There'll be no rest for Asian Games gold medalist Joseph Schooling. The 19-year-old swimmer will soon start working out, adding bulk to that fine physique as he prepares for his next goal: th Rio de Janeiro Olympics 2016.

Some of his times are comparable to the world's best, but there's a long way to go to fulfilling his childhood dream of winning an Olympic medal.

Business analyst

34702042204_e214727803_o.jpg

Height: 1.72m

Weight: 67kg

Exercise Regimen: My fitness goal is to build an aesthetically-pleasing physique which inspires but looks attainable to others. I train five or six times in the gym. All muscle groups are given equal emphasis to maintain good overall body proportion. On non-gym days, I will go for a short swim or a game of badminton.

Diet: My carbs are brown rice, sweet potatoes, whole meal bread and oats which take longer to digest and do not raise the sugar levels in the blood as quickly as simple carbs. Meat sources are roasted chicken or pan-fried fish. Vegetables are steamed or eaten raw. I drink about 25 cups of water daily.

Height: 1.7m

Weight: 67kg

Exercise Regimen: I train five or six days a week. I switch my routine every two weeks, varying from tabata, push/pull routines to functional training incorporating German Volume Training. Switching routines confuses the muscles into new growth. I foam roll after workouts to smooth and lengthen my muscles. It improves blood circulation and this speeds up recovery and boosts performance.

Diet: I eat healthy and sustainably through flexible eating. The goal is to develop a diet you can maintain for life. I use nutritional or health beneficial ingredients with herbs and spices to enhance flavours. I drink at least 12 glasses of water and green tea as well.

Exercise Regimen: I swim four times a week for 30 to 40 laps each, or go to the gym occasionally. Twice a week, I go for high intensity runs which consist of 10sec jogs and 30sec sprints. I always run up the stairs in my daily commute.

Diet: I start the day off with cereal, strawberries, blueberries, bananas and green tea. Sometimes, I replace the cereals with wholemeal bread, peanut butter and low-fat cheese. Lunch is usually yong tau foo consisting of mainly vegetables. For dinner, I like to have flour vermicelli with chicken, fish and Chinese wine. After dinner, I have a glass of protein shake mixed with fruit. I eat only brown rice instead of white rice. Guest Swimmer

Yeah those hunks like to comment on the Jason who is 50 .

Can you even swim 30 to 40 laps 4 times a week mind you.

For his age at 50 it's considered very fit.

Most hunks who swim in the pool cannot even swim more than ten laps continuously or even more! I have seen many who just have a nice muscled body but lack stamina when it comes to swimming or running!

If Jason consistently goes to gym like you hunks who only play with with dumb bells weights etc. Surely he can achieve your kind of gym fit body.

Being fit and having big muscular body are not the same.

I would say those with bulging and chunky muscles are just "pretty" (again, it's subjective) to look at. Dun expect them to run or to swim.

Just look at the pool, so many "swimmers" ( as they called themselves) spent hours in the pool but never touch water.

It's not that I am bashing anyone here but that a the fact.

Peace.

there is a reason.

too much cardio makes a person smaller that is why gym fanatics dont do as much cardio as those swimmer or runners. the latter have slimmer build.

i have seen marathoner with skinny but lean body...its not desirable body type to me.

for me, i started gym to bulk cos my swim/run making me 'small size'...however im keeping a balance, to build mass and maintain stamina.

Well said blue runner my observations too in the pool.

Agree with the guest about doing cardio tend to cause the body to be leaner too and difficult to bulk.

Personally prefer lean tone to beefy muscular guys.

Meh.

Most men in their 50's don't even care about their bodies anymore, most due to work and family start to have huge bellies and don't exercise.

I think Jason is considered to be the top tier uncles who tries to stay healthy and keep fit, quite inspiring and hopefully I can maintain till my 50's.

Know this guy. Down to earth and very humble. The reason he keeps fit is because he has a bad back condition and he has to strengthen it through exercise. He cannot afford to gain weight else it would give him problem as well.

Height: 1.78m

Weight: 75kg

Exercise Regimen: I do an hour of gymnastics strength training in the morning before work five days a week, focusing on connective tissue dynamic strength. And I'll then do Pilates every day before lunch, focusing on joint mobility. Every night, I'll do gymnastics stretched before I go to bed.

Diet: I eat almost everything except that I try to avoid wheat on weekdays. My carbs source is mostly from rice or anything made from rice flour. For my lunches on weekdays, I'll have chicken or tuna salad and for dinner, it's either the typical mixed rice set with less rice, or Western food with salad.
