Brit Pop Rules! (But Sucks Sometimes Too!)

Recommended Posts

Oldies...ok though this is an American band, they hit the British charts in the 80s but not the US charts. I've always thought they were British...(the wonders of Wiki).

Here'e Kid Creole and the Coconuts' Stool Pigeon

and Annie, I'm not your daddy.

Marilyn, a one-time love of Gavin Rossdale...

Really? He once dated the husband of Gwen Stefani?!!!

I didn't know that at all, I only knew he got famous because of Boy George!

Anyway, here's a comedic take of this pair of friends,

from the talented duo of Little Britain...

Matt Lucas (Boy George) & David Walliams (Marilyn)

Yup. Marilyn first revealed in a magazine that Gavin Rossdale was his love of his life but Marilyn later retracted.

Then Gavin Rossdale confirmed it in another interview.

Little Britain...I can't get the jokes as much as I'd like as compared to Ab Fab.

and another from the late 80s...featuring Lananeeneenoonoo

Anyone a fan of Girls Aloud?? I LOVE THEM

(Sorry if someone asked this question prior)

Hey Ingenue, you are definitely not alone,
in fact Girls Aloud was very much discussed right from the beginning,
and in greater details too.

Here's one for you, one of my favourites...

For those of you who are not familiar with Wiley,

he's the founder member and leader of the Roll Deep collective,

scoring two Number 1 singles in 2010 with...

and

Still on Wiley & Roll Deep,

here's their debut single,

which IMO is still their best offering to date...

The Avenue - Roll Deep (#11 @ 2005)

...and this song actually samples this one hit wonder,

Heartache Avenue - Maisonettes

Thanks for the links, steppenwolf. Good to know that I'm not the only Girls Aloud fan over here.

I believe I'm the only one in the minority who thinks their best two albums were Chemistry and Tangled Up. Excellently crafted pieces of musical genius.

You are most welcome Ingenue. ",)
Do you know they have a track in their Greatest Hits compilation album (the limited double-disc edition one), entitled "Singapore"?

Yeah I take it you're also a big GA fan, that's awesome :)

I can't decide which B-Sides they have done are the best, it's probably between "Singapore" and "Memory Of You" (off the top of my head right now). What's yours?

Hmm... No favourite b-side tracks though,

no prizes for guessing, but this is still my all time favourite GA track...

The Promise (Live at The BRIT Awards, 2009) - Girls Aloud

Hit Factory Live, which takes place on July 11 in London’s Hyde Park,
was put together to celebrate the 25th anniversary of producer Pete Waterman’s PWL record label.

Though this concert failed to take place after all,
Stock Aitken Waterman is considered to be one of the most successful songwriting and producing partnerships of all time,
scoring more than 100 UK top 40 hits, selling 40 million records and earning an estimated £60 million (about $103.78 million)!

Here's their first Top 10 hit in the UK...

New at #28 this week is a six-piece indie folk/indie pop band from Iceland, Of Monsters and Men,

and the 2010 winners of Músíktilraunir, an annual battle of the bands competition in Iceland...

Little Talks - Of Monsters and Men

Does the vocal remind you of another icelandic songstress?

My favourite SAW production: There are 2...

First is You Spin Me Round - the opening of the song is simply insane.

My other favourite has to be Venus.

It's just so joyously gay.

Little Talks - the vocals. It does, it does!

My favourite collaboration between Bananarama & SAW is...

I Want You Back - Bananarama

This track reached #5 in the UK Singles chart,

and it's taken from the album Wow which is entirely produced and co-written with the Stock Aitken Waterman production trio.

Featured on the closing ceremony of the Olympics,
Kate Bush finds herself running up the charts again with a 2012 Remix of her 1985 single Running Up That Hill...

Chanced upon this on Youtube.
Can somebody tell me if Johnny is miming,
or that's his real vocals, the uncanny resembling vocals...
