The Feng Shui Of Money

Is there such a thing as the Money of a country affecting its wealth feng shui?
Is there any relationship between how a country’s paper money looks and the wealth the country generates? Surely symbols incorporated into the design of currencies must have an effect on the way the country moves forward or backward economically. Central Bankers of the world probably scoff at such an idea… and yet in the old days, coins used as mediums of exchange were always made auspicious, most notably containing the heaven and earth symbols of circle and square.

In this issue, FSW does some research into the currency designs of the Dollar, the Euro, the Pound sterling, the Russian rouble, the Chinese Yuan, the Japanese yen and the Singapore dollar... and because we live here in Malaysia, we also take a look at the Malaysian Ringgit …

Some of the stronger currencies of the world (although of course they fluctuate in value) include the United States dollar, the Euro, the British pound, the Singapore dollar, the Australian dollar, the Russian rouble, the Canadian dollar, the Chinese renminbi and before the advent of the Euro, we also had the Swiss Franc and the German mark. Every one of these currencies has a signature sign which itself has luck connotations.

In the period of 7 the US dollar was strong and this is a currency whose signature sign has an S with two vertical standing lines viz $… but the US dollar has been declining in value for several years now, from since the period changed from 7 to 8 and now other currencies that have signature signs that have either S, Y, (all cut with two horizontal lines appear to be challenging the US dollar. We saw the rise of the pound sterling, and until recently the all-powerful Euro. Now we see the rise of the Chinese Yuan, and of course the Japanese yen seems to stay strong in spite of horrible things happening to its Economy!

Feng shui experts will be quick to explain to you that the horizontal lines symbolize the powerful chien trigram. Horizontal solid lines are indications of strength, yang chi and great resilience, and it is not surprising that currencies which have this as their identifying feature tend to have greater resilience. Think of the yen, the yuan, the Euro and even the pound sterling!

 

CHINA’S STRONG FENG SHUI THEME

Most countries have strong themes that run through the design of their currencies and these usually reflect some symbol, activity or hero strongly identified with the country. The use of beloved leaders is a popular theme. So the modern Chinese renminbi has a picture of Chairman Mao, but also take note that while all the notes have his picture, they also carry aerial shots that symbolize protection, wealth creation and strong central government. Its most popular note the 10 Yuan note is green in colour, signifying growth, but it also has an amazing aerial shot of the Lijiang River strategically photographed to show the river widening. This is an incredibly auspicious image and with the 10 Yuan note having amazingly high circulation as it passes from hand to hand, surely this note brings excellent feng shui to the Chinese Economy!

In fact, on the reverse side of all its notes, capitalist China has selected scenes of spectacular water – on the 20 renminbi note is the famed Lijiang River, on the 5 and 10 renminbi notes are its other famous rivers, the Yellow River and the Yangze, and on its 50 renminbi note is a spectacular picture of a waterfall.

As all feng shui enthusiasts know, the river is the most efficient bringer of wealth. All the great cities of the world were founded at the mouth of great rivers. That China should choose water as its major symbol to signify its money must surely be very good feng shui indeed.

To the Chinese of course, a view of a river, or of water, always signifies wealth, and when water widens and expands, it means extreme wealth.

Showing a mighty river flowing to signify money signifies the country’s wealth. It should not be surprising that since the early 80’s when these new currency notes came into widespread usage after Deng Xioa Ping declared “to be rich is glorious”, China has had double digit growth  and indeed is today the wealthiest country in the world!

But more than wealth is safety and security, which is symbolized by the Great Wall of China, an ancient heritage structure built to protect the country from overland invaders. Today, the Great Wall symbolizes China’s security. This note has a couple of young Chinese on one side and the Great Wall on the other, signifying the ordinary people of China. And the high denomination renminbi note is red in colour. This too has Chairman Mao on one side, but on the other side, we see a picture of the Great Hall of the people in Tiananmen Square. This symbolizes the strength of China’s Central Government.

