(195cm) I came to Onsen for a short visit a few years ago and enjoyed my experience. planning to come again soon but last time was the only white guy there. Lots of staring at me. Not sure if I’m welcome there? also seemed pretty cruisey but not sure what can/ does happen there? Expand people were probably admiring your body or equipment. haha i've seen many people from different nationalities and ethnicities there. as long as you observe the rules of the place and is not disturbing anyone, no one cares where you're from. Expand I think a lot of people don't realise that it's rude to stare, or they think they're being discreet when they look at someone else but they're really looking for longer than they think they are. I feel like part of it is that usually, people aren't naked around each other, so there's a "might as well take a look" thing going on when strangers are naked around each other. The main thing to be aware of is that sexual activity is not allowed, but of course, that doesn't mean it doesn't happen. Just be respectful and discreet.
