And this lady indeed has a voice of a gem.Glad that someone uploaded some of her works. She was not so recognised much for her talent at that time (60s to 70s), althought in the jazz world did acknowledged she existed, and she did appeared in TVs and some shows.Thus not surprising she was not par with singers like Dina Washington or Billie Hoilday.Sadly she died from breast cancer at an early age of 46. It was then the jazz industry then realized they lost a gem.Diana Krall popularized this song (When I look in your eyes) in 2000 which she sold a few millions copies. But I still think Irene handled the song much better with a soul understanding the meaning of the lyrics. It was under the album - Where Is Love - recorded two years before her death while struggling at her third stage of her cancer. I think we all know where she drew her inspiration to deliever so much soul to it.This song is about understanding the love from someone, just by silence, a love that has survived the true test of time, where it was mellowed to a deep sadness and maturity. Never look back with things with hate or regret, but move on with more dreams and inspirations waiting ahead.There was once a big natural stream we used to hang out when I was kid. Filled with tadpoles, frogs , salamders, newts, water snakes, snails, water cress, water lilies and lotus flowers. We used to catch dragonflies, tied a string to their bodies while tieing the other end to our fingers. Then let them fly like miniature kites.28 years later, the stream is gone. He treated me like a son he never had.The last time I met him , he shaved himself bald, and he passed me all her songs he recorded into a cassette tape.In which among the compilation, this was his favourite song.Two days later, he called me and said he actually had sold all his properties, his house and his car, and will leave Singapore tomorrow and enter into the Buddhist Monkhood, somewhere a recluse temple in Thailand, and will never return.And I never heard from him again.20 years had passed but each time I listened to this song, I still remember Mike and his Buddhist knowledge."What have they done to the rain" is actually one of the most gentlest protest songs written against the use of chemicals against people during the Vietman War. It was written in piteous lyrics, protesting the use of the acid rain which destroyed and defaced the beautiful Mother Earth, and too destroyed the lives of many innocent people and wildlives.Till today, many of the fields in Vietnam are so badly and brutally scarred by the chemicals, leaving the land barren and useless for any agricultural activities.The Damage are almost irreversible.Joan Baez is iconized as a true singer and romantic artist, who protest for what was right, singing and understanding the suffering sentiments of the millions back then. I wish i can pick your brain and learn some stuff from u.In all honesty, the more I learn, the less I realized I actually know. I gave up the belief that I thought I knew alot, a long long time ago. Thus keep an open mind, learn and don't be afraid to explore what you want to know. In short nournish what your soul wants and needs. Discard things and people that no longer serve you any form of growth.Maybe because our life path are very different, thus what we experienced gained from our own awareness and understanding differs.I have danced with gypsies in the borders of Turkey, and campfired with real hippies who are already in their 60s-70s in the Mission Street, along Haight Ashbury in San Fransico....What I post and shared are what I went through, hoping they will help those who are still struggling finding themselves, and overcoming their own fears and insecurities, in whatever areas they are going through.However I can't please everyone. There bound to be people who hates my postings, called me a liar, a bragger,macho mary and auntie...so do you get my hint?The road to awareness and knowledge is to leave and ignore those with quarrelsome petty little minds. Let them be what they choose to be, for they can never see how silly they actually are, althought they think they appear to be very smart. Some people can't never accept and stand the fact that other people can lead a more eventful and colourful life than theirs.Voicing their miseries means they have yet to heal a long wounded ego, inflicted in one of their defeats.Life on Mother Earth is too short for all those petty people. Think Big, dont think small.You too can also learn if you want to, provided you believe in yourself. That song reminded me of the days when i was in kindergarten and during the early years of primary school. I just feel i did not fufill the potential I had back then, and I have made alot of mistakes since . I am 23 now, and I am still paying for the wrong choices I made and fighting with my inner demons to steer my life back on course again.
