Your Furniture Can Make You ILL

Even if you do not believe in feng shui, you need to be alert to the toxins that reside within old furniture, such as leaked mercury in old clocks or formaldehyde glues in furniture made of layers of wood. Many of these hidden toxins can cause lung and chest problems, vomiting, diarrhea, high blood pressure and a host of other illnesses.

But the negative feng shui implications of old furniture which has never been reenergised with yang chi is far more serious. In so many old homes, furniture is left standing in a fixed position and never moved so that dirt gathers and energy becomes stagnant. It does not take too long for the chi to get so stale it starts to emit a great deal of sick energy.

Bookcases cause rooms to get stale

In rooms where bookcases and bookshelves line the wall and perhaps a decade or more of old books have been gathering dust through the years, sickness afflictions build up. There is a mustiness in such rooms that transcend the atmosphere so much that residents who come in regularly are sure to get affected.

It is thus important to revitalise the energy inside your home library by giving bookcases a good clean, and ensuring no dampness or dirt gets built up. Bookcases should be moved out of their corners at the end of each year, while shelves should be given a “salt wipe”. Use rock salt or sea salt lightly pressed onto a damp cloth, then wipe all surfaces of the shelves. This dissolves whatever negative illness luck might have accumulated.

Dining tables & chairs must be reenergised every year

These are important pieces of furniture in the home and special attention should be given to them. Antique sets should be given a salt wipe regularly. Dining tables should never be allowed to get chipped or broken. Regular maintenance of dining furniture is what brings good health and wealth luck to the family. If yin spirit formation is allowed to occur in the dining area, the consequences can be serious.

These are comfortable pieces of furniture which are taken so much for granted that in no time at all, tired energy builds up. Sofa sets in living rooms are less vulnerable to yin spirit formation especially when there are open windows that allow fresh energy to flow into the room. Inside bedrooms however, where doors and windows are usually kept shut, the danger of furniture being repositories of negative energy is far greater.

Pay attention to heavy drape curtains

Yin energy is always attracted to heavy drapes, especially when they are long, cover a big window and never get opened. Apart from real germs building up over time, there is also danger of negative spirits lurking in such drapes! In feng shui terms, drapes can be a source of negative energy build-up and thus must be frequently cleaned and constantly opened and closed. This ensures that energy around it does not stagnate.

Antique furniture

While these can be stunning pieces that add character and design elements to the home, they should never be introduced into a home without proper pre-cleansing and having its energy purified. Antique furniture usually carries the energy of its previous owners so it is important to use salt, pine leaves and incense to “cleanse” its energy. There are special cleansing rituals that are effective in completely rejuvenating old pieces of furniture and these involve the use of bells and other ritual implements. A simple way to rid your pieces of tired old negative energy is to use salt to clean the surfaces of the piece and then to use incense such as sandalwood to appease whatever spirit may be residing inside the furniture. Earth Tones Ideal for SW & NE Bedrooms

The interior of the sketch above is dominated by Earth tones, with colours sticking to the brown and beige categories, suggestive of earth energy. This colour scheme is suitable for bedrooms located in the Southwest and Northeast, as well as the West and Northwest sectors of the home.

The main thing wrong with this bedroom is the large floor to ceiling mirror that reflects the entire bed. Mirrors inside bedrooms can cause havoc with your feng shui, and by extension with your life, so it is a definite taboo inside bedrooms and are especially bad for master bedrooms. Any mirror reflecting the bed indicates a crowded marriage, bringing in a third party causing infidelity to creep into even the most solid of relationships.    

Even for bachelor bedrooms, mirrors reflecting the bed are not recommended because some believe this invites ghosts and spirits while you sleep. Remember that when you sleep is when you are most vulnerable, so you do not want unwanted “energies” inside the bedroom.

Window by the Side of the Bed Brings In Good Energy

The window by the side of the bed here brings in the cosmic chi and is an excellent feature of this small bedroom. A view of trees is also auspicious, suggesting growth energy. It is lucky to wake up each morning to the chirping of birds, so a window to a garden like this is excellent, bringing charm and good chi.

This bedroom is dominated by blue hues, suggestive of Water energy. This colour scheme would be suitable for bedrooms occupying the North, Southeast and East sectors of the home. The sky coloured walls allow the blue theme to be carried through without posing the unnecessary danger of “Water Above”.

Remember; never paint the walls and ceiling of a bedroom a dark blue or black, as water surrounding this way usually spells “danger”, especially if the ceiling is also blue. Light shades of blue as shown here are more akin to sky than to water, and blends harmoniously with the rest of the décor.

Sloping Ceilings Require Careful Treatments

The sloping ceiling in this bedroom suggests it is located on the top floor of the house. While sloping ceilings are not encouraged, if you cannot help it and your bedroom is dominated by a slanted ceiling, make an effort to arrange your bed carefully. To start with, make sure the bed is not placed directly under the slope as this instantly creates imbalance as you sleep.

A sloped ceiling also creates a “cramped” feeling. It is important to keep the room well lit. Brightening the room is one of the best ways of “lifting” the energy of the room, and this is an excellent way to counter any negative effects from the slanted ceiling. The Fire tones of this room are suitable for a room of this kind as fire energy rises. Such a colour scheme is also suitable for bedrooms located in the South, Southwest and Northeast.

Do note however that while red toned bedrooms are excellent for young couples who benefit from yang energy, they are not so great for couples in the twilight of their years. Red makes the blood flow a little faster, so they jazz up your love life – suitable for those looking for passion and action. But if what you want and need is a restful night’s sleep, avoid too much red.

Two Single Beds Pretending to be A Double Bed

What is glaringly obvious here are the two separate beds that share one headboard. If this bedding arrangement is for a married couple, it bodes ill for the union, as two separate mattresses pretending to be one double bed represents a fundamental split in the relationship.

