Perfume / Cologne / EDT Discussion (Compiled)

Recommended Posts

Am wearing (haha... had to check the bottle first, forget even what fragrance I am wearing, not enough brain cells liao) Reaction by Kenneth Cole. It is fresh while not having hints of "citrus" and "pine". It has watermelon scent in it. Cool right. Haha.

My friends bought me Allure Homme Sport by Channel for my birthday last year. I quite like the scent but not ultimately loving it. It is sweet and at times I think I smell like my mother. I love my mom but to smell her everywhere is a little freaky for me. Haha...

Tried Starwalker by Montblanc. My skin just soaks it up and the scent disappears really fast but it is nice and light. Was equally captivated by the scent and also the name of the scent. What a cool name!

Gucci by Gucci is really good! I have never been a big fan of mucky scents but Gucci by Gucci mesmerized me from the first whiff. In fact, I think I am going to get myself a bottle today. This was introduced by a friend and with Reaction by Kenneth Cole, is one of my favorite fragrances. Love the bottle too.

I used to wear Bvlgari Pour Homme. I loved the scent to bits. The scent did not last long on me but it had memories attached to it. It was first given to me by a guy I was seeing many many many years ago. I have since moved on.

Lastly, Z Zegna by Ermenegildo Zegna is another scent I'd recommend. It lasts. It is manly. It made all my friends ask me what I was wearing. But since I do not wear shirts that much (T-shirts are enough for me), this scent, I felt was not properly utilised. I felt it did not work with T-shirts and shorts.

Oh, I may recommend these fragrances but at the end of the day, it is how these fragrance react with your natural body odor to produce an entirely YOU scent. Just a disclaimer. :thumb:

The commercial brands are just for convenient day to day wear. I get bored with them after awhile

Whenever I have the opportunity,to travel overseas esp Europe, Middle EaSt, or States, I prefer to buy scent from home made essential oil scent.

They are shops selling products made by cottage industries. Hand made scent terrocotta bottle made from their local clay. They look like mini clay water jars.Or bottled in hand made vintage glass bottles, duplicating the 20-50s European perfume bottles then.

The oil are processed and distilled from plants. They are 100% handmade. comes in 15ml bottle but very concentrated.

Or I just hop into some new age/pagan shops sellings witches oil brewed for spells. But I don't care, pretty thrilled by the idea of wearing some oil made for that kind of purpose

They come in names like...Oil of Venus....dragonblood oil. Merln's medellion...Evening of the Reddust....Moonlight Drama....Oil of Justice...Oil of Protection...Mermaid's Dream....Pagan Oil....Eye of Isis...

Their list just goes on...its exciting aside from the commercial ones.

surprising they do last for abt 4 hrs

Currently, I'm using Chanel's Allure Cologne Sport and Allure Edition Blanche. My female colleagues love it. A lot of them said so. Since, if the women love the scent which means I may smell manly. Aren't gay men going for manly scented men ? Who will go for a guy that smell like a woman ?

No, not so true. There is no specific perfume which is for a specfic gender although some are specifically made for that gender. Whether is a lady's or a guy's perfume, it depends how your own body skin chemistry reacts to it that produces a different effect. Not to forget when a perfume emits out from your skin, other surrounding smells (eg food court) will alter its original sense.

Its not how manly you smell, its how you look or behave.

CK One and Clinique Happy - still my favourite ; light and refreshing.

But these days seldom use cologne for work, just use a light deodorant; every other gals and guys are wearing different perfume/cologne, sometimes the whole room is so over powered with a rojak of smell.

Walk into a packed lift after lunch on a hot afternoon and you know what I mean.

Absolutely. I save expensive fragrances for the odd night out, and like yourself, I use a neutral/light-smelling deodorant for every day.

after reading your post on Chanel's frangrance which your female colleagues gave such a good feedback, i went to tampines isetan to try the Chanel's Allure Cologne

Sport and Allure Edition Blanche. I find the Chanel's Allure Cologne Sport is nice but not Allure Edition Blanche (individual preference) :) Finally, i love Chanel Allure

Homme Sport the most which has been used by coolspecs before  i did not buy from the Tampines Isetan as there is no discount given.

I asked by cousin who work in Chanel to get 100ML Chanel Allure Homme Sport for me and i just got it today from her at sgd80.50 after 30pct discount! :thumb:

in Arab Street there are merchants like Kazura selling all natural alcohol free perfume oil from the middle east who have a long culture of scenting the body for decoruum and prayers and they have wide collection of perfume for men that smells not like orchard road run of the mill smells,

all the branded ones get their source from the same perfumers in the south of France namely, Fragonard and Molinard. Check the internet for these two names.

After a while the perfumes and EDT SOLD IN

Airport duty free and orchard smell so similar because everyone wants to copy the winning formula.

CK be was so successful at mass marketing to the late teens and early adult that sparked copy cats like Tommy Hilfiger and the likes.

Hello, these two sell clothes like t shirts, and then branch into Perfumes and scents which have the highest profit margins of any lifestyle product.

Why else can they employ one person to stand around all day spritzing perfume.

middle eastern perfume oil is suited to Asians since, Arabs, indians and south east asians and even Africans use it centuries before the likes of CK and Tommy Hilfiger came along.

Look for Kazura shop in Arab Street , the can custom blend a scent for you and you will smell heavenly and pure and not like everyone else.

The difference is instead of smelling like a sea of rojak during lunch time.

arab perfumery makes you think of heaven and good thoughts.

so, can anyone introduce me your secret weapon that you use to attract your man?

Lasts pretty long. In our climate, lighter and fresher scents tend to work better. Sweat and humidity kill floral top notes rather too quickly, leaving over-heady mid and base tones. A lot depends on your personal skin "chemistry" as well. I like Jo Malone stuff for their simplicity. They're a fragrance house in an age when even Britney and Mariah can hire a perfumer to whip something up, which is what the designer labels do as well. Aside from Chanel, most of the labels don't have much history or grounding in fragrances, and license their name out instead.

@Insomnia91: I guess we all have different moods for different days. Thus the need for a perfume collection?

Everyone needs to try Terre d Hermes! It's the best fragrance I've had so far. It can last up to 2 days. :):)

Try scents from Serge Lutens like Five o'clock au gingembre, Arabie, Chergui, Gris Clar, etc.

Try scents from L'Artisan Parfumeur like Dzing! and Fou d'Absinthe.

You should also try scents like Sycomore and Coromandel which can be found at the Chanel boutiques.

I like woody/musky scents.

Other than these, I also have/use Chanel's Egoiste, Pour Monsieur, Pour Monsieur Concentree and Antheus. Have Escada Pour Homme, Adore Zino Davidoff. Kinda like Dirty English by Juicy Couture (was pleasantly surprised that JC made a scent dats so woody), I also like Grey Flannel by Geoffrey Beene (but many of my frens hate it).

Used to like fruity/citrussy scents when I was younger. But this changed as I got older. (Though I stil like Rochas Homme).

Woah nice collection and recommendations! I no $$ so I usually just buy decants of the more costly fragrances online like these.

have been using a few different scents, but"balenciaga paris" has become my scent over the years. it's a female scent, but it smells neither overly floral nor feminine. i'm not particular on strong or overtly masculine scents, so the powdery and pale cream notes work well for me. i use marc jacobs' "bang" for a spicier scent, for special moments. and marc jacobs' "grass" to layer my scents (it smells like fresh grass, as the name implies. haha!)

serge lutens has a great selection too. or perhaps it's just me and my general taking to more minimal scents.