By analyzing the images on its currency, we can deduce the attributes that are important to China - strong Government, strong security and strong wealth - all of which China has today! Definitely in this case, we can see symbolic feng shui at work here. But there is more of course, because there are also other 100 Yuan notes that feature the mighty Dragon and yet more notes that feature the other great river of China, the Yangtze Kiang. Water and Dragon - two of the most potent symbols of wealth and success!

HONG KONG'S AUSPICIOUS NOTES Over in Hong Kong, the currency notes of this city state were issued by the major banks operating there prior to 1997 and these continued to be used after China took over the colony. Then, the twenty dollar note issued by StanChart featured the Dragon Tortoise, while that issued by HSBC featured its famous lions and the star ferry. The StanChart 500 dollar bill features the awesome Phoenix, while the HSBC issued 500 dollar bill again carried the two lions and its building. These notes were very auspicious indeed and Hong Kong in those years was very prosperous. In recent years however, its fortunes have been overshadowed by Shanghai and Beijing. China's currencies and its Economies appear to be doing as well as if not better than Hong Kong !

WHAT ABOUT THE UNITED STATES?
In recent years, the USA seems to be sliding… two unpopular wars and its fight against terrorism seem to have distracted this great country. Worse, it has also suffered severe financial meltdowns caused by scandals and major bank collapses that seem to have shaken the USA to its roots.

Things really went downhill after the attack on its twin towers in New York. To the Chinese feng shui enthusiasts, the twin towers represented the eyes of the country, and with New York being its financial capital, after the twin towers were brought down, it does seem like the US, now blinded, sort of lost its way - especially financially.

The US currency is known worldwide as the greenback because irrespective of the denominated amount, all US dollar notes are green in colour. Note that green denotes young Yang Wood element, which in turn signifies growth. The USA continues to grow and grow and it has become the world’s super power, and even with all its troubles today, it continues to be respected as a superpower, feared by others and still taking the lead as the world’s innovator. It also owns the world’s largest arsenal of weapons and bombs!

All its currencies feature its past presidents. Its most widely circulated note is the one dollar bill which features George Washington, the first president on one side. On the reverse side, we see the American eagle and the pyramid with an eye at the top of the pyramid. The eagle is like the phoenix – symbolizing untold opportunities, bravery and courage. The pyramid and the single eye above it is the ultimate symbol of protection. It reminds us of the magical eye of Horus. It is also a protection against the envy of others. Very powerful feng shui indeed!

The two dollar note (not as widely circulated) features Jefferson on one side, while the five dollar note (which is more widely used) has Abraham Lincoln. Behind is the Lincoln memorial, which of course symbolizes freedom and equality.

The twenty dollar note features Jackson on one side and the White House on the other. The hundred dollar bill has Benjamin Franklin… so one can see that the United States places emphasis on its leaders, although this only started around the 1900s.

Does the US dollar have good feng shui? The answer has to be a resounding yes. Despite the ups and downs of its economy, the USA is still the most powerful and important country in the world. Its currency though battered continues to be the most widely used currency of the world.

What is interesting about the US dollar bills are its hidden codes and meanings.

These notes have not been redesigned since the 1900s, so much of the meanings of its symbols require research.
Nevertheless, one interesting thing some of us noticed is that the symbols on the $20 does show the twin towers of 9/11 burning when folded in a particular way. It is quite uncanny actually, and those of you curious enough to check this out might want to try!  Other symbols on each of the US dollar bills suggest hidden codes and meanings as well.

The British pound uses the Queen’s image and a variety of auspicious symbols. The Queen is herself a lucky image as she is shown in full regalia wearing her tiara and jewels, so the matriarchal energy is very strong. If we examine the ten-pound note (which is the most highly used) there is a bird image which looks like a woodpecker. The bird is a very auspicious symbol, bringing luck and new opportunities. The woodpecker is a hardworking bird that is also creative. There is also a ship sailing towards the user and this has to be incredibly lucky. There is a picture of Charles Darwin, one of their greatest scientists and the propounder of  the theory of evolution. There is also a round mirror. So you can see that Britain has some very important enhancing symbols on their pound note.

