Brit Pop Rules! (But Sucks Sometimes Too!)

help.... i can't get this off my head.

Up on melancholy hill

there's a plastic tree

are you here with me?

just looking out on the day of another dream

where you can't get what you want

but you can get me

so let's set up and see her

cause you are my medicine

when you're close to me

when you're close to me

so call in the submarine

join the world, we'll go

does anybody know her?

if we're looking out on the day of another dream.

if you can't get what you want

then you can with me

up on melancholy hill

a manitee

just looking out for the day

when you're close to me

when you're close to me

when you're close to me

Argh!!!! Agadoo! No! No!

Oh gawd. Then, there's the Teletubbies Say Eh-Oh and Bob the Builder's Can we Fix It.

The Brits can be a bizarre bunch.

Simon Cowell was responsible for some of these novelty records actually (eg Teletubbies).

But on the other hand, he has also brought some good music to the UK Music scene too

(IMO or warped opinion).

Here's Robson & Jerome (of the British TV series Soldier Soldier fame),

with their number 1 singles in 1995 & 1996...

It's the mid-week chart,

and it's all changed in the UK Top 3 Singles once again...

#3 Jealousy - Will Young

#2 Feel So Close - Calvin Harris

#1 Heart Skips A Beat Feat. Rizzle Kicks - Olly Murs

Let's see if Olly Murs could retain the crown,

and notch up his 2nd number 1 following the success of his

Lyrics to Somebody by Depeche Mode.

I want somebody to share

Share the rest of my life

Share my innermost thoughts

Know my intimate details

Someone who'll stand by my side

And give me support

And in return

She'll get my support

She will listen to me

When I want to speak

About the world we live in

And life in general

Though my views may be wrong

They may even be perverted

She'll hear me out

And won't easily be converted

To my way of thinking

In fact she'll often disagree

But at the end of it all

She will understand me

I want somebody who cares

For me passionately

With every thought and

With every breath

Someone who'll help me see things

In a different light

All the things I detest

I will almost like

I don't want to be tied

To anyone's strings

I'm carefully trying to steer clear of

Those things

But when I'm asleep

I want somebody

Who will put their arms around me

And kiss me tenderly

Though things like this

Make me sick

In a case like this

I'll get away with it

2 versions of Funny Little Frog...

Belle and Sebastian is simply excellent, love their songs, in particular the earlier albums. Their B sides are also to die for. Did you catch them when they were in concert at the Esplanade??

Another band I would recommend is Camera Obscura, and also Isobel Campbell's side project TheGentleWaves. :)

Prefab Sprout... The King Of Rock 'N' Roll A Prisoner Of The Past I love the Andromeda Heights album where the latter track is taken from. :)

Oh I like Prefab Sprout too. An influence from my older brother who introduced me to the likes of The Smiths, Wet Wet Wet and The Housemartins. I think I still have the Andromeda Heights CD somewhere though I basically stopped listening to them after that album.

I love Dubstar... Not So Manic Now which unfortunately disbanded and songstress Sarah Blackwood went on to form Client... Here And Now

And I love Dubstar!!! Yeah too bad they disbanded although I didn't know that the lead singer went on to form another group. But I like the sounds of Client and Here And Now. Will download it right now. Thanks! Here's my favourite Dubstar song....Stars....I think I may have posted this before. Sorry!

My favourite George Michael song!

Big fan of Georgie! Here's my favourite song from my favourite Listen Without Prejudice album....Praying For Time.

I didn't know there's a different version of Too Funky video. Wow. It's more adult and it has more men. :thumb:

My favourite George Michael song is You Have Been Loved. It's so beautifully written, and sad.

Fairground Attraction on a Sunday anybody? It's Perfect!

BIG HUGE EXTREMELY ENORMOUS FAN OF FAIRGROUND ATTRACTION!!! Especially after their lead singer, the legendary Eddie Reader, went solo and I've been following her career closely ever since. She was "Best Female Singer" in the 1994 BRIT Award. Great voice, wonderful singer! She was here once before during the Mosaic Festival and I got to hear her sang live and autographed CDs and even took pictures with her.
