Anyone suffer from porn addiction? Interested in your experience/advice

Recommended Posts

Does anyone here suffer from porn addiction? How do/did you deal with it? Is it affecting your life?

I ask these questions because I have this problem and it is severely affecting my life. I think I watch a lot because I'm not sexually active, still somewhat closeted and not interested in hooking up with random strangers. So it has become my only sexual outlet. But it has become very unhealthy and I find things spiralling out of control. You start watching more, become addicted, maybe get into more "extreme" things, maybe even doing very immoral or even illegal things. I need to try and stop this or at least be in control of my life because this addiction is taking over my life. I don't sleep enough, cannot concentrate at work etc etc. It's a vicious cycle. Perhaps I need to speak to someone (like a psychologist/shrink/therapist) about this.

Am interested to know other people's experience and/or advice. I'm being serious about this, so please respond in kind. Thanks.

As a former addict of porn who used to seek out images and videos of gay sex during my waking hours to printing them, I can only advise you that self-discipline and self-control are the only ways to curb the unhealthy behavior.

Awareness of the problem is the first step towards recovery. Others can only advise you what to do and I am sure you know what needs to be done based on this post and especially if you are already into immoral and illegal stuff, but it all depends on you and how determined you are to stop it.

Having other healthy hobbies as a distraction helps tremendously too. So start helping yourself now before it really takes control of your entire life.

Good luck.

Just like you, I am an introvert zenophobic gay who spends so much time watching porn and reading posts here in BW. I think we should meet as we have common hobby and ket us figure it out how we can overcome our addiction.

I think I am kind of the same. When I feel bored I tend to turn to it. Maybe the key is to not let boredom set in. And stop making porn the "default activity" when we have nothing to do. Guess we have to find another healthier activity to do and when we feel bored, we do that instead of watching porn.

  • 4 weeks later...

My opinion, reduce till it's gone.

E.g. You're watching 4 hours today so do your VERY BESTto watch 3 hours 45 mins tomorrow. Hopefully, by 2 weeks, you could control yourself to watch for only 30 mins a day then... If you're watching daily, try to watch once every 2 days till perhaps once every 6 months?

If & only if you fail, get up & beat your previous record. You can do it, Bruh!!

Keep distracting yourself with other stuff. Play sports. Play an instrument. Talk to a friend. Anything, really

All the best, Bruh!!

I jerk off to porn every night before sleep, sometimes it takes hours of the whole night on weekends. My addiction started when I was still using dial up and I'd spend hours surfing and downloading naked men pictures. When I started working and earning money, I even signed up for porn sites like Corbin Fisher, Sean Cody and Lucas Entertainment to download video clips instead. It's like a drug, you keep wanting more and newer jerk off materials. Luckily I haven't done anything extreme in life but porn does paint an unrealistic expectation when I'm having sex with others, like you'd always look for a chiseled body with abs. I do agree that I'd spend less time surfing porn when I'm busy with other things, I'd just play a video and come in 30 mins.

@joshjackson: as a discreet guy, i was in a very similar situation as you. here's what worked for me.

1. install web filters to block porn sites. the one i used for my laptop was k9 (http://www.k9webprotection.com). it's free.

2. have sex. if saunas are not for you, get a massage in jb. i recently became very sexually active and after that i lost a lot of interest in porn. i think it is temporary, but since my sexual needs have been met, i don't feel as much of a need to watch so much porn.

3. don't feel guilty about watching porn. guilt only strengthens the addiction.