Singapore money used to be full of wonderfully auspicious images. Fish, birds, dragons and ships of all kinds used to feature on the Singapore dollar notes, but in recent years, Singapore’s paper currency notes were given a fresh new look. During the years when Singapore was toasted as the economic miracle of the world, its currency notes were amazingly brilliant and beautiful. Every denomination had a fish of some kind, as well as a ship, and its fifty-dollar note even featured a dragon looking down at the mouth of the Singapore River (see bottom picture). These are auspicious symbols.

All the previous notes used to have fish on them. Fish signify abundance and it should not come as a surprise to anyone to know that the per capita income of this small nation state is one of the highest in the world. The Dragon meanwhile is the ultimate auspicious symbol according to feng shui. And ships bring wealth from the winds and waters.

Shown above are the old (top) and the new (bottom) two dollar notes. Note the difference. A sailing junk brings prosperity from the winds and waters. The new note has no such auspicious symbol.

In its newer notes, the Singapore currency features its first past president on one side and a variety of aspiration scenes on the other side. For instance, on the fifty-dollar note, the Arts are highlighted with musical instruments, on the ten-dollar note Sports are featured and on the two dollar note Education is highlighted with a picture of one of its schools.

It does appear that aspirations other than wealth acquisition are being stressed.  And believe it or not, since those new notes came into circulation, Singapore has thrived as an Arts and Cultural center to challenge the best of any place else in the world. From musicals to concerts, rock shows, ballets and even operas, Singapore has become the most sophisticated city in this part of the world.

What is interesting is that all the new notes still carry the Pa Kua symbol which is a powerful symbol of protection! So security continues to be high on the list of Singapore’s priorities.

Many of the Commonwealth countries feature the British Queen thus replicating the powerful matriarchal energy. New Zealand money features the Queen on one side and all kinds of birds on the other. Shown here on its twenty dollar bill is the bird that is native to new Zealand, the karearea – very auspicious indeed.

Malaysian ringgit - here in Malaysia, the currency features the country’s first king in all his regalia. His majesty wears an eleven-pointed star and a moon of jewels, so this is most auspicious indeed. On the reverse side, the Malaysian currency notes feature cargo ships loaded with cargo, planes and trains on its ten dollar bill. As this is the most widely used bill, these symbols of the country’s progress are excellent feng shui. The fifty-dollar note shows a port scene, while the hundred ringgit bill features a car assembly plant. The Malaysian notes are thus down-to-earth symbols of industrial progress.

Indonesian Rupiah bills seem to be devoid of auspicious symbols.  On their 5000 rupiah note, they feature a old member of royalty on one side and an old building on the other. On their 1000 rupiah bill, we see again an old member of a royal family on one side and a building on the other. The notes seem to dwell very much on the past and are sadly lacking in yang energy. Maybe that is why the country has not progressed much. Perhaps a change in their currency appearance might help lift the country out of its many difficulties.

Canadian bills are similar to Kiwi money in that the British Queen is featured on one side and all kinds of birds on the other side. The twenty dollar note shows the Queen (alas sans crown but wearing pearls) on one side and a pair of what looks like ducks on the other side. Very romantic feng shui indeed. The five dollar note on the other hand has Laurier instead of the Queen on one side and a kingfisher on the other.

Nepal and India also do not have any auspicious symbols on their currencies.

South Africa rands feature their wild animals, the large cats, the zebras and the rhinos. These animals however each symbolize various protective qualities according to feng shui and are thus said to be auspicious. South Africa can be said to be very blessed in that it has wise leadership and a pretty good economy compared with other African nations. It has Nelson Mandela, the wonderfully inspiring black leader who has captured the respect of the world. Its currency is protective in symbolism.

