Am selecting between Ideal Pratunam, Boutique Hotel & Grand Diamond ):

After your trip please share your experience. I dont normally choose this area as I think it is not near enough to the mrt. I might be wrong and it will be good to hear about some other area with good accomodation. Thanks.

yes these areas are not near to mtr. Only near to platinum mall and pratunam market. Staying in siam is still the most ideal, but ex

Where to watch those live gay fucking shows? How much will it cost? Intending to bring my bf there for some exposure!

It's on Soi Cowboy, off Surawong Road, parallel to Silom. Dream Boy and all those bars there offer these kind of shows.... they are basically free to get in but with a mandatory drink... I think cheapest drink is about 300-500THB. Not sure how this change cuz once I went and it was 300 and another time it was 500... maybe weekdays vs weekends.

Don't get your expectations too high though... those shows are kinda ridiculous... more funny than arousing  ;)

And some perf are even gross... the one where they pull ribbons out of their a$$holes for example. We were glad we didn't get first row seats haha.

Yeah, I second the statement. Some of the sex is very mechanical i.e. insert 20 times, change position, insert 10 times, move and present different angle to the audience. For an artistic people, the choreography leaves very much to be desired.

Having said that, for a first timer it can be quite an eye opener, esp if the first timer has not seen any (other than onlylonely :)) erect men (other than on the net) before. :)

Where did you see me saying "hot bodies" lol.... As I said.... don't expect too much hahahaha

Jupiter might have some nicer performers but the show is sooooo boring.....

I'd rather watch some cheap dirty crap show which is funny or ridiculous than a show where they are trying too hard and doesn't make the customer hard (at least not me lol).

Dreamboy show is really quite funny. Those tranny can fuck lol. As for the sex show, its more of acrobatic circus sex which is really not erotic. But still, i enjoy it a lot. Also, if you are scared of being pull on stage, don't seat too close to the stage. I was pulled up by the performer once and its kinda embarrassing. But at least they never remove my clothes or anything.

My partner told me in Nov, they change part of the comedy. A customer was literally stripped naked with his hands on his crotch on stage with the trans surrounding him.

As for Jupiter, well the shows is "classy" or "trying too hard" depending on individual take. I  find it boring after seeing it once, but i do have friends going for it year after year as a "must visit"

Tawan shows can be erotic or terribly wrong when the performer is off season. But i do find the SM bondage show most erotic among the gogoshows..except for the performer not really my type.

It's a shutdown of the government buildings, not a shut down of the entire city.... you should be fine.

Maybe a day or two before, check Suvarnabhumi's website to make sure the airport is not affected, but that's about all I would worry about.

Maybe also check the airline's announcement regarding Bangkok. Cathay Pacific has a page about it regarding waiving change fees for tickets booked before December 2013 for flights..... now.

If really, you can also check the travel advisory page of your home government. They all have a page like that.

I am also deciding whether to cancel my trip during CNY. I asked a protestor friend and he said their protests are largely peaceful. Its the media who want to potray them in a bad light to exert pressure by scaring tourists away.

He said it will be no different from the Dec situation. Having said that, with a large number of protesters, it can easily become chaotic even if unintended. So i am waiting till 15 Jan to decide whether i will go BKK month end.

Am here (: everything seems normal. Media release, tourist won't be affected, special routes will ensure they get back to the airport.

Am back at the hotel, wondering what to do now.. Anyone got any good tips on what to do?

So which hotel did you choose of the 3 you said you were looking at? What is the hotel like? What are the surrounds (makan, shopping, nite markets, massage places, pubs) like?  Thanks for info.

Hi U still there? Any change in situation? Scheduled to fly there on mon but still undecided.... the preys reports been pretty depressing, and all these talks about mon being some kind of showdown in bkk....imagine landing there on mon right into the heart of the protest violence...... actually, I don't mind the protest, it's like a carnival, even an 'attraction',  but if it erupts into uncontrollable violence, then.... anyone can advise, given the latest situation?

As I've mentioned earlier, I have flights to Bangkok in 2 weeks' time.

I am monitoring the situation very closely as I do FEAR for my life..

What I am doing daily is to read Ministry of Foreign Affairs website (http://www.mfa.gov.sg/content/mfa/consular_information/for_singapore_citizens/travel_notices/2014/201401/travelnotice_20140107.html)

and the Bangkok Post website (http://www.bangkokpost.com/news)

Yes the Pratunam intersection is going to be the main rally site on Mon 13 Jan 2014 onwards...

It looks like the area north of the canal (Lumpini northwards) will be filled with all sorts of protestors...

the anti-government ones, the government ones and latest, the University students ....

I have friends, planned to travel this coming week, cancelling the trip.  The intending Bangkok Shut-down, hopefully, does not involve the shutting down of Suvarnabhumi Airport.  Though it has always seemed to be a peaceful protest, one will never know the intensity from 13 January since the Red Shirts are now participating (retaliating) too.

