I am one who believes in such things, having encountered such matters myself personally during my army days, and not just once too. Sometimes, I think the spirits are around us all the time. However, their activity during this period peaks simply because we, as human beings, have made it that way with all our celebration etc. Take for instance, isn't love around us all the time? But yet, it seems like Christmas season seems to be the time when romance is densest in the air, to the extent that the peak season where children get born is in October. So who made it that way? Answer: human beings because we started the celebration of Christmas ourselves. Sometimes, in folklore, this is what you call the power of "Belief".

I am a believer of Buddhism as well. But just because Buddhism did not tell us that a ghost month exist, does not mean that it do not exist. In case you have also forgotten, Buddhism did tell us about the existence of hell. In fact, Kṣitigarbha Bodhisattva 地藏菩萨 vowed that "直至众生度尽,方证菩提,地狱末空,誓不成佛。" While it's good to have a healthy scepticism about everything, it's wise to acknowledge that there are still many things that science and many other teachings have yet to reach out to. There's no body of knowledge that will be able to impart every piece of knowledge to you.

Yes, spirits (or ghosts) exist and around us all the time especially near the time before a person passed away. But no where in the Sutras mentioned that 7th month is ghost month and the gate of hell is wide open for all the ghosts to come out and haunt humans. If you claimed to be a believer of Buddhism, then don't believe what the Founder of Buddhism never taught. When Buddha never tell you to burn paper money to appease the ghosts, then don't burn.

Don't tell others what to believe and what not to. The freedom to believe lies in the individual, and not with you.

Last night i had a dream. In my dream i was doing some works at home. Then I heard someone was crying and weeping sadly outside my house. Driven by curiosity i open my house wood door and saw a 5-6yo child was squating and weeping on the corridor and hand holding a plastic toy ball. Upon seeing that, i wanted to open my gate to go out. Just about i wanted to unlock the gate lock, a kind looking old man with white hair appeared infront of me outside the gate. He said "not to care him. He is like that one". Upon hearing that, i stopped. My alarm ringged 7:30am. I waked up to get ready out for work. I locked my gate then left for work. As i turned i saw a toy ball on the corridor. Not sure the same ball appeared in my dream or not. Instintively, something told it was left by that weeping kid. A strange dream...

Oh man!! That's a bit creepy, but at the same time it's not something evil.

Hopefully next time when you are walking along your corridor, this is what you'll see

I might be over-reading the events, but I noticed during the past few years, there has always been some major mishaps happening just before or around the lunar 7th month. For example, MH17 was shot down on 17 July 2014 before the lunar 7 month started on 24 July 2014; an ATR-42 crashed in the eastern Indonesian province of Papua killing all 54 people on 16 August 2015 after the lunar 7 months started on 14 August 2015. But this year, it's exceptionally quiet. I wonder if it's going to culminate in some really bad news soon.

I wonder whom might be that old man? Know i think he might be the local God of Earth whom might just try to save me from trouble.

Sometimes, the dream could be a symbolic message to you.

For example, one interpretation could be that if there is something persistent troubling or worrying you, the angel (disguised as the old man) is trying to tell you not to let that matter disturb your peace or make you feel threatened, because some things/people are like that: they make a lot of noise but are harmless.

And since the angel is watching over you, it's safe for you to keep your focus on what matters to you, and you need not worry about any troubling news (e.g. rumours of retrenchment, etc.).

And to confirm to you that it was not a mere dream, the angel allowed you to see the ball when you woke up.

Just my view   :D

Guest Advance warning

The troubling news of impending retrenchment may be an advance warning for you to look for a new job.  Be practical and be tactical in life.

There are currently many unreported retrenchment going on so as not to raise alarm.

Could be too.

The more literal interpretation of your dream would be like, if you hear noises outside your house, don't open and go out to see.

That is the Ullambana Sutra.  The Buddha instructs his disciple Maudgalyayana on how to obtain liberation for his mother, who had been reborn into a lower realm, by making food offerings to the sangha on the fifteenth day of the seventh month.  The Sutra is about filial piety, that's all.  Nothing was mentioned about Hell  Gate opens and many ghosts coming out.

Don't be alarm.  The plastic ball had been there all the time, you may have seen it but did not get your attention only.   Even the old man.   You may have seen someone, or a poster or stature some times back.  All these images were subconsciously registered in your brain cells.   That's how formation of dream come about.  The ball was definitely left behind by a child, but definitely not what you had thought.

