According to all the Pinoy netizens, their Charice is 1000 times better than Whitney, Mariah, Celine, Christina, Sun Ho and Oprah combined. Wow she must be really that good!

Charice is currently at the state of identity crisis. She has lost her fame when she decided to leave the management of David Foster. Her follow-up international album was a flop and its release into the US market never pushed through. Her international fame was short-lived. Such a wasted talent!

Excuse me? Charice is still the most successful Pinoy star ever. She has a season on Glee, has been crowned the world's best singer byOOprah, and has topped the Billboard charts consecutively.

• Best singer in the world? In Philippines yes but in the world, most people outside of Philippines doesnt know abt her. Thats a fact.

• Topped Billboard charts consecutively? Wow. Her fans r really that dumb to think that we believe that?

i feel sad for Benigno Simeon Cojuangco Aquino III, the current pinoy president. he loves to smile at the death of others. he smiled when the hongkong tourist were slaugthered in manila. he is unapologetic over the murder of the taiwanese fisherman. It is obvious what is is in his heart. I feel sorry for this kind of boy. Still unmarried but i am not surprised.

This man put on a strong stance who refuse to back down causing diplomatic ties to be strain with his neighbours.

He is doing all these to create a sense of grandeur in his people. His main motive is to encourage heighten emotions and national pride to swell. A self orchestrated soap opera where people got caught up in the moment and forget to think about their own national woes and problems.

He just want to divert his own people attention away from home issues and his bad government lousy governance.

All this is done for the sake of political survival.

Fair enough I respect your view, you might also want to consider talking to some real Filipino to understand how they see things and also read up on what some of his detractor has to say about him.

Top of Billboard Charts? Dude, which planet you come from??? She got only into Glee because Ryan Murphy was hitchhiking on her short-lived youtube popularity! When we say world-class Filipino talents, let's talk about Lea Salonga, Cecille Licad or Liza Macuja.

Why do you say they are scheming?  Most of the Pinoys I know are talkative, not very efficient and are a bit 'blur'.  Or maybe it's on purpose, an act.

After 300 years in a convent and 50 in Hollywood, the average Pinoy is a bit 'screwy'.  He/she lives perpetually in one enormous, continuous soap opera.  They are victims of their history.

During the 'convent centuries', the layman was dominated and downtrodden by the Spanish friars and their system who made sure that these laymen "remained in their place" by enacting laws to prevent or at least made it extremely difficult for indigenous Filipinos to upgrade themselves via real estate or employment.  Over time, to get by, these Filipinos learnt to scheme, charm or blackmail their way to earn crumbs of privileges.  This is done via surface coyness, disguised "cultural modesty", affectatious submission, currying favour/"clever words", supplying illicit goods and services .....etc.  The main theme or thread which binds is basically the same, ie, a forced submission to authority because one is unable to live in a free and unencumbered way.  The more cleverly and imaginatively one submits, the better and more secure one's position is.  This betterment or security come with all sorts of 'bells and whistles' which in turn creates competition and a "fighting over crumbs" mentality amongst the Filipinos.

One major way of upgrading would be to marry a Spaniard or some other European.  If the beginning, indigenous women from some sort of local/original aristocracy would be given in marriage to the mutual advantage of both parties.  The Filipino side would get protection and minor trade benefits while the Spanish or European side obtained an inside track or easier access to local goods and land. Such marriages would be deemed proper and legitimate and engendered the admiration/envy of the indigenous masses.  Offsprings of such liasons inherited both 'better looks' and wealth and the connection between skin colour and privilege  thus became deeply seared into the Pinoy's consciousness.  Therefore, to the simplistic Pinoy, getting a lighter skin and Eurasian features would be a passport to social and financial betterment and this eventually led to casual illegitimate liaisons at any cost.  This was basically how the "loose morals" image and culture was born.  Upgrading via talent and industry was deemed a futile endeavour.  One needs to constantly scheme, scheme and scheme even more!

During the 'Hollywood years', a breath of fresh air blew into the Philippines and Pinoys found new freedoms and paths they never had during the 'convent centuries'.  There was greater hope in career choices, land ownership and business ventures.  In the 1960s, The Philippines was the richest nation in ASEAN and whose sophistication made the then Singapore look like a slum and backwater.  All of this was achieved by huge American money injections.  However, as with all economies derived from direct money transference and less on industry, you create huge wealth gaps.  Despite the change in administration, the elites-juxtaposed-with-the-'unwashed' relationship stuck.  In addition, the old 'convent' ways still abounded and submission to authorities and abiding by social norms/status were still very much de rigueur.  Once again, mestizos and mestizas were deemed superior because they got better jobs, married richer partners, landed acting and performance parts...etc.  Hence, upgrading via the shortest possible route, especially if you're 'native', often entailing scheming and pettiness, persisted.

