When the British were around and times were good, Hong KOng people gladly ate humble pie and tow their lines and never demonstrated for greater democracy, while under the brits, many richa nd capable hongkongers were secretly planning their getaway from hongkong in case things turn sour back in Hongkong, so many Hkgers were getting PR AND CITIZENSHIPS in all the freer western democracy countries yet they all wanted to mine the gold back in hk and were happy to eat humble pie under the brits rule. Hongkong was always part of China, it return back to CHina in 1997, and then suddenly HKg people were demanding this and that, just wait till china tightens the screws like closing the border and shutting the water taps and supplies and stop sending food and things into Hongkong then the Hkgers will know when to stop protesting . They can choose to take that rice bowl away and there is nothing you can do about it. However, that piece of paper to vote allows you to control who you want to be in leadership.