I think the dream actually bode well for you. Firstly, you said you wanted to open the metal gate to go out (presumably to check on the crying boy). In real life, some people may just shout at the boy to go away. But in your subconscious, you were actually concerned enough to open the door to check on him. This shows that you are a kind hearted person in nature, and people will get rewarded for that. Next, it was a kind hearted old man who spoke to you, and not an evil looking one. So all in all, I think this is a good dream. This is a sign that something good is going to happen to you because of your kindness. So just keep an eye out for that. (Just my amateur opinion here)

I agreed. The next morning, he found a real ball outside his house. This can be interpreted as He got ball(s) !!!!

and is a complement.

The mighty brain is still working when you are asleep. Your five senses still work, and your brain would have interpreted it magically (because it's another part of your brain) different than in real life. You most likely had heard the toy ball landed outside your home and you created a story that you somehow wanted to see. I can't prove or disprove this theory since science has not yet caught up on this aspect for many centuries to come.

Pretty sure I have been hearing ghost noises in my room? From tapping and dragging noises from the ceiling to dropping of marbles from the wall next door. Nothing life threatening or whatsoever. Maybe I am just coexisting with them?

Any ideas what those noises might mean? And do any of you have similar encounters?

Just ignore them. I've been hearing falling and rolling marbles too in the middle of the night from the unit upstair. I can't help it so one weekend, I visited the unit to ask. No one is answering so I went down to the maintenance office and asked for information about the unit. So this is the scary part, the unit has been vacant for about a year now and has been in the market. No one dare to rent or buy it. Something about the vibe he said. So I told him the story and accompany me to the unit. The unit is empty. It was damp and cold. I suddenly felt sick so I immediately stepped out of the unit. I think it was haunted.

Not being aftaid, takes time. In my case, i have to watch a lot of horror movies and get used to it. Then eventually but rightfully you'll get scared with real people that can do you harm. Also a naughty friend told me "if ever you get scared or your mind is playing supernatural tricks on you, then just think of sexy thoughts. A good erection scares the ghosts away." Lol

Just because you blocked your mind away from the presence of such entities, does not mean that  they are not there. Would you rather have the sense to know that they are there and avoid them when you can, or encroach into their space accidentally in ignorance? And by the way, from what I hear, a good erection may NOT scare the ghosts away. In fact, it might just do the opposite...

the marbles have been a v topic in all ghost forums and other forums: for decades at least from 2006 (just that in the 80- 90s, not every one has access to internet and forums like us)

they said it s concrete contracting , not marbles

or piping issue in old flat, not just old

new flats too, I heard before

WHAT "entities"?

Just because some idiots have written about scary ghosts they invented, you have to be a sucker that believes in them?

The realization that superstitions can be imported into the mind without any justification should be enough reason for an intelligent person to reject ALL of them.  And a way to reject them is to consciously remove them from your mind.

Only well-to-do people are afraid of many things.  I have seen a poor lady, sitting in dark lane alone, one late evening selling tissue paper and she slept in those rat infested place with nothing to warm her except cardboard paper.  If she is so brave and not afraid of the dark in quiet places, why are people who slept warmly in their own clean house so afraid of many "things"?

I know why, rich people usually have very dark minds, they did many wrong things and probably hurt many people during their life time.

One Scary Drive

4 years ago, a young couple was driving back to Kluang from Johor Baru on the rural roads.

“After 45 minutes, we came to a stretch with trees and bushes on both sides of the roads.  There was no other car. Then, the music in our car stopped playing.  It wasn’t from the radio but a USB flash drive.  At the same time, the car’s GPS failed to work and we could not get any line on our phones.  We were baffled,” says Joon Meng.

Then all of a sudden, the couple saw a house that seemed to appear out of nowhere. Joon Meng recalls, “It was a wooden house decorated in a Chinese style.  What’s eerie was there was a coffin outside the house.  We also saw a middle-aged couple at the wake.  I stopped and asked a man there for directions to the highway. At first, he did not answer.”

Joon Meng and his ex-girlfriend then decided to pay their respects to the deceased.  Holding joss sticks, they prayed and also asked for a safe journey home.  After that, the man gave them directions.

“He told us to drive for another 50 minutes along the road to reach the highway."

True enough, the couple found themselves back on track and on the brightly-lit highway.  They breathed a sigh of relief.

Hitting Nothing

10 years ago, Muthu was travelling back to Kuala Lumpur from Kota Baru in Kelantan on the old trunk roads one evening. “I drove past stretches of road which was pitch black. Just before midnight, I saw a woman wearing a white baju kurung waving at me at a bus stop. I remembered my father’s words, ‘Don’t stop for anyone’,” he says.