Should you still have to travel, do eRigister yourself with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs at at This Site. Travel safe and avoid the large crowds and demonstrations.

On the Swiss Embassy website, it says that they will cause traffic disturbances in BKK from January 13th till the elections but that protesters announced that they would not affect the airports, access to the airports and air traffic. However, travelers need to expect jams and should plan their ways to and from the airports accordingly.

There is no warnings or advices against going to Thailand as of today on that site. Sorry, not available in English though.

But if you can re-schedule, and re-plan your flights and hotel, I would do it... just for peace of mind. Otherwise, I don't think it's "dangerous for your life" to go to BKK.

You can always read a page written in French (or other language) on a modern browser, which gives you the option to translate the whole page (with right-button click)

Surely it is much better to be a tourist in Bangkok these days than a merchant or business owner or student.  So sad how they are ruining their city over a political dispute in a lose-lose situation!

Here's a live update of the situation in BKK, this is around the Asok BTS Station.

---

Still looks relatively peaceful there for now...

Demonstrators look rather harmless, I would not mind them too much.  As long as they don't block the rails of the MRT or BTS, they may not hurt much.  With less street traffic due to blockage, it may even be more convenient for tourists to walk on the streets, with less pollution and congestion.

Hello, I'm back!

Since everyone concerns is on the protest - i would recommend that if you're heading there this month for vacation, i would rather you postponed it to a later date.

On 13th, everything seems really peaceful - with crowds marching along the main street causing only one lane for all the cars/taxi/motorcycles/tuktuk to cross, therefore if you want to head down to malls like Centre World/Erawan and all - you have to walk if not a BTS station near your hotel is definitely needed.

I've spoke to some locals - they don't expect any violence throughout this protest however they warned that the whole shutdown will evolved gradually and in time to come, will be affecting tourist attractions and worst, airports.

So if you're planning to head down this particular month, if possible - just delay your plans to save all the hassle.

Rhi thanks everyone who replied...i took the plunge n am now here...its actually quite exciting n electrifying with the protests here....can get souvenirs on protest too....quite surreal, as these protestors were taking bts to get to protest sites, n since some of these sites were at shopping malls, u see them taking breaks to go into the shopping malls to shop, esp at mbk, or to use,the toilets. The protest will reach climax after six when people finish work n take bts to join protest crowd....massive stages wete set up with song n skits featured to keep protestors entertained, interspersed with pklitical speeches...at some points, i though i was attending open air rock concerts! I know its wrong to say this, but this yellow shirt protest like much more fun than the red shirt one which i saw a few years back..prob because yellow shirt richer? Now tempted to go chiang mai to see how tbe red shirt do their protest. But seriously, u gotta give credit to the yellow shirt. This is a massive well organised protest. Just the logistics alone is mind boggling and everyone plays their part so well, whether its leading the singing or cheering, or responding with their myriad of weapons which include the deafening whistles, the flag, the hand shaped thingy, etc. The turnout is truly impressive n u can really feel the patriotism....puts our hong lim park protest to shame. But then, i m glad we dont have this kind of protests here, a.d that we never will. On a last note, still plenty of tourists here, but perhaps few of the large family with children kind.

By the way, i not encouraging anyone to come now. If a bomb goes off hete, i can imagine it can be quite chaotic n tension should rise to peak as election date approaches...i just dayong that at the moment, things r not as bad as what the media is portraying, though of course things can take a turn for the worst without warning. But as of now, from what i see here, the mood is more like a carnival, and the protestors appear to be really enjoying themselves!

I still would rather visit Bangkok than the winter Olympics in Russia.  You are right that it may not be wise to come with a wife and five little children.  But for a gay adult...  maybe the sex is even more wild with the excitement of the crowds outside :)

Once again, hope i not giving u impression that i encouragg people to come join the fun, i just saying its not as bad as portrayed by media, at least for now. And i avoid staying out late. The shopping malls close few hours earlier anyway. I back in hotel by ten plus or eleven. The few rare attacks so far r on politicians. Tourists r not their targets.

Bangkok political situation is changing daily. Protesters and government are both getting quite desperate  so tensions are likely to escalate. Having said that, right now the mood is still pretty much festive. My Thai friend said Sauna mania is still as crowded. The locals don't seem to be very much affected and its the media who over-hyped the  reports. I think it should still be relatively safe this period if you avoid the protests sites n read the major websites for news update. Worst case, just stay inside hotel and chill, use the facilities...go for massages nearby your hotel =) This itself is already worth the trip. Also, during this period..due to the protests, quite a few nice hotels are giving good discounts which makes it more attractive. I think i will proceed to BKK during CNY period..going for 2 weeks unless they started going crazy and do mass killing (which i seriously doubt). Thai people are really quite peaceful in general.
