Guest Curious!
Who listen to songs by 张清芳 and 苏芮?Wonder if I will still like their songs if I listen to them now? I decided not to as it will spoilt my beautiful memories of these nice songs?Just like PetShop Boys, I like them so much in the 80's but when I decided to listen to them again recently, it was quite awful! :-(
chubaholic
Before iPod, there was something called the cassette tape, and long before Kazaa, Limewire, P2P, Baidu, etc, there were record shops, which offered recording service. You can browse through the records and write down the songs you want, and for a fee, the shop will compile your selections onto cassette tape. One of the cassette tapes lying around has a playlist as follows. When it comes to Chinese songs, Cantopop was the order of the day.Side 1Tunnel Of Love - Funboy 3Hey Little Girl - IcehouseAfrica - TotoStory Of The Blues - The WahLiving On The Ceiling - BlancmangeCommunication - Spandau BalletWaves - BlancmangeLies - Thompson TwinsSide 2Get the Balance Right - Depeche ModeLove On Your Side - Thompson TwinsDa Da Da - The TrioNo Ordinary Lover - China CrisisFlesh Of My Flesh - Orange JuiceShiny Shiny - Haysi FantayzeeLove Is Just The Great Pretender - Animal NightlifeAin't Nobody Here But Us Chickens - The Stargazers Quote 我有煙但係邊個有火。。。
ExVersNowBtm
Well ... one song that if I listen to will ALWAYS remind me of my secondary school years (I was so innocent then) is Wouldn't It Be Good? Its by a british male singer. Anyone guess who that is? ps, he is not that famous...Nik Kershaw? So smart!!I used to like him a lot. Together with Tears for Fears and Bananarama. And Madonna of course.
crazygolfer
Crazygolfer, if i am not wrong you should be listening to more of Bread and Neil Sedaka. I always have a small FM radio on my buggy as I play from one hole to another .... now if i hear Bee Gees or Cliff Richard, I would think of you honey. When can I borrow your two-ball putter? Birdiecrazy, you are very cute! You are right Neil Sedaka "Laughter in the Rain" and the Bread "If", I remember this song was a hit when I was student overseas. ExVersNowBtm
When we talk about songs of our generation, a lot of people were quoting all the 80s stars like Tears for Fears, and Wham!I kinda conclude we're all in our 30s.Actually, for me, apart from those retro music, and Madonna of course (I loved all her Like A Virgin and True Blue stuff, can't connect with her later efforts) ... there are also other songs from my generation from the other side of the music world ...Hong Kong.I remembered listening to Anita Mui and Leslie Cheung as I was growing up. And to a lesser extent, Danny Chan and Alan Tam too. Up to now, every time I hear an Anita Mui or Danny Chan song, somehow, I'll start tearing. Not because I remember those good old days, but because these superstars have all passed on.

doncoin
For me it's K.D. Lang's My Old Addiction. Whenever i hear this song I always think about this guy, the misses we've had and till this day I still think of him fondly. My old addictionChanged the wiring in my brainSo that when it turns the switchesThen I am not the sameSo like the flowers toward the sunI will followStretch myself out thinLike theres a part of me thats already buriedThat sends me out into this windowMy old addictionIs a flood upon the landThis tiny lifeboatCan keep me dryBut my weight is allThat it can standSo when I try to lean just a littleFor just a splash to cool my faceAhh that trickleTurns out fickleFills my boat upFive miles deepMy old addictionMakes me crave only what is bestLike these just this morning song birdsCraving upward from the nestThese tiny birds outside my windowTake my hand to be their momThese open mouthsWould trust and swallowAnything that came alongLike my old addictionNow the other side of dayAs the springtimeOf my lifes timeTurns the other wayIf a swan can have a songI think I know that tuneBut the page is only scrawledAnd I am gone this afternoonBut the page is only scrawledAnd I am gone this afternoon Quote Love. Guest bearbear
For me it was, dun laugh ok but this song help me thru my childhood, growing up without love not really having a family and knowing from a very young age what being gay ment and accepting that i was gay but trying to understand at the same time what was going on.This song also help me when i was older and going thru some rough times with my partner. The song is "Rainbow Connection". If you really look deep into the words of the song you will realize like that song was written for that confuze child not knowing what the world may bring and not know if live is worth living. that song save me from doing something stupid when i was young because it gave me hope with the line " I've heard it too many times to ignore it. Is it something that I'm supposed to be? Someday we'll find it, the rainbow connection, The lovers, the dreamers and me."btw, for some strange reason only the Kermit the Frog version does it for me. Click here to see and hear song on youtube. Why are there so many songs about rainbows And what's on the other side? Rainbows are visions, but only illusions, And rainbows have nothing to hide. So we've been told and some choose to believe it I know they're wrong, wait and see. Someday we'll find it, the rainbow connection, The lovers, the dreamers and me. Who said that every wish would be heard and answered When wished on the morning star? Somebody thought of that And someone believed it, And look what it's done so far. What's so amazing that keeps us stargazing? And what do we think we might see? Someday we'll find it, the rainbow connection, The lovers, the dreamers and me. All of us under its spell, We know that it's probably magic.... Have you been half asleep And have you heard voices? I've heard them calling my name. Is this the sweet sound that calls the young sailors? The voice might be one and the same. I've heard it too many times to ignore it. Is it something that I'm supposed to be? Someday we'll find it, the rainbow connection, The lovers, the dreamers and me. La, la la, La, la la la, La Laa, la la, La, La la laaaaaaa (reprise from "The Muppet Movie"): Why are there so many songs about rainbows? That's part of what rainbows do. Rainbows are memories, sweet dream reminders -- What is it you'd like to do? All of us watching and wishing we'd find it, I know you're watching it, too. Someday you'll find it, the rainbow connection, The lovers, the dreamers, and you!

I also like the Carpenters' version.I guess this song has a similar sentiment with "Over the Rainbow". I just think so, full of hope, just like children. This is what we shd learn from 'em. Nope, I don't think it's childish. Listening to it once again made me think hard and seems like bring me back to my childhood.

Luckily ive listened enough of class 95 and power 98 to recognise most of those songs and be appreciative of them.my era is the late 90s n early 2000s.. where pop, boybands and R&B predominated the music scene... ive witness the dying out of boybands n the de-viginisation of pop princesses. I've R&B have decayed into dance musics with sleazy n tacky lyrics and the rise of punk rock on radio..

Guest keke
I have watched the Korean movie "The Classic" (known as 假如愛有天意 in Singapore and 緣起不滅 in Taiwan) numerous times. I really love the two songs inside the movie. I may not know what the lyrics meant but I can feel the sadness in it. These songs reminded me of my lost love ......1. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vKEPG6gpMpA...ted&search=I understand that there is a Mandarin version of the song above .... Can someone tell me which singer sang the Mandarin version and in which album. Thanks ....2. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7YcFUx2Zf_U...ted&search=Song 2 was recently used in a commercial for camera ....Importantly, there are 2 georgeous guys in the movie tongue.gif