“But 2 km later, I saw a woman, also in white, standing in the middle of the road staring at me.  It was past midnight and my instincts told me it couldn’t be human as there were only palm oil estates around me.  So, I accelerated my car.  But before that, I flashed my headlights at the woman.  She didn’t move an inch.  I couldn’t swerve to the side to avoid her as I would land in the ditch as the road was narrow. I drove through her and there was no impact.  But it felt like I was driving through light,” Muthu recalls.

Muthu drove on until he reached a petrol station in Gua Musang.  He slept in his car outside the closed station.

Ghost Hitchhiker

A group of friends were in their 4WD vehicle, travelling down a remote road in Sibu, Sarawak, past midnight.

“Our car was speeding. The speedometer showed 140kph but strangely, we felt like we were travelling at 20kph,” Felix reminisces.

“No matter how hard the driver stepped on the accelerator, the car seemed to move at an incredibly slow speed.”

Then came a lorry which started to honk at them.  The passengers in the car were irritated and thought the lorry driver was a road bully.

“The lorry driver gestured us to wind down our windows.  The driver and his attendant then shouted to warn us. They were frantically pointing as if to indicate something on top of our vehicle,” says Felix.

“He spoke in Malay, ‘Ada benda kat atas. Doa.’  (There’s something on top of the car. Pray.)”

“We were petrified and started praying in our hearts.  It still took some time before our car seemed to gain speed. ”

When things seemed normal, the driver asked us to look at the rear mirror.

“From a far, we saw a woman with long hair and in white standing in the middle of the road.  She was staring at us.  We all looked at the rear mirror but none of us dared to turn around to look back!”

Pinched by a Ghost

2 years ago, a couple went for a holiday to Langkawi with a group of friends.  They stayed at a kampung-styled resort, surrounded by padi fields.  Each kampung hut was over 100 years old.  “On the first night, there were incessant knocks on our door.  But every time we opened the door, there was no one there,” says Mona, a housewife in her 30s.  “When I woke up, I had bruises all over my body as if someone had pinched me.  No one else in our group experienced it though. I will never ever go back to that resort.  Obviously, I’m not welcomed there,” she says.

This is Number 5.

or you also can say that they comparatively have reached a different point in life.

one person has worked so much for their wealth/ status (whether good or bad means) and stand to lose the most. of course they'd do anything to protect themselves.

the other person whatever happened, whether fell into debt, crippled, unfortunate circumstances and such, they already lost nearly all of what they have so they have nothing to lose. so more loss is numb to them already.

just what ever you do , be optimistic, even if you fuck up, remember that its no use beating yourself up. learn from the mistake (apologise and make amends) and move on. you dont gain anything from wallowing in your own sorrow and self pity.

This is my scary encounter. In sometime 2012 Friday night around 3am, it was a quiet night and there was not many cars / taxi on the road. I was driving home from my fb place near Harborfront. I remember I was driving on Kampung Bahru rd alone, then from a far I saw an all white figure standing at the bus stop near the edge. Instint told me it was something... I began to feel shiver down my spine. My hair stood up immediately. I was quite freaked out. Then without realising I began to slow down. As my car approaching it, I had a better vision of it. The "it" was in a 60s kind of retro white skirt and dress. A Long black hair on her back. It was so weird that it kept staring the road opposite side of the bus stop. It was sort of relief that it didn't notice me. There was no other way I can u turn. It was a one way road. I began to chant the Buddhist prayer... Nam mo oh mi to for... Nam mo oh mi to for... Nam mo oh mi to for... at the same time I tried my best to pretend that I did not see it. I speed up. my head slightly downward to avoid any contact with it. And I chant faster faster nam mo oh mi tou for...

voow... I drove pass it. And finally... I felt like a survival from something. I could not resist and wanted to make sure I totally had shaked it off. I took a glance to my rear mirror. I saw it turned... She was an auntie. Nam mo oh mi tou for...

Please do not wear full white dress at midnight! It scare people to hell.

Which part of Kampong Bahru? you sure that was auntie or 'auntie'?

Bukit Purmei estate which is just next to the road, if I'm not mistaken used to be a malay cemetery before

And there was a write-up earlier here, saying about a hotel near Vivo had some strange encounters... that hotel is beside the mosque and cemetery?

On this matter, it is very bad luck to activate the toilet overnight. Don't do this at home for too long a period.

This is rather confusing... to leave the toilet lights on? Or switch off?

There's earlier thread saying to leave it on to subtly illuminate the hotel room

Can someone clarify on this?

I always leave the toilet lights on in the hotel but not for home

Oh yes... I never take a room without windows

You may leave the lights on or keep the door(s) shut. It is best to grow some greens in the toilet, so that the greens can reduce the "yin qi" in the toilet/washroom.