National independence didn't bring about much change to their mentality and consciousness either.  The old ways were transposed instead to a microcosm - the family and district government.  Follow what your elders and politicians say but not what they do. Show respect notwithstandng because you are helpless and unworthy, more so if you're dark/'native'.  Don't try to act smart and if you're pretty, then you'd have to be extra careful else be branded a slut.  If you're already a slut, then go all out and see how far it gets you. If you're not really intelligent, then show some fancy moves, make more out of something than necessary( redtape, bureaucracy, lengthy steps and all manner of 'bells & whistles' ) or delay with 'clever words'.......anything and everything as long as you can maintain the status quo without really doing any real work or putting in any meaningful effort.  To survive or while awaiting breakout from such an environment and conditions, you're forced to ........you guessed it.......scheme.  It never occurs to them that the very environment and conditions they want to escape from were brought about and perpetuated by themselves.

The main beneficial aspect from all of this emotional melee is that the average Pinoy becomes very proficient in the fields of entertainment and the arts.

So coincidental! I'm a mix of 4 nationalities too, although I'm more often asked if I'm Japanese or Korean (but I've no Korean blood at all).

As an artist, it would be a form of expression and also to gain popularity with emphasis on the latter. To show it in photosets (nude or seminude) is just normal in Philippine showbusiness . To be successful in Philippine showbiz as an actor , the usual route would be to start in sexy films, independent films or anything artsy that would entail an actor to have butt exposure or full frontal. Why these kind of films? They tackle topics which are controversial and taboo in Philippine society. As we all know anything which is forbidden will always be sought out and then it becomes a break-out film . The Filipino society easily forgives and forgets (which for me, has been a bane for my sinking country- thats another topic). So once these actors became stars, they can now change their image and make it wholesome as a Ducth Lady ad again and the people will easily forget those nude or seminudes exposures

Check out this name: Coco Martin. He was an indie star before but now his image has gone wholesome .

Hi Guest,

She won another award again for Thy Womb at the 2013 Asian Film Awards in Hong Kong. I got a news clip from The Times Colonist .

Nora is the lady in yellow and Eddie also won the People's Choice Award for Best Actor.

HONG KONG - Chinese melodrama "Mystery" and veteran Filipino performers Nora Aunor and Eddie Garcia were honoured with the top prizes at the Asian Film Awards.

Aunor, one of the most popular Filipino stars of the 1970s and '80s, won best actress honours for her comeback film, "Thy Womb," playing a midwife struggling with her own infertility in a picturesque, impoverished Muslim community in the southern Philippines. It was directed by the award-winning filmmaker Brillante Mendoza but performed poorly in Philippine cinemas.

Backstage, Aunor thanked the AFA and her fans back home, while countryman and best-actor honoree Garcia said he was "elated and honoured" for his win. The 87-year-old actor also took home the people's choice award for favourite actor. Garcia dazzled viewers playing an aging gay man coping with loneliness and missed opportunities in "Bwakaw," or "Voracious," a drama that tested sensibilities about sexuality in the conservative Catholic country.

Yvonn, Patisoy is correct, she has come out of her closet. She is lesbian. To be frank, she is NOT the most successful , Leah Salonga is.

Charice had her chance but I guess she doesn't like the image her managers want her to be, an Asian Lolita, with long hair, demure and smouldering eyes.

Anyway, she still has the voice and this would be a test for Filipinos, would they buy her album because of her voice or they will not becuase she has come out as lesbian.

Confirmation of her identity is here: http://music.yahoo.com/blogs/stop-the-presses/glee-star-charice-comes-closet-debuts-drastic-makeover-002805481.html

hhhhhhhhhhpc0.jpg                  jr-valentin.jpg?w=426

JR Valentin had this break-out film, The Blossoming of Maximo Oliveros. He is not in showbiz anymore because he went back to the US to study in New Jersey.

This film was a hit in the Philippines and also the festival circuits in the world. The first award it got was not even in the Philippines but in Singapore, it was Best Picture at the Asian Festival of First Films 2005. So thanks Singapore!

Then it went to Canada, where you are now PaterT, both in Toronto and Montreal , then in Spain and at the Berlin Film Festival in Germany where it also earned Best Film or Best Picture.

So I think you've seen this film since you already know JR Valentin.

Anyone who doesn't want the sight of slums and dirt, do not watch this film :P

Hi Guest, actually Mario is not Pinoy, he is Thai. :)

He became popular in Philippines because of the movie , Love of Siam. To date , because of that popularity he was offered to have a movie with a Philippine production house and he has done it. Plus of course, he is one of the international endorsers of a Philippine clothing brand - Penshoppe along with One DIrection and Zac Efron. He got his first acting award at the 10th Cinemanila International Film Festival as Best Actor for Love of Siam.

Thanks for your post, he is cute really