France shows its inventors and tourist spots on its currency.Austria features its leaders and buildings. Greece features Plato and its many legends which include ships and heroines. Spain features its heroes and its architectural buildings.Playing the stock market requires luck as much as financial knowledge, and it is a whole different dimension to the management of your money. We will talk about this another time but for now focus attention on steadily improving your financial situation.


Finally a word on birds
At last count, we discovered well over 30 countries whose currency notes feature the bird. Pictures of some of these currencies are shown here and it is useful to see that the countries that use the bird are not fairing badly at all. The bird brings good news and good opportunities and like the Phoenix, its symbolic king, they communicate good tidings and are excellent for fulfilling your wishes and bringing happiness to everyone. Birds also signify family harmony and goodwill, and open up opportunities for growth, progress and expansion.

In addition to Canada and New Zealand, the list of countries that feature birds on their paper currencies include Trinidad, United Arab Emirate, Tahiti, Sweden, Seychelles, Papua New Guinea, Lithuania, Kuwait, Japan, Columbia, Bermuda, Bangladesh, Cameroons, Brazil, Bulgaria, Yugoslavia, Zambia, Germany,  Falklands Islands, Czechoslovakia, Switzerland, Sri Lanka, Netherlands, Antilles, Mauritius, Madagascar, Denmark, Finland, Albania, Zambia, Algeria, Iceland, Lithuania and Gibraltar. Other popular and auspicious images favoured by many of the lesser known Economies include ships, airplanes and landmark buildings.

The Feng Shui of the Flower Horn

 

The Flower Horn or Hua Luo Han has been touted as the feng shui fish for the coming period of 8 (beginning in 2004), just as the arowana had been dubbed the feng shui fish for the present period of 7 (which began in 1984). It is said to bring its owner lots of prosperity luck and good fortune in everything ranging from wealth and fame to love and happiness.

Developed through selective crossbreeding in 1996, the popularity of the Flower Horn has been gaining momentum by the day. The origins of this hybrid fish can be traced from the Cichlid family, which is classified under the genus of Cichlasoma.
The Kua or trigram for the period of 8 is Ken, which among other things, symbolizes the mountain and the earth element. The Flower Horn’s most important distinguishing feature – its nuchal hump, which protrudes from its forehead– is said to simulate the mountain. This fleshy hump combined with its muscular bulk contributes to its overall squarish profile, which solidly reflects the earth element.

 

The current feng shui cycle is the Period of 7, which is governed by the Kua or trigram of Tui symbolizing Metal. The graceful arowana, with its body shaped like the blade of a sword and its pearly sheen, attests to the metallic attributes of the trigram.

Another distinctive trait of the Flower Horn would be its black coloured side markings, which develop as the fish matures. These side markings are said to resemble lucky numbers or Chinese calligraphy or even Arabic wordings. Well-developed adult fish with exceptional markings could well sell for hundreds of thousands of dollars. Some Flower Horn have reddish pink side markings that are heart-shaped; these are said to bring excellent luck in love.

Currently the most popular fish among fish hobbyists and aquarium specialists, the Flower Horn or Hua Luo Han should be displayed prominently in public areas of your home or office to invite prosperity and good luck into your lives.

Repaired Broken Jade Bangle - Is It Ok to Wear?

	I own an heirloom white jade bangle with bats on it. The jade broke in clean equal halves some time ago as I was trying to put it on. I’ve since glued it back together using jewellery glue and it looks like new. Unless you scrutinize it, you can’t tell that it was broken. Is it OK to still wear this jade? Would it bring me bad luck if I wear it?

For the Chinese, having a good name and reputation is probably one of the most important qualities. When you have a reputation for being honorable, honest, trustworthy, loyal and possessing great integrity, you are said to be a superior man.

