James Arthur looks set to debut at Number 1 on the Official Singles Chart on Sunday with one of the greatest opening week totals for an X Factor winner. Arthur’s debut single, Impossible, has clocked up sales of 255,000 copies up to midnight last night – according to latest Official Charts Company sales data.

The single has now already beaten the total of Little Mix’s opening week last year (with Cannonball selling 210,000 week one) and is fast closing in on Leon Jackson’s 275,000 opening week total (with When You Believe in 2007).

Impossible has already comfortably surpassed 2012’s previous biggest one-week total of 152,000 which was achieved by Cheryl’s Call My Name in June.

Impossible, which went on sale on Sunday evening immediately after Arthur was unveiled as the 2012 X Factor winner, is on course to become one of X Factor’s biggest hits. Only three X Factor winners' singles have previously sold more than 500,000 in their first week – 2006’s A Moment Like This by Leona Lewis (571,000), 2008’s Hallelujah by Alexandra Burke (576,000) and 2005’s That’s My Goal by Shayne Ward (742,000).

And here's mid-week's Top 5...

#1 (new) Impossible - James Arthur

#2 (new)

#3 (faller) Locked Out Of Heaven - Bruno Mars
#4 (faller) The Power Of Love - Gabrielle Aplin
#5 (faller) Troublemaker Feat. Flo Rida - Olly Murs Edited by steppenwolf

They will also be asking fans to pre-order the track, which go on sale this Sunday (December 17), to ensure it becomes the Official 2012 Christmas Number 1. All proceeds from the track will be donated to the families of the Hillsborough victims on going legal costs in their battle for a new inquest into the tragedy, and to have the original 1991 inquest’s verdict of accidental death overturned.

The Justice Collective features artists such as...

  • Paloma Faith
  • Beverley Knight
  • Melanie C
  • Andy Brown (Lawson)

Shayne Ward....hmmm...yummyyyyyy.

Ok back to my Sec school days when Shakin' was known only to very few school boys in Singapore. I felt it strange then that such catchy songs weren't popular in Singapore.

Cry just a little bit.

A love worth waiting for.

I remember Joe Dolce! That song is infectious, albeit a little kiddy.

Novelty triumphs substance, in this case.

Ultravox's musical style is on the romantics and melancholic.

The track that caught my attention was Lament. (may have been mentioned before)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hXlcMQWb8_c

David Bowie - the opening is SOOOOOO Cocteau Twins.

I still prefer his earlier songs as they are edgier, somehow they all mellow with age.

It's mid-week and we have a new #1 in the UK Singles chart!

This comes from a prominent Dutch Dance and Electro House DJ and production duo,

with a little help from an Asian-American hip hop quartet & some menacing ducks!

Get Up (Rattle) Feat. Far East Movement - Bingo Players

And the uncensored version(?)!

here're some exciting British acts that are making little waves further down in the UK singles chart too...

Just caught Conor Maynard's live performance of Animal on The Graham Norton Show.

He sings live well. And the song has quite a slick groove.

Like it.

Get-Up By Bingo Players - the blood on the guy's face when the duck was pecking it.

The scene with the killing of the duckling may have been inspired by the movie About A Boy starring a very young Nicholas Hoult.

Ah! I simply love Attracting Flies. Too bad it's at 160.

Who's that? I really dunno. Raising white flag...

Okok me and my old songs...
