I got a Burberry Polo when I was 18. Saved up my part time job pay and got myself that shirt. I usually shop at Pull and Bear for shirts and skinny jeans, Ben Sherman or Gap for some button down shirts and Metro for my boxer briefs. I only wear 2(xist). It's the only brand that I'm comfortable with. :D

Loving this thread!

Anyway, to the accessories - i hardly accessorize!

I always wear my silver/metal watch and a bracelet that i got on my grad trip from china.

Other than that i'm a bore.

I like to think i'm not a bore with shoes and pants though.

Adore the shoes at Pedro, especially the loafers! Have bought ... 6 pairs of shoes from them? Most of them being wild leather loafers in colors such as brown/blue/red/grey.

I usually get my pants/bermudas from Zara or H&M in pastel colors and top it of with a simple shirt with the sleeves rolled up and my ( fake xD) Wayfarers!

OH COOL! I think accessories from overseas trips are cool as they remind you of that place and give it sentimental value.

Speaking of watches, I've been longing to get a stainless steel or gold watch but my hands don't seem to suit them. It's either the watch is too big for me or my wrist is too small. :(

I have that problem with watches as well!

Adore a big ''boss-like'' watch, but i just don't think i could pull it off!

off topic: Why don't i get notifications if someone has replied or posted after my post in a thread?

Is it only me, or does everyone not get notification?

Talking about Men Fashion as a whole, I observed there are two mainstream Fashion direction guys in Singapore follow.

1. Asian style (Japan, South-Korea & Taiwan). Guys following this style usually have medium length hair with a side swept fringe. Clothing are neat and fitting but tend to be on the brighter side and occasionally comes with interesting designs that is not frequently seen in everyday clothes. Typically coloured (or sometimes even brightly pastel red, green, orange, turquoise coloured) berms or jeans, casual sneakers with a pattern/printed coloured shirt/t-shirt.

This style portrays a young, energetic and playful guy. Extreme cases would be Bishonen aka Pretty Boys or Ah-bengs. However, this style suits most Asian guys because we generally lack the commercial masculine facial feature (high nose bridge, define jawline, set-in eyes and facial hair... for Chinese at least). If you do not go overboard with the colours and complexity of the clothes you will look like a Fashionista from Japan, South-Korea or Taiwan.

2. Europeanised style. Recently gaining a lot of popularity. Guys following this style usually have very short sides and heavy top, pompadour-like hairstyle. Clothing are neat and fitting as well but tend to be more neutral in colour (Brown, Khaki, Dark Blue, Light Grey) with occasional splash of colours. Usually people pair a neutral coloured pants with loafers/berms with a plain/printed coloured shirt/t-shirt. The design also tend to be more rugged, simplistic and minimalist.

This style portrays a mature, stable and sophisticated guy. Although it is an evergreen and classic style, you run the risk of being labelled as "old-fashioned" if you do not know how to match your clothes. The advantage of this style is that it is extremely flexible and applicable for most ages and most occasion. You can wear this style to work and HR (which are probably dominated by Women) will not reprimand you, instead they might admire your style. If you have plenty of facial hair, trim and groom it to compliment your overall image.

What other Archetypes of Fashion do you notice in Singapore lately?

OMG Hi-5 man! I've always wanted a huge gold watch with diamonds all around it.

And I don't think anyone receives notifications to replies on threads. :)

want to buy a new bag for the coming uni year... any suggestions? around 100 bucks.. or below of course..

not too flowery..

What kind of bag are you looking for? A messenger or a top handle bag? Leather or canvas? In my opinion, Esprit and Pedro have pretty decent bags. Man bags are quite hard to find unless you go for those branded ones.

Recently found a local menswear designer that is quite interesting.

He showed in Audi fashion festival and mercedes benz fashion week in Australia.

www.facebook.com/milsmanifesto

What do you think?

WOW really interesting! Who would've thought of adding leather collars to a formal shirt? His shapes and proportions are interesting. Especially his coats and a brown leather jacket from SS 12. I came across the label WSDM too. It has mainly street wear clothes. Pretty nice. I wanna have a look at both labels at Parco Marina Bay!

Aspiring fashionistas! Go check the new season of Project Runway! It's really really good! I mean the effort and creativity that the new designers have is so inspiring to watch. Definitely worth an Emmy nomination for the reality show.

dusty thread but hey, its the time of the year again for the Spring Summer 2013.

any thoughts or opinions for the Spring Summer 2013?

euro crisis is not making it any easier and every designer is rambling on starting a new slate or whispers of 60's youthquake innocence.

counter point against over-production, excessiveness and vulgarity?

I found Jil Sander's (yes, Jil's Jil Sander) execution of clothes to be outrightly succinct and on point. these are the clothes where at their true essence. yes, these clothes might not be Lady Gaga's proportions/ notions of fashion. However, it displays of clothes being essentially CLOTHES at its distilled luxurious unadulterated state. aptly transcending away from facade of modern minimalism and its tainted complications.

