Forced To Be Shirtless?

Have you guys ever been forced to take off your shirt as a kid?  Till I was about 7 or 8, I would wear tees and shorts at home and pajamas to bed. When I got back home one day, I realized my mum had accidentally shrunk a bunch of my tees in the wash. I tried wearing one and it was too tight. I was 8 but I was a tall and bigger kid. Not fat but not small sized. My mum told me she will buy new shirts the next day and told me to adjust for the day. So I just wore it. At this point, my dad was home. My dad is one of those manly, sporty cig-smoking kind of guys who rarely wears a shirt indoors and outdoors sometimes. He was a school athlete and exercises regularly with a fit body. He just tells me, you’re a big boy. You don’t have to wear a shirt at home. I was confused but he told me I looked stupid in this shirt. He just came up to me and pulled the shirt off me. I remember just standing there really embarrassed but my dad was like stop being a baby, this is normal.

 

And that was just the start. He convinced my mother not to buy me any shirts to wear at home saying it is a waste of money. So I was just wearing shorts at home. I eventually grew out of my pajamas and ended up just sleeping in shorts as well. I didn’t get any new clothes. I only got clothes to wear when we went out. It was not like we were poor my dad just didn’t think boys needed  to wear much at home. Hahaha.

Although I was embarrassed and shy at first, it helped me a lot with my confidence and become more comfortable with my body. I took care of myself. I was athletic and would eat right. My dad and I would even go running and exercise in the park when I was in my teens. I guess we bonded because of being shirtless a lot. I have to say that if not for him, I would not be physically fit and strong and also comfortable with my body. I have to thank him. And to top things off, he still is in great shape continuing to run regularly and even gyms. He’s strong and fit and can even put some younger guys to shame.

Has anyone ever had a similar experience where you were forced to be shirtless? Embarrassing at first but turned to be something positive later?

such a heartwarming story. thanks for sharing. as for me, I guess me n my bro just followed our dad who's also shirtless most of the time at home. he didn't tell us nor any shortage of shirts. another reason is I would sweat alot and it gets hot pretty often. its so much cooling being shirtless.

hey guys, i just wanted to share because i have never really heard any one being forced. Ive spoken to some of my friends and they have just said that they do it out of their own accord and also because of hot weather. but not specifically where their dad tells them to do it. so thats why i thought my experience was a little different. thats all. just wanted to see if others had similar experience. 

 

and yes although i was shy at first it became a really practical solution. our weather is hot all the time and it was easier to keep cool and also when you went to play outside you didn't dirty a shirt if you weren't wearing one. haha. but  i think how it helped me a lot was building my confidence. i sometimes even see grown men who are a bit shy to take off their shirt in public or even in the home. just a few days ago, some of my colleagues and i went for an evening run at the park. 5 of us went, all guys. only myself another colleague were shirtless for the exercise. the others even joked and asked us if our shirt got stolen. even after we exercised and got sweaty only one of the 3 took off his shirt to cool off. the other two kept it on. when asked they just say dont want la...pai seh. and these guys are in good shape so it didnt make sense to me. 

 

so makes me wonder if i didn't have my dads meddling i might have been like that. thats what im more thankful for. i went to the pool last week and saw a lot of kids who wear full body suits when swimming. i know it protects them from uv rays and everything but i think if boys wore trunks to swimming it would teach them from a young age not to be shy about their bodies and be comfortable. i mean now even in school boys dont take off their shirts during p.e. i remember when i was in secondary school, we would go running shirtless and even play shirts vs skins. 

 

i just think confidence has to built from a young age which young boys are not given the chance. like now most fathers arent even shirtless at home because of air conditioning and the sons just follow them which is unlike maybe 10-15 years ago when not every home had aircon. i guess we are a bit hung up on body image compared to places like europe where being shirtless indoors or outdoors is pretty normal. 

 

wow. i picture of my dad. i would probably have to search the old albums to find a pic and then scan it. haha. unless i take a pic of him now and show you guys. he might scold and tell me don't put in the Internet or something. hahah.

he shouted at us telling us that he already told us then he told us to take off our shirts and pants. we hesitated a little but couldnt take the heat so we complied. after we strip to our briefs,  it felt so much better and i could sleep much better. should have done it sooner. after that we pretty much spent the days there running around topless in shorts like two monkeys. we became kampung boys very quickly.  that was the start. after that i remember we started doing the same back in Singapore. till now, after i come back from work i don't wear a shirt till the next day work. its just shorts for me. same with my brother. it took a trip to the kampung to follow in our fathers footsteps and embrace the barebodied kampung spirit.

