Would You Send A Faulty Hdd And Sd Card For Warranty?

Recommended Posts

Of course you would, right?
If it is under warranty, why not?

But what if the HDD contains your entire collection of homemade porn?

And the SD card an aggregate of that collection?

Would you still send it in?

It is confirmed that both the HDD and SD card cannot be read anymore. Plug it into anywhere and nothing comes out. But still, will they have a tool that I don't that can detect the hardware and read the things that I have inside?

What to do? What to do?

Consider these HDD and SD card burnt, or try and see if I might be famous?

How concern are you about being blackmailed?

How concern are you about being reported to the police?

How concern are you about being the latest feature on stomp or YouTube doing the nasty and with your face so clearly shown?

How concern are you for your family to find out what you do?

How concern are you about jail time for somethign you did that was illegal and you video it?

How concern are you about it's effect on your life in Singapore or possible else where you might want to hide in?

And last but not least... YES if someone with knowledge and has the right tools and know-how, they might be able to salvage your HDD and read it. Scary? You should be scare.

I am not the best expert at this (being a self taught PC tech expert) but I have managed to save some of my HDDs or partial parts of it and salvage what I needed. I have used a computer since 1980s and have crashed and disposed of easily 100 HDDs. Not that I do save any of my sexual acts on HDD and if I kept any porn, they were encrypted for obvious reason or the HDD is lock out of my PC and only connected for viewing.

If I were to encounter a failed HDD or just want to throw an old HDD away, even normal work and personal HDDs, It does not get toss away without a proper scrubbing. I would reformat it at least 1-2 times (NOT Quick Format) erase the partition, open up the HDD after that (with special thread screwdriver - can buy in hardware shop or Sim Lim Sq) and will dismantle the few disc plates inside and scratch them all up with sandpaper or some sharp item to fuck up ALL the disk plates surface from being readable. It is not hard to dismantle a HDD. In fact I have repaired and saved a few with stuck reader heads and got them functioning again. You can find youtube videos on it so easily.

Whatever happen is in your hands. Not my place to tell you about your life decisions or HDD. How hardup are you about salvaging your personal sexual performance video files in the HDD that you are blind to the consequences of your action that you still need people to back you up on the decision to send or not send when I have spell out to you all the shit storm you are going to get if they managed to salvage your data and take a look at them heheh You hoping on hope that they will be gentleman and not say anything and just hand over the repair HDD or data back to you and keep their mouth shut?

I take it you play slave more times then the role of master in BDSM that you can't decide for yourself? heheh Sorry but really you need to wake up and smell the coffee.

The question is: do you want to retrieve the data from the faulty media, or simply get their replacements since they are under warranty? For replacement, the vendor will most probably check if the faulty ones are truly faulty (maybe just plug in to see if the media icon will appear on the desktop), and give you the replacements. I don't think they have the time to poke around your faulty hard disks or SD card.

Yea, that's what I think also. I just want to get a replacement. The files are not important. In fact, I've already deleted them from the faulty HDD before it failed to detect on the PC. These are just a copy. The originals are safe inside a safety deposit box in the Cayman Island.

you do know that deleted files can still be retrieved from your HDD right?

Someone with the sense to know that heheheh... He still not getting it and still not sensing it is a nightmare to be caught and rather risk it.

To have a copy in the "cayman" island? what are you hiding pedophile stuff or you some drug addict with data sensitive info that you need to travel to cayman island like in the movies and TV crime shows to safe guard it? heheheh... some what drama leh.

TO ALL NON SAVVY COMPUTER PEOPLE.....

Let me put this down here for all to take note if you are one of those individuals who like to keep porn photos/video on your computer, your sex acts or photos, worst are those monster into underage porn ( fuck you whoever youmight be) or anything that is sensitive to you personally or for work. It does not matter if you save them on HDD, CF, SD Micro SD card or whatever memory modules.

Deleting the files, formating the drive/card, Repartition the HDD, suffered a crash of any sort ... this MAY NOT help you as there are ways to UNDO your action and retrieve most of your files back! Even a crash HDD can still possible offer up data that is not part of the area which is spoilt.

The way to ensure it does not retain "residue" of deleted files is if you copy over the entire HDD or card with new information. You do this to cover the HDD/card with new information after which you then format. But you HDD/card might have small pockets in them that "might" contain data you did not know as it was partitioned aside or your PC made a cache space hold temporary information but yet might not be deleted but it is still there that is a good chance a smart person will look into those cache to see if you have anything "interesting" inside there. That is why people like me who have sensitive information inside, before I throw it into the rubbish chute, I dismantle the HDD and distroy the physical disk.

If you want to think no one will look at your file like a gentlemen at the PC shops... you forget how many stories of shops finding notti stuff in them from celebrity to normal folks that they can put up to shame them, profit from them or black mail or simple just share it around. Such an exciting thing to do will for sure motivate peole to at least take a peep inside. How hard is it to look at the file extension and see JPG, AVI, MP4...etc.  Once they spot thos telltale file extension, they might be very tempted to take a peep or two. And you better hope that first view or two does not reveal anything scandalous.

You very sure this will not happen. That is fine. I say good luck to you and don't say we never told you so. You want to do all this kind of stuff that society consider illegal or immoral, you are going to hate the day you get caught with your pants down then you have only your unsavvy PC user ass to blame.

Thank you for your comprehensive, albeit condescending advice.

You are clearly someone who has superior complexity with a lack of sense of humour who jumps to conclusions who likes to accuse people of what you think they like to do who are clearly a troll with no understanding of manners or tact.

I have warned myself not be caught up by this kind of attitude and start a flame war, but I guess it cannot be helped. Still, this will not be a flame war because I will no longer follow this topic, so you can say whatever you like.

I started this thread in hopes of a discussion but you clearly made that impossible. Thank you and may this attitude follow you to your grave.

edwardccm had already stated that both his hard disk and SD card are faulty, and he is asking if it is relative safe to get replacement under warranty.

Now if you are the vendor that does warranty exchange, will you break out tools, and spend precious time and resources to try to resurrect the failed media? If I am the vendor, i won't; I will just verified that the media is truly faulty, give the customers their replacements, and sent the faulty ones back to manufacturer.
