot in Hong Lim Park on 13 June. Photo courtesy of Pink Dot.Growing in size and scope every year, this year’s Pink Dot featured speeches from LGBT individuals and allies such as Vanessa Ho from Project X, Avin Tan from Action for AIDS and long-time gay rights activist Russell Heng. Performers in the well-received concert included singer-songwriter Inch Chua, rapper ShiGGa Shay and dance group Plus Point.Yet many challenges still remain for the LGBT community. With Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong still insisting that Singapore is “not ready” for same-sex marriage, LGBT activists are no closer to getting Section 377A of the Penal Code – which criminalises sex between men – repealed. The Media Development Authority (MDA), too, has remained steadfast in its treatment of media with LGBT themes. Taiwanese pop star Jolin Tsai’s song and music video We’re All Different, Yet The Same – which depicted the discrimination that LGBT people face in not being able have their families formally recognised – was recently banned from mainstream broadcast.Pink Dot’s spokesperson Paerin Choa revealed at the press conference that a 15-second promotional video made for screening in cinemas was yesterday refused a rating by the MDA. This means that the video, which contained footage of last year’s lit-up Pink Dot, cannot be screened in Singapore and is effectively banned.Organisers said MDA’s cited reason was that “it is not in the public interest to allow cinema halls to carry advertising on LGBT issues, whether they are advocating for the cause, or against the cause.”“After the setbacks that we had experienced over the last 12 months, giving up and losing hope would have been the easy thing to do. But we also know that Singapore’s LGBT community are a very resilient bunch, and in view of these challenges, we still have much to celebrate,” Choa said.As he stood in the hot, humid crowd, long-time LGBT ally Reverend Doctor Yap Kim Hao believed that the growing crowd indicated a “very promising future” for the LGBT community.“This shows a lot of public support,” he told The Online Citizen. “It shows a public awareness of the injustice faced by the community. And the LGBT people are also no longer hiding themselves, they are out and proud.”Olivia Chiong, whose blog on same-sex parenting was recently picked up by Buzzfeed, said she and her partner Irene has watched the numbers at Pink Dot grow. “It’s a nice time to catch up with friends, some of whom we only saw last year!” she said. “Pink Dot is like Chinese New Year for gay people!”That said, Chiong would prefer not to have need of an event like Pink Dot at all: “We need to do this now, but I hope we eventually grow [in acceptance of LGBT people] until we no longer need Pink Dot.”

Guest Guest
I agree it was rude, though in a funny way. I'm not upset by it but a bit disappointed in the immaturity of some loud gays, who thinks the whole event is their playground to express their "creativity" in such frivolous manner. If I saw the person who did that, I'll probably not think very highly about that person. I would slap him or her if the face is also very "kiam pa" It was mildy amusing, but also highly inappropriate and confusing for the event to have to focus on two bright spots. I'll probably attach two electrocuted nipple clamps to that person to alter his or her state of consciousness so that he, she or it could think better, too. Guest Guest
Must give artistic merit to the dick shape though. I could even make out the frenulum and almost, the foreskin too I swear. Confirm is a loud artistic bottom drunk in that hotel room orgy to imagine such "creative" shapes to be adorn on their hotel window for the whole of Hong Lim park to gawk at. Maybe they took drugs too? If I were the hotel management and security on he ground, I would be very concerned to the extend of going up to check, or investigating the hotel's occupancy records for their IC number after the event to conduct a compulsory urine check on all the occupants and guests of that particular room on that night. I couldn't even remember what Inch Chua sang. The pink street was a joke. Better just call it a corner or really small spot, calling it a street is really pushing it. Why are they only selling the plushies at that corner, shouldn't they be selling it at the tent area for easier access? This really bugged me. Who would go all the way there when they can't even jay walk for a few miserable sandwiches, alcohol and overpriced pink dot plushie? 80 dollars for the big one, are you kidding me? Probably they could lower the price and sell more, as it is a reminder hence publicity item as the pink dot mascot too.

