About The Journey   (A Trilogy)

The Journey is a story about Singapore told through the lives of different generations of Singaporeans through the years, over the country’s almost one century of history.  The story is told in three parts, spread across three years wrapping at the end of 2015 (year of the Nation’s 50th birthday):

Part 1 of Trilogy: A Voyage (31 episodes)

About the human spirit in Singaporeans of the past, specifically in the 1920s through the 1930s.  At a time when many people’s main aims in life were survival, a group of youngsters travelled the seas to come to Singapore’s shores in search of a better life for themselves and their loved ones.  Whether intentional of otherwise, they will ultimately settle down in this country known as Singapore, sink their roots and lay the foundation for their descendants.

The serial offers glimpses of what it was like in Singapore circa the 1920s.  Through the stories of three young men, each of a different background and with different forms of motivation, Voyage aims at inspiring viewers with the characters’ hunger for survival and grit in overcoming adversities without lamentation.  All these through the melodrama that unfolds.

Part 2 of Trilogy: Tumultuous Times (30 episodes)

World War II was a period of turmoil to many Singaporeans.  Innocent were killed and times were hard during the Japanese Occupation.  Through the adversity, the survival instinct only became stronger.

When the colonialists returned, stirrings of dissent became increasingly apparent.  The people of Malaya wanted self-governance but in this period of uncertainty, there were vastly different ideals and convictions how independence can be achieved.  This led to chaos and it was through much hardship that independence was achieved.

The Journey: Tumultuous Times is the story of 5 young people unraveled over a period of 20 tumultuous years in Singapore’s history as the country strove towards and finally gained independence.

Part 3 of Trilogy: Our Homeland (30 episodes)

Post-independence, the country continued to grapple with teething problems in the initial stages, as policies were introduced.  Through difficult times, Singapore faced the challenges and moved on.

These are experienced through the characters in the story, who grew with the Nation.

Did anyone notice about that mine worker, zhu fangpi?

Despite him trying very hard to act as a chuff, his sisterness is still very obvious.

What I really dont understand is the fact the Mediacrap chose to "encore" telecast Little Nyonya now?

Isnt it a chance to draw the parallels?  我hat is such much similarity .. from the costumes to the characters.. Joanne Peh's make up looked the same!

Worst of all, they used "Blue Screen"... so obvious...

Isnt it a BIG Budget?

Actors:

Pierre Png has improved 加油。。2014 应该到你发!

Li NanXing is just an older version of 715's role ... damn wooden..木头人

Not to mention the sluggish Terence Cao.. why is he speaking like a sub-normal person..反映迟钝

老黄-虚有其表。。。缺乏演技, 念台词时非常生硬。

Actresses:

Jeanette Aw..ouch...no more expletives left 还能有意见吗?

Carole Lin- she is way too young to be the mother in the show.. where are Xiang Yun/Lin Mei Jiao? 压不住场, 气派去哪儿?

Priscilla Chan - 应该是大家闺秀。。。为什么演得像泼妇骂街。。。.

Tong (MngZhu).../Joanne Peh ....太假了。。。

Been chasing this drama since day one. To be frank, during the first episode, i already felt like stopping to chase after seeing Lnx and terence acting. Somehow felt that their acting did not improve but dropped. Lee trying hard to act as a hero, trying hard to talk like oldern days chinaman, but he just cant bring out that character to live. As for terence, just like any of his drama, the way he talk alwards so stiff. Decided to continue this dram is due to other artists. Joanne & Elvin have improve abit. But Joanne much better then Elvin. Only thing cant stand Elvin is whenever he try to tease his sister, the expression and tone he use somehow look weird. My idol Jeanette still the same... ... No changes leh... Nothing special... ... Can see that Desmond trying hard to make good his acting, but still room for improvment. Priscilla a bit overboard, tong binyu got nice voice, very much suit her character whom is from china, but acting... ... Maybe due to the character restrain, she cant go all out. The taiwan guy who act as zhang tian ying, also very stiff. Lin xiao pei did quite well, thou she been out of the screen for some time, she still maintain yet improved her acting. One more to go, The best, i felt, is Pierre Png. Really like his character ! And he did well. Understand that he cant speak well in mandarin, but he spoke much much better compared to Lnx and terence cao. And his acting is darn impressive. Hope this character could fetch him an award, to encourage him to do more and much good in his future drama. Before the actual airing of this drama, glad to know that he is in this show, and he is the one who pushes me chase this drama till now.

Agree that Pierre Png's performance is the best in this drama. Hope he gets an award this year.

LNX is stiff. He performs better in modern dramas.

The worst is Terence Cao. Acting like a robot.

I think the director(s) of this drama seems to have the mistaken impression that people in the olden days all talked really slowly and stiffly.

Guest Bored with TV

I don't watch Television anymore. So I won't know who is called what, nor their real name behind the screen. Frankly, I hate watching local TV drama, they will never pack a punch. Their so-called "huge" budgets are part of gimmicks to draw viewerships. Those actors or actress acted too "straight" and spoke too "fluently" for my likings. It smacks the word "fake" in my eyes.  If mediacorp needs to draw lesson to improve itself, they don't have to look further than Ilo Ilo - low budget film.
