Seems like quite a change in protocol.. I remember when I was there around 2009 it felt like the opposite, there was no topless training whatsoever, like commanders specifically told not to allow us to strip off our shirts because there might be female recruits around (which was a myth, we never saw any). I feel somewhat envious of these recruits nowadays bet its way more comfortable to train shirtless. Before their uniform is returned, any and all training will be carried out in their underwear (Above) A recruit being told to remove his uniform by his platoon sergeant. I remeber after training we'd head up to bunk immediately you see the no 4 shirts being unbuttoned and stripped off and we'd all be topless like that doing area cleaning or just hanging out.. can admire each others bare bod.. I have seen NS guys who got down-PES because of torn ligament or some back condition, but they are still very fit because they still exercise and/or work out very often. Fit yes, but cute is subjective My QM during my NSF days was fit but had a somewhat unattractive (a little bit on the ugly side) face, with a hint of cruelty in his expression. And indeed he wasn't a nice guy - very vindictive and spiteful. Even the other regulars commented on his sadistic nature. I Googled his name recently and realised that he is now married with kids, and also he signed on (not sure when he signed on but probably after his NTU studies). He would be 39 this year. My time during the late 90s it was generally forbidden to be shirtless during BMT training, unless you had a very good reason. Why is the army allowing shirtless training? Is this due to pressure from the LGBT community? Has this got anything ti do with pinkdot? The army should concentrate on training our NS men and not bend down to pressure from these groups. Besides as TS mentioned, there are females in the army, how will the females feel? For many people, the PT shirt would get drenched and you can squeeze torrents of sweat out of it. For some other people, they wanted to get rid of the PT shirt tanlines. Glad that you are fond of your old days that make up your strong character today. However, you seem to have misunderstood that removing the PT shirt would minimize heat. Nowadays, it is a very loose singlet that does not trap heat. Removing the PT shirt was a welfare privilege with the intention of avoiding utterly drenched shirt, but does not seem to automatically give rise to weaklings. I don't see anything wrong with people thinking about vanity either, and neither did I see anybody prioritizing vanity over the training. If they did, they wouldn't have tan lines in the first place - they would have applied sunblock, avoid the sun, complain say can only do PT under shade etc. I think it is also a controversial issue as to how much the men should sacrifice to defend the country, much less training to defend the country. E.g. going through xiong tekans vs higher risk of permanent injuries. However, I see that you are very patriotic, have fiery passion about the army and have gone through tough times. Are you an army regular or have continued your service as reservist or volunteer? And what advice would you give to people on how to become strong? You are saying that the present generation of NSFs are less committed to their military training simply because they train shirtless more often than your generation's NSFs? Guest runswimliftlife Posted July 7, 2017 Report Share Posted July 7, 2017 actually i find that it's quite funny what's going on with bmt training now. during my dads time (back in the late 70s - early 80s) shirtless training was pretty common. it was the standard protocol for PT. during my time (served in the late 2000s) shirtless training was a lot less common and it was more of a privilege to take off your shirt at least in bmt. i remember never really wearing a shirt in bunk or during pt when i was in unit. Now, it has gone back to having shirtless training be a common practice. I think it's a great development. quite honestly, the best way to train is going shirtless. whether it's running, climbing, martial arts its better to go without the shirt. I've even gymmed several times shirtless and it's really motivating plus you get to see your muscles working as you do the exercise. I really don't understand how exercising without a shirt on is going to damage our country's reputation. like seriously, the military in other countries do shirtless pt a lot as well. so it's not just singapore. and please don't blame it on women are around and that we should cover up. when i exercise shirtless, more women actually come up and talk to me and even flirt as well. so the conclusion, women like a man who's in shape, they are not offended by it. im sure this is the case with many of the guys here as well. i think anyone who has a problem with shirtless exercising should actually try it. i'm sure they'll love it as it is very addictive. ;P Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

The school gym was like in a basement or something it was super uncomfortable and hot so as a result the teacher in charge allowed the guys to take off shirts and work out topless! I think we pretty much all default half naked during those gym sessions by the end.. I remember one of the girls in our group joked to the teacher that she should make us take off our shorts too lol.. I am sure they secretly (or not so secretly!) enjoy watching us sweat and work out topless! but we enjoyed the feeling of shirtless exercise too Kind of funny that when I did those gym sessions in bmt even though it was all guys environment, the trainers never allow us to to go shirtless no matter what.
