Took this song from Mr Wang's Blog - Music for a Quiet Night

It's one of those quiet mellow nights for me, so in line with the general atmosphere, I'll just share one of my all-time favourite Youtube videos.

This is Eva Cassidy, singing a cover version of Time After Time. Eva was a truly amazing singer, consistently able to bring an impressive depth of emotion into each song she sang.

The only reason why Eva didn't achieve greater fame was that she died tragically young (from skin cancer). Otherwise her singing would have placed her right up there with the most famous pop singers of the 1990s.

Thanks Henry, a million for posting Eva's singng here. Actually many years back, a friend of mine did recommended her to me, and gave me a CD compilation of her works. I didn't have the time then, to review the albumn, stored it in my cupboard containing other cds and totally forgot about her.

Little did I realized I have missed a gem all those years.

If you have friends or people whom you know, who are vocal trainers, music teachers or a speech therapist, they will tell you the best form of vocalists are those who can sing and yet can speak to you simultaneously. They include Bette Midler, Rosemary Clooney, Streisand, Sting, Phil Collins, Judy Collins, Joaen Baezn, Maureen Mcgovern, Tori Amos, Barbara Dickson...

Eva's voice will be classified as folk singing with a very strong woodstock influence.

Most people are pretty skeptical when a singer does cover songs from another.

Yet in this case, of her Time after Time , is a very different mode of feeling. Lauper's version is more to love relationship. Eva's version is like

caring for a dying friend, leaving you with the memories when the person is gone.

Songs, ain't that bad if they are done (besides the orginal singer) , in the good hands and confidence of really good vocalist, who puts a different mode, angle of feel to the song they are entrusted to perform.

For example, she did Paul Simon's and Art Garfunkel's Kathy's Song brilliantly -

Then comes along a lady called Connie Scriver who did her version of Songbird.....another brilliant performance.

The 1981 movie - The Earthlings - starring William Holden nad Ricky Schroder, was aired sometime back on TV.

The old man ( Holden) learned that he was strickened and was dying from cancer, decided to return to the Outback in Australia( a vast land of wild nature) to spend his remainding days there.

In was there , he noticed a tragedy strucked a family of campers. A 10year old boy (Scrhroder) was instantly orphaned, when the truck, fell off the cliff and crashed, with his parents in it.

Caught in a moral dilemna, he decided to bring the boy back to civilisation, which was a few weeks walk on foot.

A strong bond grew between the boy and the old man.

The old man learned what was love and forgiveness before he died

The boy learned the strenght and the will to live on , inspite the old man was no longer around with and for him.

An amazing movie containing very important lessons people have to learn in their lives while they are still alive.

This clip contains the movie trailer which gives the outline of the story.

And ends with a beautiful song - Halfway Home - by Maureen McGovern, the lady who gave you - Can You read My mind? - the love theme from Superman the Movie.

The song has a simple but powerful lyrics, encouraging people to grow up and move on, even when those they loved, are no longer there for them.