Nowhere are the attributes of the Superior Man more eloquently expressed than in the I-Ching, the Book of Changes, perhaps the greatest classic to have survived the centuries in China, now being popularized int he West. Both Taoism and Confucianism derive much of their philosophy from this great text. Feng Shui also draws from the teachings of the I-Ching, and indeed, much of feng shui interpretation is based on the meanings attributed to the trigrams, the three-lined symbols which feature so prominently in feng shui analysis.

These trigrams are the root symbols of the I-Ching's 64 hexagram symbols.

There are of course many other schools of feng shui which can help bring you fame and recognition, such as flying star feng shui (which depends on the natal chart of your house and the time period in question), eight aspirations feng shui (which relies on the placement of physical enhancers in your fame corner) and symbolic feng shui (again making use of feng shui ornaments, shapes and design).

But even if you cannot change the position of your front door, paint the South of your house red, or find suitable symbols to use, all you eed to tap your personal lucky directions is a compass.

Hang Windchimes to Attract Fame and Popularity

 

How do we attract fame and popularity into our lives? The solution lies in hanging windchimes in the South corner of a home or living-room. Contrary to popular beliefs, hanging windchimes in the home DO NOT attract naughty ghosts or spirits! In fact, windchimes are good enhancing tools that can help boost your popularity!
Windchimes can be made of bamboo, copper or stainless steel rods hung in groups of eight or five. The type of rods used must be hollow to allow Chi to be chanelled upwards. The swaying movement of the windchimes produces light, tinkling sounds. These sounds enable the accumulation of good Chi to settle which in turn welcomes fame luck into the home. Consider the following tips if you decide to hang windchimes to create auspicious energies in your home:

1) The material of the windchime

Choose the windchime material according to the element which rules that particular corner. Thus, it follows that Metal windchimes are best suited for the West, Northwest and North corners. Use ceramic windchimes for the Southwest, Northeast and Center sectors of the home. Hang wooden windchimes such as bamboo in the South, East or Southeast corners. The fire element is in the South while the East and Southeast corners represent the wood element. As wood feeds fire in the productive cycle, hanging wooden windchimes will activate fame luck in the South. Hanging metal windchimes in the wood corners is to be avoided at all costs since metal destroys wood.

2) The number of rods in a windchime

The best number of rods to have in a windchime is 6, 7, 8 or 9. However, take note that the number of rods used has different effects on luck. Use 6 or 8 rods if you want to add a dash of luck in your mundane lives. If you want to chase bad luck away, 5 is most suitable.

3) The purpose of hanging a windchime

Activating Your Fame Corner

 

Are you feeling unappreciated and your efforts unacknowledged in a career where fame, recognition and a good reputation are essential for success?

Make your fire of fame burn bright by energizing the fire element of the south, the fame corner. One of the best and easiest methods is to use bright lights - spotlights, crystal chandeliers and twinkling lights. Lights signify valuable yang energy and so they are especially potent. Just be sure that they are white, yellow or red, which are yang colours, and not yin colours like blue or black.

The colour red is particularly effective in activating the recognition factor. Everyday objects with red as their dominant colour can also be displayed in the south. These include soft furnishings such as upholstery, lampshades, drapes, bedspreads, rugs and carpets.

You can also use objects of the fire element to energize the fame (south) corner of your home. A fireplace is an exceptionally good way to do this, and its effects are especially evident during winter months when there is a great deal of yin energy present; when the warm, bright, cheery yang energy is most needed. In tropical countries where there is no practical need for a fireplace, other objects can be used to represent the fire element.

Since wood produces fire in the productive cycle, both wood and fire motifs can be incorporated into the interior decoration of rooms in the south part of the home, or on walls in the south side of a room. The wood element is best stimulated with plants, either live or artificial. Pine cones, banzai trees or other plants can be used for this.
 

You can also light red candles, hang a painting with red as the dominant colour or a photograph frame made of wood in this corner as they would be excellent supplements to the fire element.

