1. Looking back at Singapore LGBT history, I believe PinkDot Events stand out as the breakthrough event that brought the LGBT messages to mainstream attention and hopefully more acceptance.

2. I pulled out my copy of Lynette Chua's Mobiling Gay Singapore to check out how she recorded PinkDot in the annals of LGBT History.

It is Chapter 7 - "Moblizing in the Open".

3. On page 125 - "Pink Dot: Organizing Singapore's First Public Gay Rally". The author wrote:

"Before the AWARE saga, enthusiasm was flagging for Pink Dot. By then the event have been pushed back ...."

"The AWARE saga, which took place from March through early May 2009, renewed energy for Pink Dot. "

4. Fast forward to 2014, this year we have the "Wear white" challenges from 2 religious groups.

The 2 challenges brought prominent publicity for the event too.

As I read the posts of several members here, can sense that the challenge from the 2 religious groups "angered" them. People felt bullied.

While PinkDot had a good 5 years run, some people have already got jaded. There were still many who had always sat on the fence.

Personally I think that the renewed media attention and the resultant 26,000 supporters was the result of the challenge from the religious group..

5. Sometimes (and ironically), I think we need to thank the Aggressive public stand taken by the those Right Wing Conservative Group.

Because of their "aggressive" stand, they were seem as "bullying" and imposing their religious views on our Secular society.

It ended out that this was the "unifying force" that brought the community together. Such news-worthy events also garnered publicity in the main stream media which it was always denied.

In Internet Speak, Lawarence Khong just "Self-Pwn" his Conservative Right Wing Groups.

6. The above isn't trying to trivialize the work of the Pink Dot Organizer and Activist.

1. While reading the above book, now I realised why the speakers were NOT using the HongLim Park main stage for their address.

2. Apparently the Main Stage belongs to PA/Community Club. It is officially outside HongLimPark Speaker's corner.

The organiser's had to rent it from PA and also obtain a Public Entertainment Licence for performers to perform on it.

3. The other stage where the speakers spoke was constructed to be within HongLimPark which allowed them to speak without a police permit (other than registering with NParks)

Looking at the scale of organisation of this event and the kind of video production taken, I think PD has some really rich individuals or companies sponsoring them (besides those companies who openly support the event).  NO way the organising committee has so much funds to do so many things.

Video very nicely filmed and done. Great job.
