That Nasi Lemak cake is so lame, I'll bet those molecular gastronomist can come up with a version more cake like rather than just rearranging the ingredients into a cake form.

Well in SG, how about Chilli Crab Cheese Cake, Chicken Rice Cheese Cake ... :|

I think its really overrated, just good marketing and packaging, quite expensive going for like ~$26 per roll.

Its nothing new, there are videos on youtube on how to make them, just need to put in a little bit more effort.

Btw anyone know of any good Black Forest Cake and Tiramisu at a more affordable rate?

For BFC, I use to like Sweet Secret's mousse version but since they closed many outlets, its a little hard to find. I like Da Paolo's BFC and Tiramisu, but their price increase over the years is quite ridiculous, like $9 for a small cup, $14 for a larger tub. Now Awfully Chocolate also introduced a Tiramisu in a mason jar, but ridiculously priced at ~$19+.

Black forest please get Pine garden's, they are using rummed black cherries, not those red ugly tasting cherries. Between layers of cakes, theres also rummed cherries in it, really worth for money!

Tiramisu, please get from Swee Heng 1989... their tiramisu is good! Not the normal swee heng, but Swee Heng 1989 at shopping malls, e.g. Star Vista and JP.

Alternatively u can try this tiramisu specialist at Chinatown. They are good, comes with Lychee Tiramisu as well.

Hope that helps!

Thanks, have a Swee Heng around my neighbourhood, so far they only have the whole tiramisu cake. Think I saw the 1989 at the new Tampines Hub, will give them a try.

kueh salat cake from mc café anyone tried?

https://www.mcdonalds.com.sg/our-brands/mccafe-brand/

Actually isn't being a kueh almost like a cake oreidi? Not very innovative I find. I tried the Pandan Coco Frappe though, a bit sweet but not bad.

The Nasi Lemak burger also a bit funny, no nasi.

it is about recreation....

alternatively the lemak burger could drop the term Nasi , if not changed to rice burgers like those served in MOS burger

There are a lot of things that don't include the ingredients in its name, that's why it's "inspired by". There are also nasi lemak cakes, cookies and icecream.

yes, I rem the nasi lemak cake, that is really an acquired taste for me, Eujiboo (pronounced as yuji, I trust)

cos if I would to eat a nasi lemak thing I wouldn't spend effort on a nasi lemak cake when I could just grab a packet of nasi lemak

but if I  feel like having burger/cake, (burgers w so many options), a nasi lemak burger/cake is fine too cos I m eating a burger/cake , the overall feel must still be eating a real cake/burger w feel/scent of lemak

if the thing ended  up looks and tasted exactly 101% like a nasi lemak (after I opened up the burger/cake box that contained it) , I think it will be better to eat a pack of nasi lemak instead - > which is why I don't even dare to taste the nasi lemak cake

Went there 2 weeks back. Tried their matcha drink & beef burger.  The drink came in a very small cup & the burger came with soggy bacon strips. Would rate it 4/10 in terms of food, service & price

Thanks for the revert on matcha curry. Will keep a lookout in my next trip to Japan.

Surprise to hear that you could take slimmy yam but not nato. I am the reverse .

Maybe slimmy reminded me of something........?

anyway alot mentioned that the Maccha house or matcha hse at the 313 is really not even authentic to begin with!

u really love Matcha?! me too........and jp stuff too

When r u goin to japn, i m wondering when it will open up for Pure Free&Ez, i hardly see u posting at the jp thread:
it is so dead now

Didn’t know Matcha House at 313 is being mentioned in BW.  Their deco & presentation have attracted me there.

I love matcha & most recently, hojicha.  In Singapore, it is very difficult to find cakes which comes with high concentration of matcha cream. It is much more common in Japan but of course, it does not come cheap. Only problem I have when eating them is, I cannot have them after 3pm, else I will be awake throughout the night.

As to the thread about Japan, as it hardly mention about food, scenery or onsen. So there is not much I could participate.

I thought TB cafe are more popular because of their breads? More specifically sourdough, or am I wrong? They are also on the high end side. A simple chocolate eclair is S$9.5   (Frankly I can at least eat 2 meals with that)

OK. The price is slightly high compare to normal HDB Bakeries. Tiong Bharu got the name.... their pastries mostly that we can make at home.

Life is short! Don't wait for the last minute to do what you like to do! Just do it!

Actually these days the hdb estate bakeries are equally expensive. Good old days one piece of cake is less than a dollar. These days it’s at least $3 and size can also be much smaller. I think BreadT started a bad trend of having buns at over a dollar fifty cents, thereafter everyone started. 2 buns is almost equivalent to a bowl of noodles and not as filling.
