Guest Guest
Hi. The haze cleared for today is due to slight change in wind direction. The NEA said that the haze will return tomorrow and expects a 24-hour PSI to be around 201-300 within the VERY UNHEALTHY range. Don't keep your masks yet! Let's all pray to the Wind God. Guest Guest
What's worse is that N95 masks r sold out everywhere !The Guardian pharmacy at my house there can still put a notice which reads " no face marks on Saturday & Sunday "My goodness... In such hazardous situation that is affecting nationwide there is no sense of emergency to quickly bring in stocks for replenishment.I wonder if all of us can handle a real war situation...I still can't get even one N95 mask after 4 days where PSI has been hitting hazardous zone. So I think we won't even hve a chance of handling a real war.....we'll all be dead b4 the war start.

Just wan to be able to buy from a convenient pharmacy. The unity pharmacy started selling partially 2day but the queue is so damn long. I was told tat in the morning each person was limited to buying 10 pcs only and by afternoon each can only buy 4 pcs as the stock was running low so fast. When I saw how long the queue was I gave up bcos for sure there'll b no mask left when my turn comes. Anyway i'm just one of many many ppl stuck here who are very frustrated bcos we were told by govt 4 days ago not to worry abt N95 masks as they hve 9 millions in stock!! I just hope the haze end soon with heavy downpours and ppl don't need those masks anymore and the masks will become a laughing stock. And go to hell wif the 9 million laughing stock. Guest Guest
I have access to the N95 mask but did not bother to buy. I would rather stay in house as much as possible Make sure the air purifier (btw, are the also out of stock, too/)is on with proper ventilation of clean air in my space. Have good quality & ample sleep. Relax my mind & muscle (heard my friend having headache & muscle ache) Eat healthy food(raw garlic, onions, lime juice, yoghurt, red pepper) to boost immunity. Don't get too agitated & let the haze situation control your moods. Make the best of this current situation. Call your friends or ex-bfs(hehe) to find out how they coping. Under wat circumstances should one who is healthy have the mask ready for use or should everyone keep some in case the PSI hit 500? Wif PSI above hazardous level for almost 2 days, wat definitive health impacts are there without wearing these masks? There are so many unanswered questions regarding the specific use of the N95 masks in the current haze situation. Whether one has the N95 or not doesn't seems to follow any scientific reasons. Those of us who lived through the 1997-1998 haze didn't even heard of N95 then. But then the highest PSI was 226. It was during the SARS 2003 that we started to know of N95. It was mostly used by medical staff in hospitals then. So, if not for SARS, today ppl won't even know tat they should go round looking the illusive N95. Guest Guest
im just curious, how often should we change our N95 masks if say, we wear it moderately everyday? Many ppl queuing to buy N95 also like u and me still don't know when to change. I tried google...but guidelines are pretty vague in particular when using N95 in this haze situation. Another very important aspect of wearing N95 in contrast to wearing the common medical mask is facial fit. Because we are wearing the N95 to keep out the haze when breathing, a less than perfect fit means the haze still get pass the gaps between the edges of the mask and the face resulting in the PM2.5 travelling to the lungs. This came after remarks from an Indonesian minister saying that Singapore's reaction to the haze was childish.Foreign Minister K. Shanmugam said Singapore had offered assistance at all levels, from aircraft to manpower, to Indonesia to combat the haze. But unlike in 2005 when the Indonesians accepted assistance from Singapore, the current offer has yet to be taken up.Mr Natalegawa insisted the Indonesian government would do everything it could to tackle the problem, reports The Jakarta Post/Asia News Network.“The Singaporean government must be aware that we have done all we can to tackle this haze problem. Indonesia has been dealing with this for years and improvements have been made,” Mr Natalegawa said.Mr Natalegawa added that both governments had worked together to tackle the problem, sharing information regarding the latest situation on the ground. For example, he said, Singapore’s environment minister had been sent here to discuss the best possible solutions with his Indonesian counterpart.Current visibility in Singapore is very limited and air pollution has breached ‘hazardous’ levels.Similar conditions are also being seen in Indonesian cities like Pekanbaru in Riau and Jambi. The haze is coming from fires in many locations in Sumatra and West Kalimantan. Guest N95 not for children
Passed NTUC Unity Pharmacy 9+pm. There was a queue about 20 long for N95 mask.I was told there was a very long queue in the afternoon. Each N95 mask selling for $2.50. Sizes are adult and children.R u sure they are selling children N95 masks?I read the following from the Govt Haze Emergency 101 website: http://www.e101.gov.sg/haze/mask.htm '3. What about children? Children's N95 masks are not available.N95 masks are not designed for use on children or people with facial hair (e.g. beards), because it is difficult to achieve a proper fit, since these masks are designed to seal to the wearer’s face. Children should therefore minimize outdoor activity at PSI levels above 100, and avoid all outdoor activity if 24-hour PSI levels reach higher than 300.' I'm quite confused now. Should or should not children wear N95 masks? Parents buying N95 masks for their children might end up doing more harm than good.
SuperSentai
For children, the elderly and pregnant, the best advise for them is to stay indoors with closed doors and windows, because when worn properly, it is actually a bit difficult to breathe through the n95 mask; air flow through the mask is actually reduced compared to normal breathing without the mask. 皆々様には、御機嫌麗しゅう、恐悦至極に存じ奉ります。

Guest nonsense 24hr psi
NUS PHD student: referring to 24hr PSI is Non sense & Dangerous !This is dangerous nonsense. Does one whose house is burning around him make a decision whether to leave the premises based on 24-hour average temperature? Just as that person would be burned to death in minutes if he decided to stay in a burning building, similarly, serious lung damage could be sustained by one breathing in high PSI air for short durations like 15 minutes.Has the relatively recent smoke grenade fatality involving a young NSF not taught us that fine particulate matter in air can be harmful in short intense exposure? Or has the poor young man been forgotten? Granted, that tragic case is not identical, but there are important similarities.(The PAP Government should be reminded of the basic fact that if a 3-hour average PSI reading is, for instance, 300, then there must have been 10/20-minute average PSI readings in the relevant 3-hour time span above 300. Possibly significantly above 300.)It is certainly true that the health impacts of air pollutants are determined both by the concentration and also the duration of exposure. But what the PAP Government is saying is truly incredible, and incredible claims have to be backed up by evidence. If the government can put forth credible evidence that exposures of 10 to 20 minutes, common for simple necessary actions like walking to the bus stop and waiting for the bus, to PSI levels of over 200 has negligible ill-effects. We should take note and relax a little. But in the absence of such credible evidence, it is only safe and reasonable to assume that such exposure should be actively avoided because such exposures may cause complications; Complications that may be much more severe in some than others. The PAP Government should not misinform Singaporeans about the haze threat. It is dangerous and does Singaporeans a huge disservice.Jeremy Chen

I prefer to just use my hanky to cover while I m out or if it get worst, dampen it with water. Carry a bottle/tissue with you when out to replenish or moisten your itchy eyes. In times like this, dun panic. Just live each day as you so & make adjustments & changes to your routine, habit & diet if need be. Those who need to go out for makan during lunch time could consider bringing healthy cooked food from home to eat in the office. Have a Anti-haze potluck in the office, each bring healthy food/fruit/drinks to share, like green bean soup, salad, non-fried food, etc. Minimise your physical contact with the haze. Start a car pool so that colleagues would not be out in the haze waiting for public transport. If you are the driver, offer to send them home.
