Thanks for the info.

Actually Charlene recorded two albumns, both are under the Motown label. I have them in my collection.

The " I have never been to Me " albumn actually contained a few good songs, well written with good melodies, of course, the credit goes to her crystal clear voice. But I was very surprised that they were not broadcasted to climb up the charts

Example

I think the duet she did with Stevie Wonder was in the second.

Wow ... "Used To Be" is a really cool song with really cool lyrics! Stevie and Charlene  :thumb:

Superman was killed in Dallas

There's no love left in the palace

Someone took the Beatles' lead guitar

Have another Chivas Regal

You're 12 years old and sex is legal

Your parents don't know where or who you are

Used to be the hero of the ballgame

Took the time to shake the loser's hand

Used to be that failure only meant you didn't try

In a world where people gave a damn

Great big wars in little places

Look at all those frightened faces

But don't come here, we just don't have the room

Love thy neighbours wife and daughter

Cleanse your life with Holy water

We don't need to bathe, we've got perfume

Used to be a knight in shining armour

Didn't have to own a shiny car

Dignity and courage were the measure of a man

Not the drugs he needs to hide the scar

Can your teacher read, does your preacher pray

Does your president have soul

Have you heard a real good ethnic joke today

Mama took to speed and daddy ran away

But you mustn't lose control

Let's cut the class, I got some grass

The kids are wild we just can't tame 'em

Do we have the right to blame them

We fed them all our indecisions

We wrecked their minds with television

But what the hell, they're too young to feel pain

But I believe that love can save tomorrow

Believe the truth can make us free

Someone tried to say it, then we nailed Him to a cross

I guess it's still the way it used to be

Boys on The Side- Many would agree this was one of the most touching movie, tale of three women, who travelled together, as they learned their own life's journey, and understood and accepted each other's internal's sufferings and demons.

Whoopi played a lesbian who searched for a new life ahead after her love affair was over. Drew Berrymore plays Holly, a pregnant teen who escaped the violence of her boyfriend's beating, and Mary Parker played Louise, an HIV victim.

Many have performed Roy Orbison's You've Got It, but when you hear Whoopi's version, it makes you tear, as she sings the song with Louise, who breathlessly sung this song, during her last few days, when she finally succumbed to the disease.

One of the best movies about friendship, besides Beaches....

Barbra Streisand - The Way We Were (1975)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n-KPGh3wysw

So many memories....both bitter and sweet.

Mmm. Mmm.

Memories, light the corners of my mind

Misty watercolor memories of the way we were.

Scattered pictures of the smiles we left behind

smiles we give to one another

for the way we were.

Can it be that it was all so simple then

or has time rewritten every line?

If we had the chance to do it all again

tell me would we? Could we?

Memories, may be beautiful and yet

what's too painful to remember

we simply choose to forget

So it's the laughter we will remember

whenever we remember

the way we were.

Remember Kylie's original version of her famous Hand Over Your Heart hit?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UYAU73hD3vo

Someone intro me Jose Gonzalez's version. When he slowed the tempo, and used solo guitar accomplishment, I started to see the lyrics more seriously painful, yet a more mature way of understanding and silent acceptance the inevitable ending of a love affair.

Now, put your hand over your heart and just listen...

This One's for You - Barry Manilow

This one will never sell

They'll never understand

I don't even sing it well

I try but I just can't

But I sing it every night

And I fight to keep it in

Cause this one's for you

This one's for you

I've done a hundred songs

From fantasy to lies

But this one so real for me

That I'm the one who cries

And I sing it every night

And I fight to hide the tears

Cause this one's for you

This one's for you

This one's for you

Where ever you are

To say that nothing's been the same

Since we've been apart

This one's for all the love we once knew

Like every thing else I have

This one's for you ohhhhh

I've got it all it seem

For all it mean to me

But I sing of thing I miss

And things that use to be

And I wonder every night

If you might just miss me too

And I sing for you

I sing for you

This one's for you

Where ever I go

To say the things I should have said

Things that you should know

This one's to say that all I can do

Is hope that you will hear me sing

Cause this one's for you ohhhh

This one's for you

Where ever you are

To say that nothin been the same

Since we been apart ohhhh

This one's for all the love we once knew

Like every thing else I have

This one's for you

Carpenters - I need to be in love

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GPmhJxmGyhE&feature=related

The hardest thing I've ever done is keep believing

There's someone in this crazy world for me

The way that people come and go through temporary lives

My chance could come and I might never know

I used to say "No promises, let's keep it simple"

But freedom only helps you say goodbye

It took a while for me to learn that nothing comes for free

The price I paid is high enough for me

I know I need to be in love

I know I've wasted too much time

I know I ask perfection of a quite imperfect world

And fool enough to think that's what I'll find

So here I am with pockets full of good intentions

But none of them will comfort me tonight

I'm wide awake at 4 a.m. without a friend in sight

I'm hanging on a hope but I'm all right

I know I need to be in love

I know I've wasted too much time

I know I ask perfection of a quite imperfect world

And fool enough to think that's what I'll find

So here I am with pockets full of good intentions

But none of them will comfort me tonight

I'm wide awake at 4 a.m. without a friend in sight

I'm hanging on a hope but I'm all right

I know I need to be in love

I know I've wasted too much time

I know I ask perfection of a quite imperfect world

And fool enough to think that's what I'll find

Not sure if this has been shared as there are just way too many pages

i'm from generation Y.... but for some reason, songs from the 80s and before just have a better affinity with me

Yesterday - The Beatles

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lwS_YDzxH3M

I have a very bad habit of always clinging onto the past, and this song just sings of it

Makes me think about life and yet provide some consolation to feeling blue.
