SunDevil
I've sent the invites for those who have PMed me. Ikutube, I have plenty left I think the quality for SG viewers will be much better cos' it's a well known fact that broadband speed in MY sucks big time! I do get the occasional 'buffering' delay over here due to this. Anyway, let me know how it turns out for you guys over there. Also, please remember that Joost is still in beta...so don't expect much of out of it yet. It's definitely not gonna replace your cable box anytime soon, but I was told that Joost has just received new funding and will keep adding better channels soon. For those who are not comfortable about leaving emails, please PM me and I'll send the invites out a.s.a.p.Have fun! Quote Better the Devil you know than the Angel you don't... SunDevil
Buaya, try downloading it again. You probably had a timeout from the download server, which kinda explains why your download is incomplete.Let us know if you run into problems again. IkuTube
Sundevil, so what does this Joost thing do? Now it seems to be just like Youtube, but with a lot better quality... Sorry, Buaya is an IT idiot.. Dunno such stuff one... Joost is a like a juice out of our TV box lah - where we will sit down infront of the computer and watching TV programmes without going through a TV card. Nor we have to pay/subscribe for any programme while we watch it.Right now, it is still beta, and hopefully, when it is publicly launched, they have gay channel. Buaya
So, it is like a tv channel? Means like we can watch Ch8? But it seems like we can select what we want to watch and stop/pause the shows like youtube... And will the shows change daily or will they be stored... Hmm... Interesting concept but need to clarify between it and video sharing sites like youtube etc...Just an IT illiterate's point of view... SunDevil
Buaya, you definitely cannot watch Channel 8 from Joost, at least not now. OK! Simply put, Joost is like SCV, only :1. Joost doesn't charge you monthly subscription like SCV2. Joost uses P2P technology to broadcast its contents to your computer via your broadband internet connection. SCV uses radio frequency to broadcast its contents to your TV via coaxial cable plugged into your set-top box.3. Joost has very limited channels and contents for now. SCV, due to its pay TV business model, has definitely many many more channels and contents to offer.Youtube is definitely in a different league from Joost. Content and picture quality from Joost are way above Youtube. Also, Youtube is essentially a video sharing site whereby users provide the content by uploading them. Why the hype about Joost, you ask?1. It is blurring the line in between PC and TV. You are looking at the possibility of your PC replacing your set-top box in the future. Already many LCD TVs out there can double up as a PC monitor these days and the availability of many Home Theatre PCs (HTPCs) in the market right now just goes to show that the PC-TV integration is already happening.2. It’s created by the same people who gave us Skype and Kazaa. Skype became the de facto PC to PC free calling software for many of us and was subsequently bought over by eBay two years ago with a cool $2.5 billion price tag.3. Imagine not having to worry about hefty monthly subscriptions and yet, still be able to watch your favorite channels. I only have this to say to all the pay TV operators out there ie. SCV, Astro etc, “Be afraid…be very afraid!”4. This is tied to point 3 above. Some say the arrival of Joost signals the beginning of the end of pay TV operators. I kinda agree to a certain extent, but I haven’t figured out how Joost is gonna kill off those cash-rich operators, without them staging massive retaliations. From a consumer’s point of view, Joost will inject much needed competition into the pay TV market. Anyone who has any basic economic sense will tell you that the more competition there is, the more consumers like us will benefit. On a side note, DVD player is facing the same threat from all those external media players (EMP) that you guys talked about in the other thread during the last PC Fair. The number of movies you can store in that EMP of yours is only limited by the size of the hard disk inside it. So, instead of fiddling with hundreds of DVDs, you just need to type a few keywords, hit a few buttons, and voila…your movie of choice is playing on your TV. With improved broadband speed into our houses, it isn’t hard to imagine that we don’t need to go down to our neighborhood video store to get the latest movies on DVD anymore. With just a few clicks, you’ll be able to have your purchased movie stream right to your 42” LCD HD LCD TV in a matter of minutes, if not seconds. So, I hope I have clarified some of the confusions you had of Joost earlier. Keep those questions coming if you have any.The times ahead are indeed exciting, don’t you think? Quote Better the Devil you know than the Angel you don't... doncoin
Just out of curiosity since I work in the media industry, when you guys are watching Joost from Singapore, do you get served up local ads, or are the commercials US based? BTW, I just discovered Transformers the cartoon on Joost and they are amazingly fun to watch at work. Quote Love.

Also, I have sent invites to all those who had PMed me. If you cannot find the invite sitting in your Inbox, please check the Spam folder. Have fun!