Hey Jeeves,

I feel you could try watches with a wider leather strap, around 1 inch wide.

This would help give the illusion of a thicker wrist, and it will keep the watch

in position, instead of the watch rolling to the side.

Cheers, Mike

The fashion item that seems to be in the news of late again are men's rompers/jumpsuit. They look fun and cool for hot weather. Mr. Turk came out with theirs a couple years ago, and I think it maybe time more men wear them :)

the rompers are still better than the lacy thingy

will do well with a slimmer guy w bit of built , I think

Well darker colours are always more slimming :) I think of rompers as a mechanic's overalls, except cropped.

we wil not end this thread on a romper's issue

the reason why I deemed something sg has no fashion sense, not cos they wear slippers, or refuse to dress up, I m ok with it depending on where we are goin

Clothing is about the details not the "big labels"

https://www.pinterest.com/pin/442337994628540439/ - if one is to dress this in sg, many will assume I m a chef from a kitchen walking on the street rushing to work goodness

https://www.pinterest.com/pin/249668373073532203/

these are all very good designs: of course not asking one to wear from Monday - sunday, everyday, rain or shine https://www.pinterest.com/pin/467530005044829868/

if not wearing a flat cap is considered as grandpa level, goodness me

https://www.google.com.sg/search?dcr=0&tbm=isch&q=duck+cap&chips=q:duck+cap,g_1:flat+cap&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwiL4Zye1MzXAhVCsY8KHXXaAuEQ4lYIJigB&biw=1366&bih=525&dpr=1

and all tend to wear those caps (with holes) tall - and then add w a smug look? Truckerhat.jpg

fashion is about u yourself, not carrying something that the world are all snatching to buy eg Korean big rim glasses, I qn a fren why in 2017 he just made a purchase of those specs? he mentioned cos his wife is making the purchase(but at all other situations, he has seldom agreed with his wife at all, so it is an excuse)

goodness, I started wearing those glasses in 2015 , and till now the whole world is imitating

Do you come across any other examples of such too? I think of sweatpants or joggerpants instantly (nt exactly for jogging purposes, wonder did they all purchase from cottonon, uniqlo and...)http://www.asos.com/men/trousers-chinos/sweat-pants/cat/?cid=14274

by the way, I don't expect anyone to spend a lot on expensive items, just like in a house/office, u may have just 2-3 pc of designer furniture, u doesn't need to show them off at every corner of a venue
it is fine that one has different objectives when travelling some greed for massages and massages, or saunas, nothing wrong, but for me, I tend not to shop in sg, so shortlisting of overseas apparel shops are part of the planning! (amongst the other sexual and usu touristy activities too)

nothing wrong that one has his own lifestyle but still dare to make unnecess comment (it can be on bw or in any other platform)

it is not about kimonos n hence Only jp men wear it, there are diff type for diff occasion , got the versatile type too: it just exude sexiness https://www.pinterest.com/pin/384776361895581990/

https://www.pinterest.com/pin/545920786060905897/
Singapore men esp gays (that always die in the gym -sorry about such generalisation) tend to wear ULTRA MEGA tight fitting biz shirts and only biz shirts ONLY, as though they r trying to strangle or suffocate their nipples/chest instantly!!! never have I seen in Japan before

fashion is NOT about artificially making pp felt u r wearing special, it should go with your body and doesn't make anyone feeling so uncomfy (eg just by looking at the shirt, one felt strangled)

Worst, some still dare to give advice on how to dress appropriately, when most dress like a H&M or Uniqlo factor supporter

for those guys who are bigger pack, ie at least a 5" and above, what kind of fashion underwear do u usu purchase? I hope it is not Andrew christn or the likes

There has been so much condemnation on how middle-aged male Singaporeans dress.  Things like oversized (faded) T-shirt covering their pot belly and cargo shorts  that make them look (even) shorter!

I always wonder whether there are local fashion advisers out there to assist the middle-aged Singaporean men.  Most fashion spreads in magazines tend to favour the younger set and whenever the focus shift to middle-aged, it is always the suits that are featured.

I think it is time for me/us the middle-aged men to get some attention. I know what I cannot wear (cargo pants and skinny pants are OUT).   There are some trends that we cannot adapt - the super tight UNDER-ARMOUR type of clothes is a sure No-No.

