Look at this issue from another perspective.

In some neighbouring countries - Vietnam, Thailand, China or even Malaysia, the public give way to elderly, whether it is a seat on a bus, a queue naturally, no fuss, no questions asked. Just last weekend, I saw an elderly chinese couple being escorted from the end of the JB custom queue all the way to the front by the securiyu officer to have their passports stamped. What I want to say is that, in the minds of these people, respect is being given to elderly, and their vulnerablities due to their age are considered. Whatever confucianisme or islamic teachings or not, what's most important is that humanity is being exercised.

Back in Spore, whatever the reasons are given (to be against elderly), Sporeans are indeed calculative, me-first, competitive, etc etc. I will not elaborate here, as I also do understand why the lack of humanity of Sporeans have degenerated to such a state (Blame the government, society and the education system). But Sporeans need to be mindful of how others view us in how we treat people.

In the eyes of many, Sporeans are rude and not respectful of others.

In this case, do u think this cut queue rude old lady is being fair to those other senior citizens who had bother to queue up? So do u think it will help if we were to have a separate queue for them?

Seriously it is very difficult to quantify who are the senior citizens who need help in term of the state of health. There are many healthy and able-bodied senior citizens who do not prefer such priviledge.

Perhaps the elderly in the neighbouring countries knows how to behave themselves in public, therefore getting the respect they deserve? People can't expect to behave like a bitch and warrant respect for their age.

This is certainly true in Malaysia. There are designated counters/lanes for the elderly and infirm in certain places and you will notice that they really are elderly and frail, ie, people you naturally want to protect. You can even sense that they are slightly "paiseh" for the preferential treatment although it's obvious they so need and deserve it. Ditto in public transport, those who need a seat are very obvious and most of the time shy and undemanding. The rare bitchy and gangster type of elderly normally have their own means of settling matters but even they, although often proud and defensive, don't have an overly strong sense of entitlement and childish selfishness.

http://singaporeseen.stomp.com.sg/stomp/sgseen/editorpick/1627728/johor_boy_chases_spore_woman_on_bicycle_to_return_15000.html

A boy chased down a Singaporean woman at the Nirwana Maju Supermarket carpark to return a bag containing $15,000 which she had left on her car roof and dropped on the ground when she drove off.

According to a report in The New Paper, this incident occurred in mid-January at around 10am in Batu Pahat, Johor.

Amir Azizan Hashim, 12, was on his way home after buying newspapers at the supermarket when he saw the woman put her bag on top of the car.

The bag fell off when the woman got in the car and drove off, which Amir went over to pick up.

"I opened it and saw that there was a passport, a watch and some Singapore currency inside an envelope," said the Secondary 1 student at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Dato' Syed Esa.

He jumped onto his bicycle and rode frantically after the car which was already about 100m away, managing to catch up only when the car stopped at a junction.

When the woman confirmed that all her belongings were intact, she offered Amir a $10 reward which he turned down.

"I remember my my mother's advice -- not to take other people's belongings. I wasn't tempted to take it because it wasn't mine to begin with," said Amir.

Amir's kind deed has also been circulating on facebook, with many netizens praising him for his good upbringing and honesty.

The post has attracted more than 17,000 likes and nearly 3,000 shares since it was uploaded yesterday.

Amir was presented with a certificate of commendation and RM100 (S40) in prize money by his school on Wednesday.

Amir, whose mother earns about RM1,000 a monthly and whose father receives a RM2,900 monthly pension, said he will use the money for his schooling needs, such as buying textbooks.

What a good kid. And the woman gave him $10 as a reward. I mean... I don't even...

I admire him for rejecting the paltry $10. Shows he has integrity and a moral spine... can't say the same for that woman.

$10 is really insulting, if the little boy want her $10, he won't returned the money at all.

STOMPer ABC says that he was touched on his bottom by a man while travelling on the train on Monday morning (May 14).

The STOMPer added that the man also attempted to have physical contact with three other male commuters.

In his report, the STOMPer wrote:

"I was on the west-bound train on Monday morning (May 14) and I met this man who tried to touch my butt.

"After a few times, I know it was not accidental so I moved behind him but he moved closer and tried to lean on me.

"Afterwards, he tried to touch three other guys.

"No one would stand with their hands out and with their fingers in the position like his.

"All three other men stared at him and moved away after the incident.

"Guys, please beware of this man."

Malaysia Airlines steward says when told about faulty tray table: 'I'm not an engineer'

malaysia_airline_steward_says_when_told_

When STOMPer yougang asked an air steward for assistance with a faulty table on board a Malaysia Airlines flight, the steward replied that he couldn't help as he wasn't an engineer.

The STOMPer feels that the air steward could have at least put it in a nice way, or offered a more practical solution to the problem.

The STOMPer had wrote in his email to STOMP:

"I was onboard a flight with Malaysia Airlines on Sunday (June 16) at 10.30am, when the stewardesses announced that lunch would be served in two hours.

"I then checked my fold-down tray table and realised that it was slanting, and I couldn't put anything on the table else it will be sliding off.

"Lunch was going to be served in a while so I called this air steward named Zafferi for help.

"He saw the table, and with a shrug of his shoulders and a sarcastic smile, he said, "Sorry, I can't help you. I'm not an engineer."

In a phone conversation with STOMP, yougang added:

"I expected him to offer another solution to this, or at least put it in a nice way.

"I was so put off by his attitude, but decided not to pick a fight or say anything.

"I used a pillow instead to support the slanting tray.

"Throughout the flight, I also see that he is more concerned about chatting with certain individuals, than ensuring that all passengers had basic service.

"I had my service light turned on, and for 5 minutes, no one attended to me, even with Zafferi around where I was sitting.

"I even waved my hands at them, but still, no one came to my seat.

"In the end, I just gave up. I am extremely disappointed with the service."

He looks like a princess.

If the plane is not full, offer to switch to another seat.

He should have come back after serving to help solve the problem or alert his supervisor.

The tray might not get fix but the sincere effort would definitely be appreciated.

Stomp for what? Write to MAS to complain instead.

Having said that, some paxs love to expect 1st class service when they dont travel with a "first class" airline or arent in first class seats.

haha,

i would seize this oppotunity to let my food slide off the shelf and spill the food and drinks onto the next passenger left and right , and then pretned not my fault and shrug my shoulders and stick my tongue out in tongue in cheek, since they can't provide me a working table then i will not be expected to eat my meals , and be neat about it.

Firstly they will have to do more work because they have to help you and two other passengers clean up , second when they are cleaning up i will say " you know this is all your airlines fault, how can i be expected to eat properly , when the tray is not working properly. "Make it as though it was not on purpose.

I will forgo a in flight meal , they are not that great,

there will always be spare meals on board, maybe you will be served something from first class or business class on bone china somemore if you play your helpless role correctly.  By this time and moment , the seats around you would have caught on to what happened to poor little you , and you should calmly say, to everyone else with a sympathetic look, " You should all know well enough not to fly Malaysian airlines agian in this sector, and do tell your friends what happend to me . ......blah blah sob sob..."

By this time the inflight manager will have taken down your seat number and infrom the higher ups that you are eligible for a free flight of equivalent value and your two helpless neighbour will probably be given a vouvher to use the MAS golden lounge at your destination to wash up and have a free meal at the Business and first class lounge at MAS expense.

It worked for me before , I picked up a business class , boarding pass and then proceeded to the pre flight lounge and eat until almost exploded before i boarded my flight.

There are often two sides to a story.

Many people are rude when they want something done. Have seen some classic displays of boorish behaviour by Singaporean passengers on planes and my flight attendant friends can vouch for that.

Some people think that by paying hundreds of dollars for a seat, he/she as the right to treat others like dirt.  It doesn't work that way.

This is a typical example of a demanding passenger bitching about service, and an undiplomatic answer from a servicer provider.

Honestly, does the TS expect the crew to return with a screwdriver or similar to fix the tray table after his feedback? Any sane person would just move to an empty seat. Of course, the crew should also suggest this as a solution.

Please do not expect immediate attention after you have pressed the call button. Although crew are to attend to calls as soon as possible, frequent travellers would understand that there are certain periods during the flight that crew are really caught up with chores eg each crew is handling a cart in the cabin and not safe to leave it unattended. If your need is urgent, just take a walk to the galley and talk to any crew.

Chatting with a few and not providing basic service? Hmm... I am not sure why the TS are not one of those few.

Personally I do not think that there is a disservice here. Publishing this publicly, and with the crew's picture is really making a mountain out of a molehill.

There are hundreds of passengers in the entire economy cabin with just 4-5 crew. Understanding passengers are really appreciated by the canin team rather than cherry picking ones. I must emphasise that crew must also be helpful and diplomatic in handling passengers' needs.
