hey miaoprince

I would like to extend my thanks and appreciation to all who have taught and guided me along the way.

and the most important person, miaoprince for teaching me and not giving up on me.

cheers

Haha. Glad you made it through. At least you did put in the effort, and now you are rewarded for it.

Unlike a particular brat who wasted 6 months of my time and effort, and returned me things in bits and pieces.

Ooo there was? what happened lol

Huh? He just came for one outing. We still chat via FB.

I always wanted to pick up some basics but never had a chance to. Where will be a good place to learn?

Depends on what you want.

Formal classes that you pay for, there are those that run over 2-4 weekends, go for the private teachers/schools, but they are NOT cheap. Taught by REAL professional photographers. The free ones, esp those mainstream schools and clubs (PSS, SAFRA, KB, Canon, Nikon, Sony), as most of them have a heavy emphasis on equipment.

Casual shoot-with-friends type, you find some friendly group to go out with, shoot, talk shop and (hopefully) learn from there. Here the question is really what is the quality of the group and the outing leader(s), because it is that which makes how much you learn.

Lastly - what genre are you looking for? There are groups that specialise in a certain genre (eg portraits, or macro, or birding). But they are usually not suitable for generic shooting (though they will lay claim otherwise).

++++++

If you are looking to just learn the simple stuff like aperture, shutter speed, exposure, then reading is probably a good starting point. Then experiment with your camera in P and A mode to understand what you have read. Then go on to read Basic Composition. After you have done all that, go find a group to hang out with (ie, go outing, shoot). And try out with them from there on.

It is best to find a group (or groups) with different focus and genres in their outings or shoots, AND limit themselves to small group size (less than 8). That is where you'd really learn properly. Experiencing different genres is how you'd learn to appreciate photography to the fullest. Come join my outings if you'd give yourself a chance too. My outings have been around and running since 2003.

Thanks! I think I will pick up a book from the library when I am free. :)

I was the photographer. Choreographed and shot the picture.

Tsk tsk, Phil, whatever crossed your mind?:wacko::o

I was just puzzled between different possible meanings...

Put the blame on my poor English  , but maybe your pun was intentional? :thumb:

Anyway, nice shot (ooops!), asways.

All these are pretty fascinating. I'm a budding photographer myself and quite keen to learn from others.

I'm interested in taking landscapes and portraits of my friends.

Would love to join future outings :)

The next one will be this Sat 8.30am.