I need advice on how to dress casually/appropriately without looking like a peacock nor a sloppish coffeeshop assistant.  Perhaps someone in the industry can help, say with a budget of $100 for an ensemble-shoes and bags are not included in the budget.

a lot of business magazines target the middle class and likely a fresh grad wont be at that level......go take a look , Abang

someone abv mentioned Esquire, I really don't think they target youngsters https://www.google.com.sg/search?q=esquire&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjwmKXS7czXAhWLLI8KHYXvDMAQ_AUICigB&biw=1366&bih=525#imgrc=epLhlg2dOFavzM:&spf=1511170731256

the spread might feature young model , yes , cos it is cheaper to hire them but their clothings may not exactly for youngsters

Tangs provide such service FOC,
personal shopper: do go and approach them, tell them the budget of 100 (and start from small, not from head to toe, just purchase 2 items, after u get more comfy then u go for more) and u don't even need to buy at all

u can just leave but at least you got their advices, I trust u r damned creative , imitate their advice and do it in your own way when u r making your usu purchases be it in JB or whever

Now many has expanded into the undies, pers grooming specialised boutiques for men as well as conducting workshop

usu Robinsons don't sell hot food, but during the xmas season, they do

and 24th Nov onwards, Members rebate, I hope all these help (I m worried I might get remarks like it is too ex, hence I said start small, if they are able to convince u,then go for more)

even your balls are squashed and brain is banged ,

you don't have to called names before looking at your face in the mirror

no1 is saying u are seeking advice from me and u r NOT fit , you cannot even pay a cent for the consultation! u think u can afford the magazine monthly?

all the brands are Angmoh brands, jp brands , what is wrong w that? is there a Sg and SE Asian brand?
Which is why I purposely highlighted FOC tangs personal shopper for you

最后一次理你。。 I am almost about to sprout vulgarities at you ..

When was the last time you pop down the stores ... what clothes do they have?

Are they suitable for middle-aged men?

You are definitely on my ignore list from this moment onwards..Ciao

Why is it not suitable for mid aged? and to me u r way beyond mid age

Still it is suitable for great granduncle level , do NOT worry

I always patronised the stores though I do NOT purchase in sg at all time, that doesn't mean I don't know what is in the market or personal shoppers etc

In your brain, everything is a "No" "a rejection" a "pessimistic"thought an outright rejection

NOTHING is gonna to be useful

there r chicken brand, ReTard labels too, so ? m I to list them down?????

1 can go and google it yourself

I m tryin to say on black Friday some r having sales eg. watsons too (but I m not sure is it on their website or on actual phy store of 20%) I have no time to check hence I don't dare to post

there are plenty!

everything is about membership, cashier kept asking me to join watsons members, I declined! nothing wrong w not being a mbr

u can still enjoy some other form of discounts or sales

I don't see how is wealth related to such a common store in sg

It is fascinating to me how with globalisation, a traditional American post-Thanksgiving event, Black Friday,  has spread. I supposed just as Singles Day (11/11) became relatively popular here as well. Anyway, my concerns with globalisation is that only big companies can do so, and it takes away the uniqueness of the brand. Once upon a time, H&M, Ikea etc. was in Sweden only, now they are in every major city around the world selling identical items more or less. Same goes to Zara, Uniqlo etc. there really isn't much difference any more.

singles day only some retail practicing

by right an F&B outlet shd tap on it and offer single meals , single promo and gays (in sg likely are singles too) - not many bathhouses do promotion

Doncoin,

u r right!
I was so impressed when I was at USA H&M 7yrs ago, it has So much more variety (+ on many storey) when compared to sg, that applies to Msia's too, esp so when sg is really a small market but we attract international tourists!

which is why I mentioned that : be it CottonOn Australia (origin), Espirit, Uniqlo , Guess etc, my lady frens are all crying that  adding one threadline to last year Sweater design from UNIQLO : is this year's UNIQLO hot FASHION item on the RUNWAY or  in the promotional video of latest season items!
this is scary and I felt it is making us looking a factory items

hence the fashion experts will come in to accessorise to make your factory clothing different (sometimes when u r down u don't feel like accessorizing, u just want to go out and take a walk or ...)

even for Jp Donki ,  tokyu hands, Muji have infiltrated into sg. Recently Muji is making Sg its SEASia FLAGship store but I can see the collection is still quite far from Japan's
Jp has designs eg only limited to Harajuku, or at least only can find in Jp

while sg malls attempt to keep invite jp stuff into sg like glasses shop Zoff, etc they replicate it in EVERY mall!!!

which is why I don't shop in sg unless very necessary like daily food , daily items (a sweater is not a daily item in sg, in case many are unable to differentiate what is a daily item)

@-Ignored- one of my girlfriends who is a model, commented this to me recently. She said when you look at the history of fashion, styles didn't change as much or as fast as now. It used to take about a 100 years more or less for fashion to change (Western world. Not too sure about Asian fashion, but that's a different topic). However, it was only in the past century with industrialisation that fashion became more of a 2x a year, Spring/Summer, Fall/Winter thing. But in the last decade, it has become almost a monthly thing, with brands like H&M, Zara, promoting disposable fashion. As a model, she is happy with the amount of work she is getting, but at some point it does raise the question, how much clothes do we really need? Also, the factories that made these disposable fashion, are known to be sweat shops.

I saw this documentary a while back on Netflix. It is really eye opening and since then, I've stopped shopping and H&M etc. and bought a lot less clothes.

Love.
