Bangkok ( Thailand ) - Massage / Sauna Compiled)

This is very typical story.  A lady friend together with her friends took a taxi from the airport.  All was well .. the usual arrangement where passengers were to pay for surcharge and toll and the fare would be based on the meter.

Half way on the highway, driver said the meter kaput.  My friend insisted that they were to be sent back to the airport!  Somehow, with her gungho attitude, the meter worked again!  LOL.

Another story .. my nephew and his friends (in their early 20s) took a taxi.  Same old trick, half way driver insisted that meter kaput.  All these timid youngster didn't know how to react and had to pay 1,000 baht just to reach their hotel at Sathorn area.

Moral of the story, be a smart traveler.  Always insist that you are a regular to BKK, even if you have to lie about it.  Having shared it, there are many more honest drivers, so not to worry too much.

Haha. Lessons in life. I have been scammed before, not in BKK but elsewhere. Like they say once bitten, twice shy. No more chance. :-)

You just need to know that the express service only runs twice per hour. So make sure you ask the guys near the ticket machines to know when the next express train leaves. No point waiting half an hour to, in the end, lose time...

Taxi from airport including tolls up to Silom is roughly 250-300 baht max.

Back from Silom to airport is 250 including tolls.

thanks for the info, lengzai

luckily the website for airport express provides timing info, from there i can plan ahead and luckily the timing just suits my arrival and departure timing.

Just FYI, Scoot is having huge sales right now.... $3 per way, Fly, to any destinations out of Singapore. Bangkok still has some fares at $3+$3 + taxes. Total is around $170 for Fly only.

Forget about weekends though. Fly out on Wednesday for example, and back on Monday.

Booked one way out from SG to BBK in March 2014...

going to see what other airline has great fare for the journey back....

Check out Airasia, cost about $80+ for a Monday/Tuesday trip back

In this trip to Bangkok I stayed at Babylon for ten days in a barrack room.  I find that there is no better place to say.   Inexpensive and fun to be there. Free Internet, free breakfast, free entry to the sauna.   The whole trip was convenient.  From the airport I took the train  (the local line, not the express) to Makkasan station, from there walked the covered walkway to the MRT station Phetchaburi and exited the MRT at Lumphini station.  The walk from there to Babylon (maybe one kilometer?) wasn't bad.  I took the same route on the way back to the airport.  No nasty taxi, no hassle.

After a few days I found that the walk from Babylon exiting north-east to the MRT is not bad, the same as the walk exiting south-west to Sathon road and then walking the overpass over Sathon to reach Silom.  In a way, I like the location of Babylon in a more quiet neighborhood than Silom.

It is advantageous to get free pass to the sauna to use the gym and the restaurant, and of course...  the sauna.  But even more fun was to walk to the (relatively) nearby Sauna Mania on their "naked nights" at 7PM on Thursday and Sunday.  I find these events as good as Cruise Sauna in SG.   And, for even more variety,  a walk to the MRT, to Sukhumvit station, change to BTS Asok station, to Ari station, and a short walk to Chakran sauna to try their nude nights at 7PM,  and, why not?  some evening continuing on the BTS to Saphan Khwai station and walk to the nearby 39 Underground sauna to have fun at their events.   Taxis?  I saw hundreds of them passing by...

In case you wonder, I did other things than going to saunas. I liked the shopping at the Chatuchak weekend market, in easy reach via the MRT.  I walked along Sukhumvit  and visited the Paragon shopping mall, the "21 terminal mall".  Saw there many nice expensive clothes, then bought some very similar at half the price at Chatuchak.

For food beyond the good free breakfast, when I didn't eat at one of the two restaurants at Babylon sauna  I walked to the nearby "Vincent's restaurant & the 7 rooms", which offers good food at good price.

All in all, a nice vacation that I plan to repeat soon.

Thanks for a good recommendation. You're the ultimate guide to Bangkok.

You not only recommend the 'sleaze' but also the normal tourists' guide.

Yours is a very good post.

So how much is the ten days stay over there?

Huh? That considered inexpensive?

Yes, that is inexpensive.  In comparison, for ten days in Singapore you spend about twice as much.  You cannot get any decent place to stay on the island for less than U$S 100 a night.  And in Bangkok I paid half of that.  Same with other expenses like food, entertaining.

Gateway just next to Ekkamai BTS is supposed to be a Japanese Mall.....   it is just a few stops away from Asoke BTS where Terminal 21 is.....

I cannot remember is it 1st or 2nd floor of the mall... all outlets sell Japanese food even fusion sort of japanese food as well as authentic japanese.... I like to go to this one that they have everything for 88bhat per plate and the serving is very generous.

Shopping at Gateway is a NO NO though nothing to shop there but for japanese food... I would say yes.... please go there.... and it is handicapp friendly too.... at the recept counter u can borrow a wheelchair as well as strollers..... (if that helps)

Has been a wonderful trip and here's some updates + seeking to connect with some guys i saw:

Massage:

Did not go for any hanky panky massage.Went to Thai Thai Massage juz opposite Silom Complex and near BTS Sala Daeng.

Massage was great. I opt for male masseurs for each day i went.

Cost for massage  - foot or thai - costs 250 bht per hour. you can get a set a package of 2 hours of 450 bht.

Will definitely recommend this besides Healthland to anyone who like clean decent massage.

Sauna:

Went to Sauna Mania. Its a long walk from soi convent but managed to find my way there.

Decent crowd and mainly local thais.

entry is 180 bht and the steamroom / sauna is good. i went on a sunday which is naked theme. dark room is like a long maze.

i did not realized many of the thais are actually fit. you can feel the pecs on their abs. HOT!

Gogo Bar:

Went to Dream Boys. As usual the show was great. Many taiwanese there and many boys were "off" by farangs and the taiwanese. Cost: 380 bht.

Besides the famous Dream Boys, I went to Classic Boy again (the last I went was in May). The show is pretty much the same. Same boys and performers. Cost: 300 bht but ended up paying 400 bht with the additional 100 bht as tips for the boys / papa sans.

Went to Boys, which is located beside Fresh Boys / opposite Dream Boys. Show was draggy but they have the shower boy segment. Cost: 300 bht.

Missed Connections:

Guy #1 - you were on the same flight both going and return. TZ302 on Friday to BKK and TZ301 on Monday back to Singapore. You were wearing a maroon A&F tee shirt with your backpack. Guess you were like me travelling there alone.

Saw you at the immigration queue in BKK with your maroon A&F tee and berms.

After touching down in Singapore, saw you went to Toast Box for a dinner. Your seat no on the flight back is 33G/34G.

Hope you are seeing this message and perhaps we can travel together to BKK next time :)

Guy #2 - you were at Dream Boys on Friday and was wearing white tee that day. On the flight TZ301 on Monday back to Singapore, you were wearing blue tee with the words "harvey".

Guess you are a party goer as i saw you mingling around at Dream Boys with your friends. wished i could join you there.

if you are here, hope we can travel to BKK sometime together :)
