Songkran GCircuit from 2014 - Present (compiled)

Recommended Posts

I'm sure a lot of people will be flocking to Bangkok for this massive (Gay!) event yearly!

This year would be my first time joining this mammoth celebration and those who have gone, please share your insights!

Like to ask a couple of questions hope you can advise.

Will be there from 12 - 19 April 2014. Flying Cathay Pacific.

Where is a good hotel to stay that is close to the action, but not so close that you go down from your hotel and get "splashed"? Any recommendations?

Is the Gcircuit party REALLY worth going? I saw the ticket online and it is quite expensive.

Lastly, other than the fact you will keep getting wet and enjoy the atmosphere, is there something else to do since most of the shops will be closed or selling water guns lol.

Would be nice too if those who are going can contribute, we could even meet up and go together! :)

Sorry for hijacking the thread, but I'd also like to know if the water splashing will really end by 15 Apr? I know Songkran is 13-15 Apr, and the water splashing might start on 12 Apr

I'm actually not looking forward to the water, but contemplating if I should go to Bangkok over the Good Friday long weekend (18-20 Apr). It'd be great if the spalshing stops on 15 Apr :)

Mhhh if you don't want to get splashed, you'll have to stay away from Silom, Surawong and all the main streets... But believe me, it's going to be difficult not to get splashed, unless you jump into a taxi immediately when you get out of the hotel :)

But it's part of the fun, I would recommend some relax clothes, not expensive nice ones cuz it will be "ruined".

GCircuit: depends on what kind of party guy you are... these are super circuit parties.... 80% of the guys there end up taking off their shirts showing off their hard worked bodies, most are high on some substances.... of course there are also the other guys but it's a minority. It's maybe a nice thing to go experience once but the tickets are so damn expensive that I will not repeat the experience this year.

Shops will not be closed during that period. All the main markets are open, the malls are all open of course. They just protect themselves against the water splashing if they are near those areas.

I'm going to BKK but over the Good Friday weekend instead (water splashing isn't my thing, and I can't really plan my leaves more than 2 months in advance so a long weekend is the best).

I'm hoping the water splashing really stops on the 15th though.

There are numerous types of watergun.  Prices range from 80 baht to even 800 baht, depending on the design, the pump and water storage capacity. Of course, on the second day onwards, street vendors begin to give discount.

If you obey all the rules, you miss all the fun.

Bought one only as well. Last year I went to the Boys one, quite nice, good music and crowd and the location was so much better.... it was at the new Sofitel So. This year will be in a "crappier" hotel.... I'm having second thoughts haha.

Reason why I only went to one is because the hotel I was staying at was throwing its own pool party (not gay one but I think 70% were gay :P ).

It my first Songkran trip!  :)

I have searched through the internet for list of accommodation in Bangkok, it is either full-house or expensive. At that time, very helpless, wandering a place to stay.

Finally, I found a place! An ulu, quiet and simple guesthouse. Staying there for 4 days 3 nights, and I paid 1000THB (S$38). See below pictures. Worth it? I do not know.

Place looks clean and safe so yeah, probably worth it especially around Songkran time - would have been difficult getting the usual hotels. Thanks for posting. If you have more pics, please post as it is not often that people post pics of places that are outside the Sathorn/Silom and Sukhimvit areas. How did you get find the guesthouse, how did you get from there to the CBD? Was transportation difficult, especially after dark?

I changed about 12900THB at Beach Road. Believe me or not, for the 4 days 3 nights in Thailand, I spent less than S$116 (approximate 3000THB) in total. In addition, I carried some hard cash <- click just in case I need it. Actually, I really have no idea how much I am going to spend and I do not mind spending money on friends.

At first, I thought I am able to meet some decent kakis <-click but *sign* disappointment. :(

Well, everyone spend differently...BKK is either cheap or expensive for some...

I blew B30,000 for a session of night club that my straight army mate brought me to, excluding liquor.

If you wanna meet people there, you gotta link up early, I did meet my kakis there after some coordination.

But if you had used the meat apps, you be spoiled for choice.

But why do you have to bring more than S$14,000 to BKK, are you intending to buy an apartment there ?

Nice place.  Care to share its address/booking place?  Looks good to me. I don't mind staying in a place like this, looks clean and airy.

Making Merit

Making merit is an essential part of Songkran, and visiting nine sacred temples during Songkran considered one of the ultimate accumulators. Try temples in the Rattanokosin area like Wat Pho, Wat Phra Kaeo, Wat Suthat Thepphawararam, Wat Chana Songkhram, Wat Boworn, Wat Benchamabophit, Wat Rakhang Khositaram, Wat Arun and Wat Kanlaya.

Do’s

  • Do give alms and make merit (or just witness the rituals if you are not a Buddhist)
  • Do use waterproof bags to protect your valuables
  • Do watch your belongings
  • Do use public transportation if you are heading to one of Songkran ‘hotspots’, as traffic will be paralysed
  • Do try wishing the locals a happy new year in Thai – “Sawasdee Pee Mai!”
  • Do smile and have fun

Don’ts

  • Do not douse monks, babies or the elderly
  • Do not drive when you have been drinking
  • Do not throw water with ice or dirty water
  • Do not throw water at motorcyclists, to prevent road accidents
