Brit Pop Rules! (But Sucks Sometimes Too!)

Recommended Posts

Enough of waxing lyrical (literally),

let's get back to our regular programming once again...

Also in the running for the Christmas #1 single spot,

and currently @ #11 in the iTune singles chart,

we see a YouTube phenomenon's debut single...

Forever Yours - Alex Day

More on Alex Day here, here & here...

He's back, with a catch tune again,

the more I listen to it,

the more I think he sounds like Stephen "Tin Tin" Duffy...

Love Like Blood - Killing Joke

Remember this band?

This is their one & only hit, reaching #16 in 1985.

This one's for you Mercutio. ;)

I was seriously confused for a while, because I've never heard of them.

250px-Killingjoke.JPG2714652863_def66b9a6d.jpg

That was one severely disturbing comic ... I remember thinking "Shit, I'm just a kid, should I be reading this?"

And by then I had already read The Exorcist, wherein I encountered my first instance of the word 'fellatio' and was confused when I checked up its meaning in the dictionary. Whatever did it mean by "oral stimulation of the male genitalia"? Of course more research was demanded thereafter, I was 11. Almost.

It's not a joke, they are back,

let's see if they will score their biggest hit ever with this release!

Here's the Best British Female of 2011 Brit Awards and her new single...

All My Rage - Laura Marling

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ht3Z-bDmlM0

Strangely, Laura Marling has never scored a solo hit single to-date,

her only foray into the UK Top 100 was Devil's Spoke of 2 years ago that reached a miserable #97...

Devil's Spoke - Laura Marling

Let's see if All My Rage will bring her better luck this time!

Oh no, the mid-week singles chart, the Top 5 at least,
is all dominated by non-British acts!!!

#1 (non-mover) Call Me Maybe - Carly Rae Jepsen
#2 (new) Boyfriend - Justin Bieber
#3 (new) Climax - Usher
#4 (non-mover) Starships - Nicki Minaj
#5 (faller) Somebody That I Used To Know - Gotye Feat. Kimbra

What's interesting to note though is that Phil Oakey & Giorgio Moroder's classic is back inside the Top 40 @ #38,
as it's currently being featured as the soundtrack to the latest EDF Energy TV ad campaign...

The weekend saw a swapping of positions between John Legend & Fun,

with the rest of the Top 5 remained unchanged.

As to why John Legend is inside the Top 5 this week,

it's all due to this performance by a Jaz Ellington,

a contestant on the UK version of The Voice over the weekend before last!

Formed after being eliminated from the final ten qualifiers as part of the 2001 season of the ITV show Popstars in the UK,

Liberty X (originally called Liberty) disbanded in early 2007, but rumour has it that they are to reform,

coinciding with the tenth anniversary of their single, Just A Little...

Just A Little - Liberty X

Liberty X aren’t the only British pop group to spark reunion rumours: S Club 7, Atomic Kitten and the original line-up of Sugarbabes are also back together working on new material.

#2 (non-mover) Dance With Me Tonight - Olly Murs

#3 (new entry) Dedication To My Ex (Miss That) Feat. Andre 3000 & Lil Wayne - Lloyd

#4 (climber) Who You Are - Jessie J

#5 (faller) Good Feeling - Flo Rida

Just bought Now 81 and heard Dedication to my Ex.

It was in 2011 Dec that it charted.

There's a bit of 60s swing to it which I like.

If you like track #6 of disc 2,

I think you will also like the track below,

or track #12 on the same disc too...

Now something fun & current from another UK three-piece girl-band,

teaming up with Gym Class Heroes frontman Travie McCoy...

Yup...the 2 tracks are similar in style.

:-) thanks for highlighting this track. I haven't reached Track 12 yet.

Somehow the group reminds me of Destiny's Child.

Ok another similar song is Diamond Rings which reached the top 10 in 2009.

It's Chipmunk feat Emeli Sande (among the three songs, this is my fave)

I still like TTD's version.

maybe it's the studio effect, maybe it's his image.

but mainly it's his silky milky husky voice. The adjectives sound contradicting but that's strangely how I feel about his singing.

I do like TTD's version too (like your silky milky husky description as well),

but before we both get carried away,

let's tune back to the Brit Pop channel before we get penalised here. LOL

Gabrielle...very nostalgic.

Got me through some tough times...but actually wallowing in self-pity. :-)

But the other song Over You is the more appropriate one for self-pity but good that I can't find the original in Youtube.

Haven't got used to RIP's music yet. There seems to be a common use of auto-tune and feat. these days.

R.I.P. reminds me of Gwen Stefani in this video.

Your chart influenced me to check out the no.2 song :-)

Tulisa's Young.

Ah...you posted the song before.
