Mid-Year Annual Variable Component of 0.5-month for all civil servants

In addition:

Division IV officers to receive a wage increase of $70 in monthly salary, and
Division III officers to receive a wage increase of $30 in monthly salary, over and above their annual increment in 2014.

The Singapore economy grew by 4.9% on a year-on-year basis in the first quarter of 2014, unchanged from the growth recorded in the preceding quarter. Global economic growth is expected to improve in 2014, supported by continued recovery in the US and the Eurozone.

In Asia, while the ASEAN economies are likely to remain resilient, China’s growth is expected to moderate slightly in 2014. Amidst this global backdrop, the Ministry of Trade and Industry forecasts GDP growth of 2% to 4% for 2014. Nevertheless, downside risks remain, such as monetary conditions in the US tightening faster than expected. The overall unemployment rate in Singapore remained low at 2.1% in March 2014.

Against this backdrop, the Government has decided to pay a mid-year Annual Variable Component (AVC) of 0.5-month.

The Government also supports the National Wages Council’s (NWC) recommendation to grant a built-in wage increase to raise the wages of low-wage workers. The Government will give a built-in wage increase to Division IV and III civil servants. This will be in addition to their annual increment in 2014.

Division IV civil servants will receive a built-in wage increase of $70 in their monthly salaries. This will benefit around 3,500 Division IV civil servants. Division III civil servants will receive a built-in wage increase of $30 in their monthly salaries. This will benefit around 5,500 Division III civil servants.

In all, the Civil Service’s NWC adjustments will benefit about 9,000 Division IV and III civil servants. This signals the Government’s continued commitment to help raise the salaries of lower-wage civil servants, in line with productivity growth and private sector salary benchmarks.

The mid-year payments were decided in consultation with the public sector unions. The Government will decide on the year-end AVC payment for civil servants after taking into consideration Singapore’s economic performance in the second half of 2014.

Our greatest glory is not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall..

Go join the civil service then and you will get the bonus without having to do much work :)

Tell me, what do the civil servants do that is so much work?

I see some senior civil servants buying groceries in the late afternoon (before 6pm), running their errands during office hours, drinking tea all the time. O come on.

I don't think anywhere in his reply that says civil servants have loads on their dish.

He was saying that civil servants get bonuses without doing much work and he was inviting you to join the civil service.

At least this is what I interpreted.

Since Guest has so much work to do and didn't get his bonuses, he should join the civil service so that he can work lesser as he claimed all civil service workers do not do much and yet get his bonuses ✌️

Press Release

Date: 25 November 2014

Civil Service Year-End Payment

Civil servants to get year-end AVC of 0.8 month with lower-wage officers getting at least $1,200

The Ministry of Trade and Industry has forecast that GDP growth will come in at around 3.0% for the full year. This represents a narrowing of the previous GDP forecast of 2.5% to 3.5% announced in August. Growth for the year is expected to be supported primarily by externally-oriented sectors such as manufacturing, wholesale trade and finance & insurance services, while domestically-oriented sectors such as business services are expected to remain resilient. The job market remained tight in the third quarter of 2014, as unemployment stayed low and steady, with employment growth matching the previous quarter.

Against this backdrop, civil servants will be paid a year-end Annual Variable Component (AVC) of 0.8 month, with lower-wage officers getting an AVC of at least $1,200. This signals the Government’s continued commitment to help lower-wage workers.

Some 980 civil servants will benefit from the minimum AVC payment of $1,200. For example, an officer earning a monthly salary of $1,200 will get a year-end AVC of $1,200. This is $240 more than what he would get at 0.8 month of his monthly salary (which would have been $960).

The year-end AVC payment was decided in consultation with the public sector unions.

All civil servants will also get the Non-Pensionable Annual Allowance (NPAA) of 1 month, to be paid in December together with the AVC.

BTW , the mid year bonus for civil servants was 0.5 months salary so combined total bonus should be 1 month (13 month bonus ) plus (0.8 + 0.5 = 1.3) comint to a grand total of 2.3 months bonus , am I correct.

But for those making more than $15,000 a month in salary, the more you earn the more income tax you pay to the IRS. so dont be too happy early , does anyone know the happy balance of the salary ceiling , for Singaporeans to earn just high enough to not have the IRS deduct your salary so it pinches.

No one seems to discuss that for very high income earners , the higher your pay , at the end , the bonus your earn is used to pay for your annual income tax, seems like most Bwers are earning below $9000 a month,

the plight of high income earners in Singapore is at the end you see your bonus is used to pay the income tax , Sob sob.   :yuk: :yuk:
