merlinkun
They skipped Windows 9 if anyone is wondering. Though you should take note early review of Windows 10 indicates there is still a bit of bugs left. Also note some older programs and apps might not work on Windows 10; some features also be removed in Windows 10: http://asia.pcmag.com/operating-systems-and-platforms-reviews-and-price/3837/feature/6-features-disappearing-in-windows-10-and-how-to-r Quote https://merlinsfolio.wordpress.com/ https://medium.com/@merlincheng "On the Internet, no one knows you are a cat." Firday
I can wait since I m comfortable with the window 7, 8, and 8.1...so sort of not in hurry. I will change if the older version shut down like window xp. Since nowadays we spend so much time on mobile and less on desktop...don't see in a hurry to update. I prefer to maintain the daily routine unless window 10 got more to give. In short...I dun see any change yet ..for me.
merlinkun
Windows 10 is free upgrade for 1 year only though. So you have plenty of time to choose to upgrade. Best to wait for reviews before deciding. Great if you mainly use Windows Phone or Tablet though since it is more integrated.. upshot
Reserved mine and being a window user almost all my life, looking forward to it. Not every one will get it free, I happen to have two computers with paid versions of Windows 8.1 Professional. But my notebook which is 8.1 but is a OEM so it does not qualify for free. Give me a chance to play with it so can't wait. I never had any big problems unlike some of the critics of the Windows especially the 8.1. Windows XP and Windows 7 ( home and Pro) were rock solid. They have been very stable and I love the interface though many don't. I switch between the desktop and the metro screen with ease. Updating your system's application, 3rd party drivers..etc are very important to ensuring your system remain stable and taking the time to get familar with it does help a lot. But then I love tech and getting behind the scene. Maybe people hate change (thus you have people who don't change OS ( I have friends still using XP believe or not ) or those who buy iphone/mac as they keep the interface, look and feel similar year in year out are not willing to learn new ways of interfacing with technology but ya.. waiting with anticipation. I had the beta version to try but never got around to installing it when I was considering building another gaming rig. Edited June 6, 2015 by upshot Quote ** Comments are my opinions, same as yours. BranLim
I just did the upgrade. It's still pretty raw (general feel) but it is a hybrid between Windows 7 and 8.1. Best of both worlds and intuitive to use. I especially like the user interface.
upshot
Who upgraded from windows8 to Windows10?My only problem is I lose my internet, Seem it happen with some people. After upgrading the Ethernet stops working entirely. Myrouter whoich has wireless was still working as my notebook and phone can still tap the wireless. But my PC use Ethernet to connect to the route for internet. That one failed so no internet at all. Some claim Anti Virus but I know that is not the case for my system. Ethernet driver is up to date... so had to rollback my window 10 to 8.1 again to trouble shoot or wait to see if there are any work around for it beyond those I have tried.I like a good challenge heheh... was worry it would be a smooth upgrade and nothing to screw around with heheh.. Anyone facing this? I know my Sony VAIO has send out a notice to all owners to hold back on upgrade till Oct or Nov 2015. This is because there are many special functions that is design by Sony to work with my Win 8.1 so they need to make sure that they have run all the test needed to make sure the new Win 10 does not screw up with what they programmed. I think that is fair. For all those with their notebook and other devices that uses special hardware.. should check that everything is up to date to take on the upgrading to minimize problems. Apart from the internet issue.. the new OS is very good... snappy in some areas and I love that they keep part of the metro app portion which unlike others, I love it. Window 10 so far is really good. Good move onm MS Windows' part. Edited August 6, 2015 by upshot Quote ** Comments are my opinions, same as yours. It's not a 'Be-All-and-End-All' view. upshot
