My mom forced me to learn when I was 12 which made me hate swimming. That's why I never go swimming all these years and forgot how to swim. This year I decided to learn it all over again. I just did 3 months of basic lessons from Feb to May this year. I can now swim 50m breast stroke but my front crawl is still very weak. I practised for months but still have difficulty swimming more than 25m without stopping. I want to go for intermediate lessons to improve it and also learn other skills.

Was too forced to learn to swim by my mum. But I did not regret it. Earn me some admin time during NS. For your front crawl/freestyle, it might be your strokes are wrong. Do you use the 4 kicks, 1 pull method ?

i think most people who cant swim freestyle for long is due to the legs being tired out from successive moving. unlike breaststroke, where you draw circles with your legs, freestyle is like piakpiakpiakpiak so it gets tiring quicker. i learnt the freestyle myself by swimming the width of the middle pool until i was comfortable.... so yeah.

Lol....

My instructor used to pull me to the side and ask me keep doing the kicks until it glues to my muscle memory then continue to do laps using freestyle.

Every time I freestyle, water get into my ears ~.~

Ear-plug.

I want to learn how to swim too!

The only way I was taught how to swim was being thrown into the pool by my dad and figure out how to swim on my own. I am a very weak swimmer LOL.

When you have conquered your fear of water entering your ears, nose and mouth, you may be able to focus more on moving forward, instead of staying afloat.  Step by step.

i started learning to swim in my 20s and with a personal trainer so i don't have to feel so embarrassed about it. i think it's worth the money even if u just want to learn how to do flips in the pool because the coach will also correct your current strokes, so u can be efficient and faster in the water.

Typically, when a victim realizes that they cannot keep their head above water they tend to panic, leading to the classic “surface struggle”. They gasp for air at the surface and hold their breath as they bob beneath. Struggling to breathe, they can’t call for help. Their bodies are upright, arms weakly grasping, as if trying to climb a non-existent ladder from the sea. Studies with New York lifeguards in the 1950s and 1960s found that this stage lasts just 20 to 60 seconds.
When victims eventually submerge, they hold their breath for as long as possible, typically 30 to 90 seconds. After that, they inhale some water, splutter, cough and inhale more. Water in the lungs blocks gas exchange in delicate tissues, while inhaling water also triggers the airway to seal shut – a reflex called a laryngospasm. “There is a feeling of tearing and a burning sensation in the chest as water goes down into the airway. Then that sort of slips into a feeling of calmness and tranquility,” describing reports from survivors.
That calmness represents the beginnings of the loss of consciousness from oxygen deprivation, which eventually results in the heart stopping and brain death.