The Exuberant, Fiery Horse - Your Ticket to Fame

 

Does your profession require you to be well known and easily recognized? Are you or do you aspire to be a politician, model, singer, actor, writer, sportsman, or any other public figure? Well, here are some pointers that may help you along the way to achieving the fame you desire!

According to the Pa Kua of the Later Heaven Arrangement, the trigram that represents fame, recognition and reputation is Li, placed in the South. This means that the southern wall or corner of any home or room is the fame corner. The ruling element of the south is fire.

To energize the fame corner and activate opportunities for becoming famous and widely respected, place something that symbolizes fire in the south: bright lights, sun motifs, red-coloured objects and anything else that suggests this element.

You may also use objects that symbolize the wood element, as in the productive cycle, fire is produced by wood, so wood is said to be good for it. Avoid the water element as water destroys fire.
 

An excellent and most appropriate symbol to place in the South is an image of the horse. In Feng Shui, the horse whose natural element is fire, is the seventh creature of the Chinese zodiac. It is favorably regarded as one of the animals that exude Yang energy and its representative direction on the zodiac is the South.

The horse is also one of the precious animals included in the mandala offering to Buddha. It's emblematic of nobility, class and a comfortable lifestyle, and stands for speed and perseverance.
 

When the horse is depicted laden with valuables such as gold ingots, pearls, precious stones, gold coins, etc, it is particularly precious and represents the aspiration of a comfortable life and the attainment of high rank, which brings recognition and a life of ease and luxury.

Another type of horse that is good for display is the tribute horse, which the Chinese always associate with gifts given to emperors and other powerful court officials - the tribute horse has been associated with gifts brought by the vanquished to the victors. Thus, if you're involved in a competitive situation, use a painting or sculpture with the tribute horse as the subject to bring you victory luck.

If you cannot find such an image, look for something that shows a precious horse (preferably white) that is being led and not ridden by an official. This symbolizes upward mobility and promotion, and is very auspicious indeed.
 

The horse is best placed in the living and family areas, but never in the bedrooms. Also, do not display a horse that is rearing up, particularly if it's directly behind you or directly confronting you, as this may cause you accidents and physical problems related to the limbs. Instead, get a statuette or painting of a horse or horses that are in non-threatening postures.

Some wonderful images of auspicious horses are the Tang tribute horse sculptures and paintings that are ideal for the south part of your living room.

If you want to enjoy good feng shui at work, try to select your work space carefully.

Guidelines:
•  Always try to have your office and desk in the far corner diagonal to the entrance door into the whole office. The deeper you are
inside the office, the better the feng shui.
•  Never have your office or desk located at the end of a straight corridor or walkway.
•  Do not sit in an office or at a desk that directly faces a toilet door or staircase. Your chances for advancement will be severely
curtailed.
•  Do not sit in an office or at a desk that places you directly underneath an exposed overhead beam. You will suffer from endless

3 ENERGIZING YOUR COMPASS GROUP
West Group Energizer
•  Energize the West with a model aeroplane laden with coins tied with red thread. Bells and windchimes are also effective.
•  Energize the Northwest in the same way. Do not put bright lights in either the West or Northwest as these will magnify all your
problems.
•  Energize the Southwest with lots of natural crystals. If your main office door is also located in the Southwest, then placing a
large crystal here is most effective. A large amethyst crystal boulder with a deep ‘pocket’ to capture all the good fortune

•  Energize the Northeast in the same way as the Southwest, but it is not necessary to display crystals that are too large here.

If it is incorrectly used, its power to repel may put off many of your would-be users.) Lastly, try to aim for a well-balanced design for your website. How to Make Your Knife-Shaped Room Work For You

 

Axe, Chopper, Cleaver, Knife, Tomahawk… These are merely some of the many names for an L-shaped room, which is generally not very auspicious. That is because the irregular shape means that there is one missing sector (or more) in the room, which also translates into one extra corner that sends out unfriendly Shar Chi. As the missing sector represents one of the Eight Life Aspirations, it would be very unfortunate for you if the afflicted sector in your office is the Career sector or the Wealth sector.

