Recommended Posts

Jayden here, my 2nd year alone trip to Taiwan, apart from meeting up Taiwanese friends, would be good to have some1 from Singapore for companionship too.

I'm flying 21-28 Oct. Will be staying Qstay half of the time and Inntouch another half (Well... they are not fully available throughout my trip period:( )

Can pm me if interested.

Azimuth... the tickets are sold out liao...

Not surprised, same story last year :)

People usually buy those early birds tickets because they are much cheaper... buying them at full price is just so expensive...

But hey, there are lots of other parties to go to, clubs, bars, etc... those big circuit parties are not the only events during that weekend :) Plus, the crowd is always the same as Songkran or those big parties in HK.... so yeah...

Shall we do a summary of who is going, when and which flight?

Just copy and paste the below and add your username next to it. Could be nice to be sitting together to chit chat during the flight, especially if it's a budget airline with no entertainment haha.

I'm not going to put all the dates, maybe just the most common ones, which are Friday and Saturday. Will do another post for the return flights on Sunday or Monday.

And only direct flights, otherwise there are millions of flights :P

Shouldn't you be putting your seat number so that the person know is you when in the plane?

Seat numbers can change... airlines can change your pre-set seat (yes they can), or those who booked budget might have taken the option without seat assignment to save another buck or two. Seat assignments should be discussed at online check-in between the interested parties I guess?

I agree. There must be much more to a holiday than just partying. Heh. Maybe some shopping would be nice too.

Maybe I am biased because my parents are from southern taiwan. taipei is fun and there are more bars and clubs to go to but I prefer Tainan and kaohsiung much more. They have a more authentic feel.

I had a few days last year after the parade to explore the quieter side of Taiwan.

And yes, the southern part is as attractive and interesting as the northern part.

KaoHsiung is a MUST visit place.  The city is developing and there is so much of OLD world charm there.

I like the 人情味。

I agree with you. Taipei is just where everyone goes to. Hence, there is more human traffic and commercialization.

If there is a chance, I will love to explore the nature side of Taiwan as well.

Yes I agree. Kaohsiung is under marketed by the Tourism board too.

When I was there last year, my group met a volunteer museum guide (a married retiree without children). After chit chatting and knowing our visit, he hosted us for the next 4 days driving us around to all the lesser known places and to/fro Tainan.

He even paid for our makan at local eatery and buffet at hotel. All which we tried to pay or pay without his knowledge, and failed terribly. He insisted as host, he would pay for everything. Even for payments which we have already made, he got the cashier to return us the money and he pays for it.

Whichever city that we next visit, he tries to get his friends to host us.

That is how hospitable Taiwanese are. :-)

Nice to know that there are still good souls around. :-)

Now I need to start looking for someone to pay for my lunch and dinner in Taipei. Lol.

I ever considered to ticket myself on a Cathay flight but I reckon the extra transit time wasn't my cup of tea,

Heh. I hope you are stopping for a day or two in HK since you are already there. :)

Yup, a direct flight is always better. But my initial intention was to go to HK only and decided to swing by Taipei for the weekend :)

Direct flights are good but for Taiwan, Cathay Pacific is offering so many different options that it's worth saving (compared to SQ) and indulge in a short stop over in HKG :)

I'm doing that on my way to Tokyo next week, can't wait hehe

I still rem the days when we did not have as many budget options for Taipei which was served only by a handful of legacy carriers. CX is really pricing aggressively for HK and beyond via SIN. I paid about S$500 for HK/Taipei :)

Have a good trip to Tokyo (perhaps consider MH instead of CX next time? Heard it's also a decent indirect option).

Yeah I agree. CX is beginning to become quite aggressive lately with credit card tie ups and what not. Hong Kong is also a nice stop over destination with the airport express connecting you conveniently to town.

I'd rather do a stop over or a transit in HKG than KUL to be honest :)

Plus, you're kinda flying "backwards" if your final destination is Taiwan, losing a bit more time.

CX can be super cheap, $500 more or less from SIN to TPE or HKG. Very restrictive booking class but once you're decided... why not? SQ is just crazy with $1000-1500....

I agree. I always wonder why it's so expensive with SQ. High demand vs their inability to add more flights perhaps?

Oh I meant SIN-KUL-NRT on MH, not TPE. But yes, I agree KUL is nowhere as desirable as a transit airport as HKG :)

I wonder how long can CX sustain with this sort of pricing...

I am seeking a travel partner for a trip on 17-21 Oct. Free and easy. Don't have to stick together all the time if independence is preferred...

Been to TW before but would like to have a likeminded companion. PM me if you are keen.

I'm departing on 17... Probably pass each other at airport

Lol. Enelym is our resident high flier. :-)

Wondering if Enelym is attached. With all the frequent solo trips, perhaps not attached. Or maybe Enelym has boyfriends in each of the cities he flies to. Too much distractions to be willing to settle down perhaps? Or perhaps still waiting for the perfect guy to appear?

Haha. Unfortunately, this thread is on Taiwan and not Enelym. You can either create one in the Personals section or PM him directly for answers. :-)

They only have limited seats at those prices... they are used to attract your attention and once you're there, you see fares at $600-$800 and you will still go for them, cuz still cheaper than SQ for example :)

Yield management :) same goes for hotels.

Anyone interested for a hot spring escapade during that Pride weekend? while all those hardcore circuit boys are sleeping lol?

Enelym seems like a friendly and easy going guy. Tempted to book a trip to Taiwan just to join in the hot spring escapade with him. Unfortunately the notice is a too short to be able to go.