Just upgraded to Window 10. Rock solid now. Finally found the solution to my Ethernet issue which failed Once I have upgraded Win 10. In case this happen to others, where your Ethernet fail to work which result in you not having internet access you can try going to INTEL to download a special driver updating program to use after you have upgraded to Win 10. Link: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/22283/Intel-Ethernet-Connections-CD%29 Run the program and even before you reboot, you will see your internet coming back online. The irony is when you do a routine check on your Ethernet drive to see if it is the latest, the check will come back as yes your drive is up-to-date. But it is not. For some reason the checking you do before you upgrade is not correct. So download and keep this drive updating s/w from INTEl to force the update and you should have your WIN 10 up and running Very easy.. I love Win 10 as it is the fastest installation I have every done. There was a time even Window XP can take more then one hour or longer depending on what setting, driver..etc issue. And usually you need to do a CLEAN INSTALL. I did mine with a full of other s/ws from graphic design to gaming to office, video..etc. and they are all working fine after the installation change of OS.Once I solve the Ethernet part.... WIN 10 is rock solid on my self built gaming rig.Love it. Edited August 6, 2015 by upshot Quote ** Comments are my opinions, same as yours. It's not a 'Be-All-and-End-All' view. Still running on Windows 7 on my system. Any sharing about Windows 10 is much appreciated. if you have windows 8 , i suggest you too upgrade to windows 10 , because windows 10 is supposed what windows 8 should do , convenient and simplified , in windows 10 , you don;t have the ugly store page any longer when you log in to your desktop , it's all super in one , if you have windows 7 , i suggest not to upgrade it , but this is all up to you, this is a suggestion , and no upgrading now wont cause any application issues like running programmes wont work and stuff , you can always upgrade now and revert back to your default windows by one month time. if you are not happy with windows 10 , I upgraded mine myself as well Look ! Butterscotch
I upgraded my office laptop to Windows 10 last week. So far okay, though I only had a day to play around with it. I love the interface (Metro is gorgeous) but the main problem I kept experiencing on that day was my Windows Explorer randomly shutting down and restarting itself. It makes copying and pasting a hassle. Will monitor the situation again when I am back in the office this week.

Everything went well. Nice Win10 interface and was able to login. A window popped asking to configure/optimize the graphic settings. Happily did that and system restarted. Back to Win 10 login page, entered my password and then hell broke loose. All that I got was a black screen with only a mouse cursor visible. It seems this is a common problem but nothing solid out from google to resolve the issue. Anyone encountered same problem and managed to resolve it? Butterscotch
Alright so update: It has been three weeks since I upgraded the OS on my office laptop to Windows 10 and so far it has been fine. IkuTube
Guys... stick with windows 7.. windows 10 is buggy as hell.. Probably right. Waiting a little longer is, probably, good. Looking back at my problem, post #29, I have this strong feeling that the upgrade fried my modem. Soon after Win10 was installed, I had intermittent network lost even though all lights on the Modem showed to be OK. After rebooting the Modem, internet resumed. I got my ISP to change the modem. Strangely, the Modem worked well, immediate network connection to all other computers but I had to install a new driver to the computer that I installed Win10 previously. It's really puzzling. upshot
! year. Which by today I think less then that now. Think it starts from 1st Aug 2015. Should check with your notebook maker to see it if is ready. I have installed my PC but not my Sony Vaio as they told me to wait till Oct/Nov/ as they are testing it and making sure their own inter-grated codes are working fine with Win10. My computer is built by myself and has no special coded I use totally alien to Win 10 so no problem but my Sony VAIO has some special s/w written to control certain hardware thus they have to tackle those codes in case WIN10 can not work with them. Guest win 7 user
If it ain't broke, don't fix it - ah, so much the truth Contrary to that dictum, Microsoft is fixing what ain't broken, otherwise how to make money. Windows 10 is free because they are using you as "testers" and you lose your privacy. When it is proven to be working fine, they'll charge charging. As a rule of the thumb, upgrade only from 8 or 8.1 but not 7. 7 is here to stay till 2020, I think. I'll cross the bridge only when I get to it.
