Guest Winzyboy
I don't think all civil servants are useless. Civil servants includes the SCDF and the SPF which in my opinion, are risking their lives to ensure that your life and properties are safe. Instead of accusing the civil servants as useless, ask yourself what makes you more useful than them. Most likely you are not. They also have families to feed so they deserve every single cent of the bonus that they may receive whether or not you like it.

Guest Guest
Why is there so much envy towards the civil servants when it's the private sector who get all the big fat bonuses? Do the private sector people deserve their fat bonuses?

Guest Raiden Alpha
Why must people fight over this bonus issue in the first place? People in civil sectors will get their year end bonus while people in private sectors most likely will get theirs after lunar new year and for some it can be up to 3 months total...There is really no need to cross into each other boundary in the first place. Nobody work overtime, all ready to go home byt packing and putting on make-up as early as 4pm. Very hard working indeed.Stat boards counter emptied 5pm. Clear backlog/paperwork till 6pm, sometimes till late. Peak periods(last 3days & 1st 3days of the mth or as & when crowd comes in) 30 mins lunch. Counter open full day even on eve of main PH while most private sector are closed/half day. Subject to verbal abuse and get shouted at. When there is little crowd at counter, we multi-task & clear never ending backend paperwork. So which part of our job is not hard work? GachiMuchi
1.1 months' bonus for civil servants (ST 22/11/2013)By GOH CHIN LIAN chinlian@sph.com.sgCIVIL servants will get a year-end bonus of 1.1 months, with the minimum set at $1,600 to benefit lower-wage officers.About 1,300 civil servants earning below $1,460 a month will get proportionally more with this minimum annual variable component (AVC), the Public Service Division (PSD) said yesterday. For example, someone earning $1,200 will get $280 more than the $1,320 he would have got based on 1.1 months of his salary."This signals the Government's continued commitment to help lower-wage workers," the PSD said in a statement. This is the second year it has set a minimum sum for the AVC. Last year, it was $1,000.The civil service year-end bonus is closely watched as it is a guide for the private sector. The bonus rides on an official forecast of Singapore's economy growing 3.5 per cent to 4 per cent this year, buoyed by a slight pickup in the global economy and domestically oriented sectors, such as construction, the PSD said. The 80,000 civil servants got a mid-year bonus of 0.4 month. Together with the 1.1 months' AVC and a traditional 13th month bonus due in December, their total bonus this year is 2.5 months. This is higher than last year's bonus of two months.Unionists like the Amalgamated Union of Public Employees' general secretary Ma Wei Cheng praised the PSD for taking into account their views.National Trades Union Congress assistant secretary-general Cham Hui Fong pointed to its "extensive deliberations" with the PSD, including its call to help lower-wage officers.Amalgamated Union of Public Daily Rated Workers general secretary G. Muthukumarasmy said the minimum payout will, amid inflation and higher living costs, go a long way in helping its low-wage members.Mechanical fitter Raman Kathawarayan, 41, will get over $150 more than if there was no minimum payout.Said the father of two boys aged 12 and seven: "I'll use it to buy school items for my children for the new year."Some larger companies may give more than the civil service but most would follow it, managing consultant Peter Lee of Remuneration Data Specialists noted. He expects the private sector to pay a total variable bonus of one to 3.5 months. With the 13th month payment, the total will be two to 4.5 months. To earn more, low-wage workers should get training, going by figures of the Ministry of Trade and Industry. Survey results of 2007 to 2009 released yesterday show that their wages rose 3.1 per cent on average with training, on top of yearly increments. Guest Passer by
  I see stat boards emptied by 5pm sharp. Nobody work overtime, all ready to go home byt packing and putting on make-up as early as 4pm. Very hard working indeed. I cannot give too much details, but the fact is that the Agency that I work in, the counter staff are vendors and I am at my computer sometime at 9pm clearing documents from MOP etc etc while I start work at 8am. I have even times when I have to go back office to place maintenance message for the public at midnight so public can know that the system is unavailable instead of wasting time trying. Recent Cyber attack also means that we have to be in office at times of the day in weekend for meeting to check status of the defence as we need to do our best to ensure that internet service used by public can be in tip top condition while controlling budget so taxpayer money are well spent. (PS, I am on the IT side.) I believe the counter staff might be a lower division officer or someone who deals with difficult work. I seem high turnover rates for another department counter staff as angry MOP will scold them like mad when the demands cannot be met due to policy issue and the newly join staff can go behind closed door crying with the veteran consoling. So please don't come to conclusion, thank you.
Guest Guest
Just wondering ... if you get a pay rise in the middle of the year, is the year-end bonus calculated based on the old pay or new higher pay? For instance, you earn $2000 from jan-may, then get pay rise and earn $3000 from may to Dec. How's the 1.1 month bonus calculated? Thanks for enlightening me.