However, the 'axe factor' of an L-shaped room -- when correctly applied -- can easily help to place a decision-making executive in a very powerful position of control in any tough negotiation.

The first thing you should do is to distinguish between the 'knife handle' and the 'cutting edge'. The area in your room that represents the 'knife handle' is the strongest point as the heaviest concentration of energy is found here. In contrast, the area that represents the 'cutting edge' is the weakest.

Next, you should arrange for yourself to sit at the 'knife handle' to give you the added advantage of power and authority. During negotiations, make sure that the opposition is seated at the sharp 'cutting edge' so as to weaken the line of resistance. By doing so, you would have superior control within the room and be a dominating force in any discussion or meeting held within.

To avoid being hit by shar chi emitted by the poison arrows shooting out from the protruding corner, you have the option of using a number of feng shui cures. Place a piece of lead cut crystal or a leafy potted plant at the corner to absorb the shar chi. You can also make the protruding corner disappear by using mirrors.

So if your room happens to be knife-shaped, then you are in luck. Just make sure that you position yourself at the area known as the 'knife handle' to give yourself a firm grip on any situation within.

Is it ok to Use a Second-hand Designer Bag?

My sister loves buying new hand bags so when she gets a new one, I inherit her old ones! Recently she gave me one of her older LV handbags! I heard that it is not auspicious to use second-hand handbags. It’s a beautiful handbag – something I won’t be able to afford myself - so please advise!

Generally it is always more auspicious to get a brand-new handbag but if the handbag she has given you is in good condition – almost like new –then it is OK. If it has tears, holes and scratches then I suggest you do not use it. You should not receive an empty handbag – ask your sister to place an angpow containing some money inside and then it becomes very auspicious. When you receive the bag it is a good idea to cleanse it of any negative energy using incense as you chant om ah hum a few times

Canopy Sending Poison Arrows to My Balcony

My NW-facing balcony overlooks a sharp pointed canopy of the adjacent building in the left half. The right half overlooks a natural body of water. Is this auspicious ? Should I place Fu Dogs in the balcony corners?

My dear… since the poison arrow from the canopy is coming from your NW direction (which is metal element) you can minimise the harmful effects by using fire energy. Install a spot light on the top of your balcony roof and shine it back directly at the direction of the canopy. This is an effective way to diffuse the poison arrow. As for the body of water – this is of course very auspicious! Any view of the water from your home is always excellent! It’s also a good idea to place your Fu Dogs outside at the two corners of your balcony.

The Seven Auspicious Mountains on Your Hand

Mounts Reveal Strong or Weak Leadership Potential

According to the Tung Shu, the Chinese Almanac, there are seven mountains on the inner palm of the hand which reveal the inner attributes and determination levels of each person. The contours of these mountains tell us much about a person’s character and personality and they are named after the seven planets that correspond to the planets of the Great Bear. Whether the mountains bring luck or not depends on how “fleshy” and prominent they are on the palm. When they are full and obvious to the eye, they always indicate good fortune. When all seven mountains are full and prominent, this indicates a fleshy hand which is always indicative of a good and long life.

The Mountain of Jupiter This occurs as a slight raising of the flesh at the base of the index finger. If this area is full and fleshy and is matched with a long index finger, it shows that this person is very ambitious, has strong leadership abilities and has a tendency to be bossy. He/she has the fate to be the boss in any situation and is able to manage and control others. This is an honest and optimistic person, but also someone who enjoys power. If this part of the hand is flat however, such a person lacks confidence and could suffer from occasional personality disorders. Traditional Chinese families customarily display many deities in their homes and offices. These range from health and protection deities to wealth and love deities. Not surprisingly, the deities who promise wealth and financial success constitute some of the most prominently displayed by the Chinese. Most of these deities are Taoist in origin. The following is by no means an exhaustive list; these are but the most commonly found in conventional Chinese living spaces.