No, i had a choice whether I wanted to be shirtless or not at home, although my dad taking off his shirt was a common sight. I found it uncomfortable to lean against the sofa or anything else because of the humidity here, so it was mostly shirt on for me.

this seems similar to my friend in uni. i had this friend in uni, my roomie. he was quite the exhibitionist. fit guy, muscles, sixpack etc. exercise regularly. will only wear short running shorts around the dorm. never wears a shirt. mostly sleeps in underwear but sometime even go commando. he struck me as a very confident guy. but there was once i was doing project at his house and it was quite late. since he lived very far from campus he tell me i can spend the night. as i was getting ready for bed, i changed into my shorts. I usually sleep topless. surprisingly, he was wearing a tee and shorts. then he asked me if i mind wearing a shirt? i was a bit confused. he said his mum is a bit strict and there is no business of walking around topless and such. must be dressed modestly. his mum is divorced and he has got two school going sisters. i agreed as it made sense for the mum wanting to protect the sisters as well and the brother dressing appropriately would mean that his friends would follow to i suppose. but the mum is strict only when it comes to the house. my friend goes to the park to run and exercise shirtless. so i think its only for the home. nevertheless, i was a little surprised. it made more sense why he was such an exhibitionist outside as he was being restricted at home.

has happened to me before. in bmt as well as unit. in bmt, once or twice during drill training. shirtless in slacks. for PT was once or twice during interval training, mostly running and callisthenics. once during night training, when my officer brought us on a run around tekong, including the old school.  then several times during my unit pt training. it was quite normal for me as i had an officer who became a commando officer. but he got injured a month after graduating. he wasn't able to do a lot of the commando stuff but he refused to switch to service or downgrade his pes too much.  so he got transferred to my unit and became my pc. pt training conducted by him meant we were going topless. apparently, pt training for commandos is conducted sans shirt. don't know how far is true.

i think everyone got body image problems. even some of the guys who have adonis type body has insecurities. i think it is somehow the barrier that everyone has to break through some day. being topless is a natural thing for a man but many of us think about it so much and make it really a big issue. i think we just need the time and right opportunity. i think that is why these forced shirtless can work to our advantage as it helps us to break through that barrier.

i think a fit body would always drive someone to be shirtless, to want to show off the fruits of your hard work.

 

i think for some units will depend on who the sgt or officer is. im sure some instructors will tell them not to do it. i even had one sgt tell us off saying who gave us permission to walk around topless and in underwear in the corridors during bmt. and this was just outside our bunk. he even made us knock it down in the corridor, in our underwear. thankfully, not all of the sgts thought like him.

 

i dunno about the current trend of training topless in camps now. but i went to safti couple of times and saw one whole company of cadets running shirtless wearing just red shorts. must be some kind of run around the camp. this was like 5 years ago.

yes, its quite a good feeling especially when its warm. you also feel quite macho when you're topless i think. the very man feeling. i think the best attire for guys at home is just shorts. comfortable when you don't have to wear a shirt but still acceptable than just wearing underwear. it is a good middle point.

However, I was quite shy with my body when I was young so I didn't really like to be topless and I felt that it was a bit uncivilized. When my friends came over, I had to ask my grandpa to wear his shirt because I didn't want to be embarrassed. I felt uncomfortable being topless.

 

Anyway fast forwards by a few years where I moved out and stayed alone, I met my ex and he loves being naked at home. Yes, naked and not "topless". He always frowned at me for being all covered up while we were at home. He liked to forcefully removed my clothing and see me squirmed. LOL. Anyhow, after I started gymming, my body was much bearable to look at and due to my ex persistent nagging, I adopted the rule of being topless/naked at home.

 

Currently, I'm on my bed with just my undies.

i never got into wearing singlets under my shirt. nobody in my family or extended family does it so it was never the norm. most of my friends don't wear undershirts either. i think its not the norm in singapore. however, when i travelled in places like india, china, thailand, usa, etc there is the habit of wearing an undershirt under their shirt. i think it has to do with the culture. 

 

the weather is terribly hot but its the perfect excuse to go topless.

thats quite a good dad. he encouraged you to go shirtless. this is the type of positive encouragement boys need when growing up. this way they will not be shy and will be comfortable of their bodies. i feel the younger dads don't encourage their sons as much as the older dads. especially in the 90s, it was common for guys to walk around the neighbourhood topless, especially when going to buy things from the nearby shop or just hanging out. now it is not as common. 

 

thats quite a cool gym owner. most gym owners would never allow that. i had a similar experience when i was in secondary school. the coach would encourage us to do weights shirtless as the p.e shirts were short sleeved and didn't reveal much of your body. he would tell us exactly how to lift and also the right way when we didn't have a shirt to hide the muscles.

I wish my dad forced me to go shirtless like your dad. Sometimes I don't feel enough confidence to venture out without a shirt. If he had insisted me to go shirtless, I would be more comfortable

 

I don't know why, but my gym owner, although he tells us to take off our shirts to workout, he doesn't want us to arrive without a shirt. I once saw him telling jokes to a guy when he go to the gym without a safety shirt. I'm unsure if he is serious or just want to poke him? Sounds weird.

During my conscription I was forced to train shirtless in public and to strip naked also in front of female staff. When I was a conscript I had to be a lifeguard in a beach for the families of military officers. So obviously I had to stay in swimsuit for all the time of my work anyway my superiors had fun with me because they ordered me to remain in swimsuit even after my work so I was forced to stay almost naked and barefoot even in front of people elegantly clothed, women too, in fact after the work as lifeguard I had to serve as handyman. Sometimes some ladies, especially old ones, took advantage on me and touched my muscles, my bulge, my ass: I remember when two old ladies pinched my nipples with a pair of clothespins for joke. At first I was very shy and I felt humiliated but thanks to that experience I realized it's fine for a man to be forced to stay shirtless and even naked because we are very different from the fair sex... we are so beastly compared to women so now I'm no longer shy. I served in Europe.
