Sunday Times Hot Bod (6 October 2019)

Daryl Poh, 23

Student

spacer.png

Height: 1.84m

Weight: 76kg

Exercise Regimen: I go to the gym six days a week, spending about three hours per session and I do mainly weight training with callisthenics. The last half hour of each session includes a short rest before I do some cardio exercises.

Diet: My breakfast is usually 10 egg whites, two slices of wholemeal bread, and two servings of protein powder. Lunch is fish and sometimes, more egg whites with brown rice, and my dinner is another two scoops of protein powder. I avoid beer as I am not fond of it, and I also try to stay away from deep-fried food and sugary items. But I love spicy mala dishes.

Exercise Regimen: My training varies from six to nine times a week. It's swimming on Mondays, double sessions of cycling and running on Tuesdays and Thursdays and single runs or riding sessions the other days. Weekends are my long training rides and runs

Diet: I've cut out rice and unnecessary carbs and started taking in more protein and fats. I'm still a long way from a true LCHF (low-carb, high-fat) diet. Except for race day and a few days before that, I don't eat breakfast. My first meal of the day is lunch. Dinner is usually after training. I snack on nuts.

Errrrrr........I am sorry........I think there are much better choices out there for our Hot Bods.

Anyway, a good lesson here is if you are very active especially in endurance training, and especially if you have the body type that burns calories easily like this guy, please incorporate carbohydrates in your diet. Otherwise, you will be as flat as an airport.

I do cardio training every day - low-intensity sustained state (LISS) style. In the off-season, it's high-intensity interval training (HIIT) once or twice a week.

Diet: During the training session I pack my own food, so that I know what goes in. I am not strict during the off-season but ensure there's a lower body-fat percentage with a good split of carbs, protein and fat.

While in Singapore, I try to train two days a week in the gym with my personal trainer and another session on my own. I also try to work or jog daily. While travelling, I try to hit the gym if there's one in the hotel. Otherwise, I do a 20-minute HIIT workout in the hotel room.

Diet: While I don't have a strict diet, I maintain a small daily calorie deficit as I would still like to lose a couple of kilograms. To help my body recover and build muscle more easily, I keep my protein intake high by supplementing it with protein shakes.

Exercise Regimen: Other than yoga almost daily, I do a variety of other workouts. I try to run at least twice a week, 8-10km each time. I also do 45-60 minutes of HIIT training twice a week and two days of strength training in the gym.

Diet: I try to take more cruciferous vegetables, such as broccoli. I love carbs, as my body processes them easily, and I try to have a higher intake of protein, and less fats. Once in a while, I indulge in cakes and ice cream.

Height: 1.70m

Weight: 77kg

Exercise Regimen: I try to do a 90-minute daily workout. Some days I do HIIT, and play team sports like water polo or basketball.

Diet: I try to avoid too much fast food and fried food. I do not really watch my diet but eat everything in moderation.