Never have a bed arrangement like this if you are a newly married couple. If you want two separate beds (due to personal sleeping habits or some other reason) then have the beds appear separate. When they are pretending to be one bed, it symbolizes everything appearing rosy on the surface, but with a much darker reality.

The bright red of the bedspread dominates the bedroom, so here we see white walls with red tones that are carried throughout the décor, from the headboard to the cushions and curtains. The soft furnishings of this room make it suitable for a bedroom placed in the South corner of the house and if this is the case, then a beige or pale yellow for the wall is better than white.

Wood Dominates This Room

The Wood themed room on the right looks like one that is carried on from the rest of the house. Wood chi is always in harmony with the energy of bedrooms located in the wood sectors Southeast and East. They also enhance South located bedrooms. But there is such a thing as going over the top. Too much wood can cause insomnia.

Here, note that the walls and doors are also made of the same wood finish. It is good to see that the floor is carpet and not wood, as this softens the danger of having too much wood, creating balance within the room. The light coloured bedspread further balances the energy of the walls. A touch of red and earth tones by way of decorative features or a painting would bring additional benefits to this bedroom.

Energy Zones & the Value of Colors in Feng Shui

 

The five elements - Fire, Earth, Metal, Water and Wood - dominate the different directions of our environment. These elements are represented by specific colors and shapes, and bring increased harmony and balance when correctly used in space design, both in the home and at the office.

Colors can be used in art, cushion covers, drapes, curtains, carpets, etc. In this article, we will move through the different zones of our surroundings and discuss the energies that dominate each zone, and the colors one should use in interior décor and design.

Your Furniture Can Make You ILL

Even if you do not believe in feng shui, you need to be alert to the toxins that reside within old furniture, such as leaked mercury in old clocks or formaldehyde glues in furniture made of layers of wood. Many of these hidden toxins can cause lung and chest problems, vomiting, diarrhea, high blood pressure and a host of other illnesses.

But the negative feng shui implications of old furniture which has never been reenergised with yang chi is far more serious. In so many old homes, furniture is left standing in a fixed position and never moved so that dirt gathers and energy becomes stagnant. It does not take too long for the chi to get so stale it starts to emit a great deal of sick energy.

Bookcases cause rooms to get stale

In rooms where bookcases and bookshelves line the wall and perhaps a decade or more of old books have been gathering dust through the years, sickness afflictions build up. There is a mustiness in such rooms that transcend the atmosphere so much that residents who come in regularly are sure to get affected.

It is thus important to revitalise the energy inside your home library by giving bookcases a good clean, and ensuring no dampness or dirt gets built up. Bookcases should be moved out of their corners at the end of each year, while shelves should be given a “salt wipe”. Use rock salt or sea salt lightly pressed onto a damp cloth, then wipe all surfaces of the shelves. This dissolves whatever negative illness luck might have accumulated.

Dining tables & chairs must be reenergised every year

These are important pieces of furniture in the home and special attention should be given to them. Antique sets should be given a salt wipe regularly. Dining tables should never be allowed to get chipped or broken. Regular maintenance of dining furniture is what brings good health and wealth luck to the family. This is especially important to do inside bedrooms as it ensures that the energy affecting residents while they sleep is kept fresh and invigorated regularly. Sofa sets in living rooms are less vulnerable to yin spirit formation especially when there are open windows that allow fresh energy to flow into the room. Inside bedrooms however, where doors and windows are usually kept shut, the danger of furniture being repositories of negative energy is far greater.

Pay attention to heavy drape curtains

Yin energy is always attracted to heavy drapes, especially when they are long, cover a big window and never get opened. Apart from real germs building up over time, there is also danger of negative spirits lurking in such drapes! In feng shui terms, drapes can be a source of negative energy build-up and thus must be frequently cleaned and constantly opened and closed. This ensures that energy around it does not stagnate.

Antique furniture

While these can be stunning pieces that add character and design elements to the home, they should never be introduced into a home without proper pre-cleansing and having its energy purified. Antique furniture usually carries the energy of its previous owners so it is important to use salt, pine leaves and incense to “cleanse” its energy. There are special cleansing rituals that are effective in completely rejuvenating old pieces of furniture and these involve the use of bells and other ritual implements. A simple way to rid your pieces of tired old negative energy is to use salt to clean the surfaces of the piece and then to use incense such as sandalwood to appease whatever spirit may be residing inside the furniture. Feng Shui For The Bedroom

 

The main bedroom is the most important bedroom, as it has an enormous effect on the harmony of the home, on the well-being of its occupants and on the finances of the household.

There are four important things you need to consider:

1. The shape of the bedroom
2. The positioning of the bed
3. The sector the bedroom occupies
4. Decorative objects in the bedroom

It is best to have a rectangular or square shaped bedroom. If your bedroom has an irregular shape, try to use a good fortune symbol screen as a divider. This will transform the bedroom into a more regular shape. Never use mirrors as a feng shui cure for the bedroom.

Position your bed such that your head is pointed towards your best direction according to your Kua number. You can check your best direction here. If you cannot position your bed to face your best direction, at least try and have it face one of your other good directions.

For allocation of bedrooms, you can decide according to the later heaven Pa Kua trigrams placed around the eight directions. According to this arrangement, each direction has a representative member of the family. The chart on the right presents different members of the family and their corresponding directions.

The yin component plays an important role in the bedroom. This is because it is a place to rest, recuperate and relax. Do not make your bedroom too yang. The energy in the bedroom should suggest calm and quiet. The colour scheme used should be muted. Lighting should be dimmed and there should not be a television in the bedroom.