There are places where being gay itself is a death crime, people have been and will be prosecuted for being gay. Look at ur neighboring countries for example. I had just discussed with some forummers here that this board is now too young for me ... perhaps it is time to leave...Str8 dont have such celebration or day set aside for them because their way of life is supposedly set to auto mode and generally widely accepted. Meanwhile, gay existence has not been fully acknowledge and accepted by certain sections of society, so having such event to commemorate that we existed and would want to assert our rights in the society need to be applauded. Though the aim is for a bigger acceptance, at least we can start by achieving some baby steps. Dont ignore what these small steps can do in the long run. It is particularly heartening to me that such day existed in Singapore when a lot of our people even to this day are repressed and killed by oppressive regimes. As in all gatherings, there are bound to be more youngsters than older people. Older gays perhaps want to take a back seat & let those young, fresh faces be the spokespersons for the community (my deductions). Social media allows older gays to stay connected about the current issues facing the community. Though, BW (to quote an eg) has more postings by younger gays, there are actually many postings made by the seniors. You just need to more observant. Some even have lines created for matute individuals. Drop me a PM if you are interested in joining.

Guest Glyph
Yes a dumbass like me really cannot grasp a single idea of what you are trying to put across. But a dumbass like me understands that Pink Dot is meant to be a HEALTHY gathering for families, both old and young to promote awareness, respect and acceptance for our community. Is that seemingly creative lightings going to contribute in any way to achieve this? If it is really so representative of us as perceived by you, how come I don't catch any glimpse of it in Pink Dot's official video and pics? And I am not using your Mod status against you. I respect all the Mods for taking time to set things right in this forum, but with power comes (social) responsibilities, I was merely reminding you to be more careful of what you post as a Mod. Maybe you would like to have two accounts like what GM is doing, so that we know when you are posting as a Mod and when you are not. Sure, Pink Dot is meant to be G-rated for all to attend. But it's not like someone flashed a real dick in your face, it's just lights. If anything, it's more of comic relief to me, but you're welcome to have your own perspective of it, like how straights will always have theirs of us. It's the same thing you're doing it here. Don't be a bigot. And are you gonna tell Ivy Singh-Lim the same too? Because IIRC, she flashed her pink knickers at the end of her speech. And I'm sorry, I don't have double standards. I do not believe in segregation between mods and members/guests when this forum is clearly running on a voluntary basis with mostly user-generated content, but that is another thing altogether, and I do not wish to further discuss it here. Imagine a percentage of them pointed their pink lights at the wrong direction and the resulting aerial image captured couldn't be what it could be. That'll be a real travesty man! That'll be a real travesty man! That said, it was highly immature and irresponsible of that idiot who did that. Funny joke but wrong time and wrong place! I will not hesitate to bitch slap that person if I see him or her. Lol
navyblue
And enough about the dick-shaped lights, tbh. Calm down and laugh it off... or something.Who is the real bigot here?I welcome challenging views and am willing to stand corrected if necessary. But to sweep a related side topic under discussion under the carpet with such a statement is deemed unacceptable to me.And as a gay, I do not like to be "represented" by a dick no matter how much I love dicks. It would be totally different if those jokers have created the 6 colours rainbows instead.. Edited June 15, 2015 by navyblue

After calling some of them immature and telling them to grow up? If you haven't already realised, that's my way of saying "stop dissing each other" and get back to productive discussion. If I wanted to stop a discussion, I'd have locked the thread, obviously. Who's the real bigot, you were asking?

It would be totally different if those jokers have created the 6 colours rainbows instead.. As you can see, some other gays like it. So how? Should they bend over backwards for you? Or do you want to put it to a vote? With all due respect, if you don't like it then don't associate yourself with that kind of movement. You can always contribute to the lgbt community in other ways. Guest Guest
It's not a big deal, that dick-shaped lights. Kind of expected it at this kind of event. It doesn't means we are represented by it, just because it is shaped like a dick.
Eujiboo
I just find it annoying how we crave so much attention to let everyone know we are gayIf you wanna be thought of as equals, how about not having special parades to celebrate our sexuality?Do you see straight people parading around with sexually explicit costumes to remind the whole ****ing world they are straight? But at the same time you don't see straight people being discriminated and treated like outcasts do you . I think the point of pride parades or Pink Dot isn't to tell the world that gays are the better sexual orientation , but rather that we exist and we want equal rights . Then again , celebrations of who we are , why shouldn't that be a thing . You don't want to celebrate your sexuality and no one will force you to , but there are people who want to , so let them be . superflawless
Vote, share and rally everyone else to vote. Not that it will change anything but it's good to rub the faces of these Neocons into the mud.Vote at the bottom of the page! http://mustsharenews.com/people-at-pink-dot-2015/
