But it is imo that the whole maturity and intellectual discourse is just a red herring for them to use because they have no idea what's the real reason why they're pissed off. The older ones feel like they're the minority now with the influx of younger and more vocal members, and their way of life is threatened by it.... not unlike the immigrants problems Singapore and many other developed countries are facing now.But unlike those in the real world where threats to their livelihood are real and valid, the older members here have nothing to lose here save for the respect and authority that they think comes with them being here first. They feel like their personal space is being invaded and their status not respected since no homage was paid to them, i.e younger people giving opinions differing from theirs, so the older ones start grabbing at straws, finding every reason to pick on the younger ones be it justified or not.So it is my stand that it is unlikely their recent sentiments stems from the lack of "mature" discussions, as shown by the threads from way back, but their inability to accept the situation where they are now the minority in a place where they used to be the majority. Simply put, they feel displaced and therefore, angry. It's only a matter of time before they start going, "Back in my days, we blahblahblah..."