Tsai Shen Yeh

One of the most popular Chinese Gods of Wealth is Tsai Shen Yeh who is frequently depicted wearing a dragon robe and sitting on a tiger. Display the image of this powerful deity in your home for lots of wealth luck; in good times, he brings great prosperity; in bad times, he protects your family from poverty.
 

Kuan Kung or Kuan Ti (also the God of War)

Depicted with an expression of benign compassion, he brings immense good fortune wherever he is displayed.

Xi Wang Mu (Queen of the West)

The Queen of the West symbolizes all life aspirations including a healthy and prosperous long life filled with great honor, wealth, fame and recognition. Display an image of her in your home to keep your family together and ensure that siblings enjoy harmonious relationships. Place your image of Xi Wang Mu in the vicinity of the main entrance into your home.

Pi Kan: Military and Civilian

Pi Kan is a wealth deity that is portrayed in two very different aspects - military and civilian. He is said to have been a former sage in the 12th century who was eventually deified as an auspicious bringer of wealth.
 

Fuk Luk Sau (Three Star Gods)

Displayed in most homes collectively as the three popular star deities Fuk Luk Sau, they represent Prosperity, Authority and Longevity respectively.

The first star deity or Fuk brings wealth and prosperity into your home. Dressed in a merchant's red robe, he is depicted on the right of Luk the second star deity. Fuk Luk Sau are best displayed as together in dining and living room areas.

The Eight Immortals (Pa Hsien)

Being superior beings of Taoist legend, the Eight Immortals are widely regarded as symbols of longevity and good fortune. Comprising six men and two women, they each attained immortality under different circumstances. Often depicted as a group of eight crossing wide waters, their symbolic presence in your home bestows good health, happiness and general good fortune on every member of your family.

Along with other symbolic representations of wealth, displaying these wealth deities in your home will bring an abundance of prosperity luck into your home and plenty of happiness into your life.

Symbols of Mentors

 

As mentioned in a previous article, the compass direction that houses the trigram of power, Chien, is the northwest. Thus you should energize the northwest to activate the kind of luck that brings influential friends, mentors and advisers into your life.

One way to do this is to display images of deities, gods or powerful and successful leaders in the form of paintings, portraits, statues or figurines in the northwest corner of the home. You may use representations of the many different gods and heroes in the Chinese culture such as Kuan Kung, the legendary hero from the days of the three kingdoms - he was deified many years ago as the God of Wealth and Protection. Status of Kuan Kung stand proudly in many Chinese homes and offices, as his countenance is believed to impart protection and support from powerful people. Paintings or sculptures of religious or spiritual leaders may also be used as they represent divine blessings from heaven.

Alternatively, if you're not particularly religious, symbols that strongly suggest powerful and successful leaders of your own cultural and historical background may be used. All the great traditions of the world have their own folk heroes and legendary figures. Choose figures whose achievements or positions signify the kind of luck you desire.
 

For example, if you're an American, you may wish to display a painting of a past American president whose qualities you admire. If you're French, you can display a bust of Napoleon. If you're a budding actor or singer, you may want to get a poster of a successful actor or singer whom you idolize and wish to emulate. Or, if you're in a caring profession such as counseling, nursing or care giving and wish to learn the ways of kindness, generosity and patience of the late Mother Theresa, you'd want to get a painting of this icon.

Hanging pictures or placing statues of these mentors in the northwest of your home can be very effective. One final word of advice: the statues or figurines can be made of metal, ceramic, crystal or clay, but avoid placing statues carved out of wood in the northwest corner, as the northwest's element is metal and in the destructive cycle, metal destroys wood. This is counter-productive, and instead of energizing, it may instead suppress, or worse, destroy the mentor luck you're trying to cultivate!
