Hi thanks for ur precious advise

may I noe how u wash the old vinyl records

need any detergent or anything else

thanks

Personally, I use tap water, a soft sponge / soft brush for painting and mama lemon. Some people prefer to use distilled water.

When washing, try not to touch against the label

If you want a more prefessional method, you could bring them over to a shop. The shop uses a machine to clean the records. They do charge a price for each piece cleaned.

Do you have lots of records that need a good bath?

Hoping to revive this thread and to get to know other vinyl record collectors :)

I'm just starting getting into vinyl collecting and I bought my first ever vinyl record recently! Massive Attack's 1991 debut album "Blue Lines". One of my favourite albums, I wanted a record that I can play on repeat without skipping any tracks :)

Thank you for reviving this thread @hey_jen,

I wonder if @Creampie (the TS), @vincent_ng etc are still collecting them too?

Anybody visited Repoint recently?
Thought of going one of these days...

Nice collection!  Would love to flip through and see what you got.

I think I'll get the 7" if I ever find something I like.

I've never been to Repoint! I will find a time to explore and see what I can find

Hey, do you guys have any issues or trouble keeping your precious vinyl records clean and mold-free in our high-humidity climate?

Don't have a dry box big enough to keep them though I don't have a huge collection, maybe about 40?

Any tips will be much appreciated, thank you!  : ))

It's more like a toy actually, but it does work.

I've two of them in fact, one big, one small...

The bigger one plays 8ban records (they are 8 cm in diameter,  made of plastic not vinyl)

they were produced specifically for this type of players...

IMO, given our humidity, mold is inevitable,

we just have to be more diligent to clean them like @Creampie has suggested...

...or alternatively,

I would first rinse the vinyl under tap water,

and then spray the surface with an enzyme cleaner,

allowing the liquid to soak into the grooves for a bit;

while it's still wet, gently "scrub/clean" the surface with a record brush.

Thereafter, just rinse it again under the running tap again,

wipe away the excess water with a clean cloth,

and then let it dry completely on a dish rack before putting it back into its sleeve.

I enjoy flipping through crates upon crates of vinyls too,

perhaps we could organize an outing to Red Point along other BW fellow enthusiasts some day...

Apart from Red Point & Recrocrates,

do you know of any other record shops that're worth checking out?

Where can get the player that compatible with RGB cable?

Hey @dicky1973,

I got my player from RetroCrates,
and mine comes with RCA cable,

never knew the players come with RGB ones too...

Regardless, RetroCrates do have a vast variety of players,

you may want to call them up and enquire?

I truly regretted that i threw almost 300 classical music  vinyl recordings into the disposal bin in the early 1990s from the Deutsche Gramophone , HMV and Decca labels. They were  slightly warped and CDs were in the rage then. Wish i do keep them till today.

I feel you too...

Actually I regretted throwing away my cassette tape collections,

which is slowly making a comeback now,

plus there's a market for old titles fetching very good resale price too!

I've been collecting vinyls for quite a long while now,

to pick a Top 10 wouldn't be fair to the remaining ones that are not selected.

So my must-have would be those that I'm still hunting and hoping to find them some day...

In no particular order too...

  1. Loaded (12" single) - Primal Scream*
  2. It's Too Late (12" single) - Quartz Introducing Dina Carroll
  3. Now That's What I Call Music Vol. 15, 19 & 20 (Compilation Double LP)
  4. Hits 4 (Compilation Double LP)
  5. Who Knows What Love Is? (12" single) - Strawberry Switchblade
  6. All 7" & 12" singles by the now defunct British Band Vegas (made up of Terry Hall & Dave Steward)
  7. All 12" singles by the another British Band Technique
  8. All 12" singles by The Lightning Seeds
  9. Ray (LP) by Frazier Chorus
  10. Waltz Darling (LP) - Malcolm McLaren & The Bootzilla Orchestra

* hopefully I'll be able to get my hands on this re-release in this weekend's Record Store Day 2020!

Found this record yesterday at Analog Vault. Yaeji's debut mixtape ‘WHAT WE DREW 우리가 그려왔던’  A mix of deep house and hip-hop one of my favourite releases of 2020!

It's always a joy to find your favourite records!  Did you manage to check out their pre-loved vinyls?  I've not been here before, wonder what's their price range like for the pre-loved vinyls...

from what I remember majority of their vinyls are priced between $35 - $39 there are some exceptions where some are below $30 and go as low as $20 and go up high like $49. Depends on what you're looking for! The record I bought was $39 but the guy gave me a discount :P

they're having the record day  event tomorrow with more discounts if I'm not wrong!

I'm really hoping to find Idris Muhammad's Turn This Mutha Out!

Hey guys,

Glad this topic is back.

I've recently been going to a record shop over at Excelsior Shopping ctr, good collection of albums. There is another record shop in the basement that has a record cleaning service too.

However, I used to go to the chap over at Queensway, he has a record cleaning service that uses an Ultrasonic cleaning machine, really cleans thoroughly. His main shop is over at Golden Mile.

Cheers, Mike

thank you Mike for the info! I was wondering how I'm gonna clean my vinyls without damaging it as I live with windows open most of the time so I'm afraid of dust.

Hey there ,

well, most of my regular albums get a basic rinse with a light non-film residue detergent, (or just use good glassware detergent) and I use a good and soft rabbit hair brush, to clean the album . Thereafter, I let it air dry with a fan gently blowing... and I have the windows shut so no dust comes in, or otherwise I switch on the aircon.

Cheers, Mike
