Regardless which clinic I visted in Singapore, I noticed the doctors are always an hour late when the clinic opened.  Than the number of patients seeking consultation will build up until no place to sit.  Is this a norm in Singapore?

Not all, but I know what you mean because I kena before.

Usually, I will politely ask the nurse if the doctor is in if I notice that the queue is not moving after maybe 15 minutes.

It's quite irresponsible on the part of the doctor to show up one hour after the clinic opens. Unfortunately a lot of doctors are like that: don't really care about patients - just in it for the money.

So they come in late because they don't give priority to the patients, and never bother to say sorry when they arrive (but one time there was one who did cos it was her first day and she got lost).

Sorry are you talking about the hospital setting? Because doctors covering clinics in most hospitals have inpatient duties to attend to most of the time before they go to noon clinics. Can't speak for majority; yes there are black sheeps who are sometimes MIA, god knows if they were having a one hour quickie hookup or what. But most of the time, the doctors running clinics got to attend to warded patients, doing discharges, examining new changes, do teaching etc. Before they head to clinics in the afternoon. Yea most of the time they could be caught up because of smth else that happened. The frustration is real but unfortunately with resources stretched thinly, such problems persist

Agree with magicerife....in house doctors for hospitals can get caught up with patient issues during their rounds. The clinic nurse will usually make the appointment based on an approximate time the doctor usually finishes. Day to day issues cannot be predicted during their rounds. Depends on how lucky you are on that day.

If you are referring in normal GP clinic and operation hours, if doctors are late is hard to understand why but they are human too and are subject to any issues that could cause anyone to be late.

There are also doctors, especially specialists, who maintain an independent clinic but affiliates with hospitals so that could use the OT, admit their own patients etc. If their patient in hospital having an emergency issue, they will be called to attend immediately...leaving all the patients in the clinic waiting or you have to reschedule the appointment again.

The logic is simple, though. If you can wait at a clinic, you are just not as dire as one who is already in the hospital. So if you are sick enough to need immediate care, head to the ER and not to the clinic.

This is so unprofessional! But what to do? This is Singapore! We are not known worldwide to be efficient. We are fast gaining a bad reputation worldwide. Just look at the latest news that had a worldwide impact like that uncle who was bullies by that 2 young man and woman in hawker center, our PM not invites to China One Belt One Road, the constant MRT breakdown, the china coach who kena sues by MBS and just the news about that actor who was asked to fake an accent by ABTM...and the list goes on....we are becoming the laughing stock of the world.

I am referring to family clinic, sometime hospital too.   I had fever, went to family clinic at 8.30am, doctor came in only at 9.30am.  Many patients were restless, some younger children have tendency to throw out on the spot,  the waiting room was cold, people went out to move around.  It makes one sicker than before while wating for the doctor to arrive.

Why not go to another clinic around the area?

Doctors are very important people in our society. So you expect the doctor to wait for you? Just be patient, be a good patient.
