Unfriendly and abrupt services in Hong Kong

Just returned from HK and from my personal experience, the city has been regressive especially the standard of service. In general non high end restaurants the service is abrupt, was very hungry during my transit at the HKIA so decided to grab a meal at Cafe de Coral, the woman who manned the cashier was unfriendly, grumpy and abrupt only when you speak English and Ang an Moh appearance she's a bit friendly as HK people generally worshiped Ang Mohs just like SG. In low end even not mid end restaurants and cafes don't expect friendly service. In high end restaurants that serve traditional food such as dim sum and roast duck or goose, the wait staff rush you to finish your food and leave. Some customers are in-considered to others around them by talking very loudly in Cantonese. Restaurant toilets are mostly filthy, better not to look closely how they prepare foods! This is Hong Kong on the surface looks modern and efficient but under the surface is something else. The MTR are too crowded and with all sorts of smell though the trains are more frequent than SG. Probably unlikely to return to visit HK as the city as it has not much to offer other than if Cathay offers special fares maybe only use HK as a transit to other destinations in North Asia as everything is more expensive than SG especially luxury goods such as LV, Hermes, Chanel, etc. Drugstore beauty products probably cheaper than SG but negligible amount. For service definitely a downgrade experience over Japan and Taiwan.

Many Sgean, think SG $$$$ very big, and goes around like a big boss in HK. I live in HK too, seen to much.

 

Even at trade fairs, my HK counterpart asked me to handle difficult sg business enquiry AT TRADE FAIR ENQUIRY, presently herself that she has a chain of shops, but only want 500 pcs of soft toys at International Toy Fair.

 

I speak Cantonese too, but I refrain from speaking English when in HK. Cos that's the main language in business.

 

Laughing stork.....factories do not produce 500 pcs...big deal...13 shops in Singapore...only wants 500 pcs...and wants exclusivity....!!!!! what a shame

Well, I always polite whether in home or foreign countries I visited but in HK politeness not always reciprocate well in fact they talked very loudly as in no one else around them, was having a dim sum in a quite up market restaurant, I was happened to be seated a table next to this loud HK woman talking loudly in Canto to her mother or a friend as in she was angry over something that made my ears hurt. Probanly Cantonese culture or something, to me they are no difference than Tiongs. They hygiene standards are the worst I ever seen. The Cathay stewardess that served my aisle blew her nose as he walked in the isle in front of passengers!

In fact they got slightly better, polite and more helpful after returning to China because the locals want to distinguish themselves from the Mainland Chinese.

 

I recall when i was at ocean park watching the animal show, standing front line, then along came a huge group of Mainland Tourist...don't know how they can push push push...end up suddenly without me knowing...kena push all the way to the back LOL

1.  Cafe de Coral - is an NO FRILLS, self service Café ( Like Koiptiam ) .   You someone to speak English and serve You ??? Go see the mirror .

 

2. Dim Sum / Roast Goose.... Turnover is Money....Typical Cheapo...ask for free tea and orders little...this u want service ?

 

4. Speaking Louding ---> that's  HK...U go France people also speaks loudly, Italy, Spain, Germany ...... too.....

 

5. High End restaurant ---> Can you afford ?

 

6. CX  Special Offers Fairs -- You said it...Special offer...You are a real cheapo...go HK on discounted fairs and want to be treated like a KING

 

7.LV, Hermes, Chanel  ---> goto 1 , someone like you goes to Café De Cal, expects to buy high end ? MY FOOT !!!!

 

Please don't bring shame to another country. Do it in your own backyard.

Why don't you go Chinatown smith street at 5pm on Saturday / Sunday evening...

 

Take business class and first class...No complains.

Cheapos are usually like to travel to JB, Batam and Bangkok.

anyway, just like bali: it has cheaper options and higher class range of hotels
many assumed all r cheapos who go for pasar malam
Some go for expenisve and huge paintings or high-class cooking lessons

my goodness why all these flaming. Very frankly i have a very close friend who spend more than $10K for a 6 day holiday in KL. He told me ,much to my surprise ,that it was a very dead cheap holiday! He stayed in the top suites at Carcosa Seri Negara, no shopping at all but enjoy inviting some close friends for lunches  and dinners at his private Seri Kinabalu suite a few years ago. That is a very cheap holiday for him. Well that is life.

Being an ex- air steward, we ever come across a passenger like you, we probably add more "ingredients to your food / drinks after your complains" when you are on budget class and have it served with a great smile to you.

I used to work in hospitality, customers are the king no matter how fussy and demanding they are as you have your job because customers is paying.

 

Don't say cheap until you have tried one of the fast food outlets in HKIA, they are NOT cheap!

Though HK wasn't a place I wanted to visit, my transit (for only 2 days) there some years back was quite ok. In fact I met a kind-hearted local who showed me the way to the building I was looking for. The eatery by the roadside served great food and I found the service quite acceptable, though not exemplary. Yes, the locals might be used to talking loudly in the restaurants, but I guess this is their culture. Rather, I am bored by the tourist spots as I find them uninteresting. The overall experience wasn't fantastic but wasn't that bad either.

I know HKIA, once you are in transit area, the first you see is fast food outlets and seriously transit means you have a limited time to grab something to eat and when you were hungry you can't be bothered just grab what you can find. I've been there done that so TS is right, HK is not my favorite place, I would rather spend my money in other friendlier destinations.

Don’t laugh at the Hongkongers. Services in Singapore isn’t that much better too. Retail assistants judge you and scan you from head to toe. Most Singaporeans have no etiquette as well and dress horribly. Worse still, the standard of spoken English is appalling and most have a kiasu mentality which is disgusting!

Aren't the majority of Sinkies are descendants of China Chinese? The traits already programmed in the DNA even though how many generations living in other land, the traits are just as disgusting as the original tiongs.

I also dont find hk appealing to me. Some people are friendly but would say 70% are not friendly. I remember the one and only once time i travelled to hk with my dad. We went to a local restaurant nearby the hotel. My dad and i went in and sat down for like 15min and no one bother to come and serve us. Then when i approached the staff there. She gave me an annoying look and asked what i want loudly in cantonese. Really jialat service. Never have that in any other places. Trully hk style service.

Went to the Elements mall for the Sky100 before We went up decided to try a restaurant, waited 10mins but no one bother to come and serve us, staff were disinterested and too busy setting up tables so We left.
