Anyone has any recommendation for any massage by man in Tokyo? Do they accept foreigners? Thanks.

M2M massage in Tokyo is very Ex, about SGD300 an hour. "Normal" massage, curtain partitioned, you changed into loose fitting sort of pj's, about SGD100 an hour. Most massages now done by PRCs, some speak fluent Japanese.

Will be in Tokyo April 5 - 11

This is my first time

Would love to try an onsen. Does anyone know if there is any good one in Tokyo.

Is anyone there at the same time, perhaps hang out together

Wish I could go, love Tokyo.

Try this, http://www.ooedoonsen.jp/higaeri/english/ . You can read about it, I have never been personally but this is one big place with different types of Onsen. You can overnight at the place. You change into a Yukata/Happy Coat and you are given this tag against which you can buy food, etc. You are charged when you leave. Enjoy and please dont forget to come back and share. Safe travels.

Will be in Tokyo for a week in early Apr.  What is a recommended itinerary?  Must dos and buys?  Very excited.  Staying around Shibuya.  I am into fashion ad sight seeing.  Onsen, straight or gay, both I like.  Any recommendation for straight onsen for foreigners?

Will be in Tokyo from 2 - 7 April :) First time to Japan too and very excited.

From what I heard the good Onsens are in Hakone which is outside of Tokyo and not very single-friendly. The Ryokan (Japanese style accomodation) is also said to be quite expensive.

The one that Gast recommended is pretty much the one I have on my itinerary  :D

Who knows, you might meet declanlee there? :).

By definition, onsens are where the water comes from the ground. Very rare in Tokyo. Most of the ones are Tokyo are, by definition, Sentos i.e. which use city water from pipes. Of course to us there is not much of a difference - the difference is that ground water still contains quite a bit of (natural) mineral. Hmm.. well if you guys glow when you get back from Tokyo, you will then know if ground water was used or not. There are a few nice Sentos in Tokyo but they are mainly set away from the inner city (Ginza, Tokyo Central) - I know how to get there but would not know how to offer you directions on paper. Yeah, for the true onsen experience, go to Hakone, worth visiting.

Happy travels both. Pls share experiences and photos, if you can.  Thanks.

Thanks for sharing.

Could you please share the name of the sentos you would recommend

And also, how far is Hakone from Tokyo, and is there a particular one that you would recommend-- i tried to check on it and it seems there are a few of them. Do most of the offer overnight stay, and how do they charge.

Sorry, I dont know the names of the sentos I went to. A colleagues wife was teaching English there and her students told her about this place near Ikebukero. It was a very large 2 floor complex, massage upstairs and spa, steam room, dry room, scrub room, showers and changing room on the main floor. The dry sauna was interesting - wooden floor but covered all over the place with big white towels. There was a wide screen tv in the dry sauna and it was showing .... GOLF! There was also a scrub-room where the guys were lying on a sort of vinyl covered bed, naked, being scrubbed by a completely dressed woman.

All I can suggest is perhaps Google for them? http://travel.cnn.com/tokyo/play/best-baths-and-around-tokyo-357039

Hakone is about 1.5 to 2 hours out of Tokyo. My Japanese colleagues helped me book a weekend in a ryokan where there were 3 hot spring soak areas. Again, I have no clue what the name of the place is and how to get there now - they gave me instructions including taking the train and the bus. Surprisingly, it worked out. I remmber this Japanese guy soaking starting a conversation. Darn, I was too shy then to say (or do) much! :).

I had experience in 2 straight onsen, the one i can remember is Oedo Onsen Monogatari at Odaiba. Its nice onsen with food facilities and the setting is back to Oedo era or past history.

Its easy to access by train and its seems open very late or 24 hrs .

Once u get into the onsen, u need to choose type of kimono u like, when u walk arround retail and food court, everyone all in wearing kimono, very interesting.

They will assign a magnetic key for u, so all your purchase will key into your key and u pay upon leaving

Of course in spa area, u need to be naked, its huge spa, indoor and outdoor

Its recommend for you to do sight seeing arround Odaiba area and end by rilex at onsen

The other spa i cant remember, its cheaper but its but out of town although can access by train

La Qua spa also popular but i didnt manage to visit that onsen.

Once u reach tokyo, its bettet to collect the sight seing booklet which divide into few region, very detail info , so u can plan your trip based on the area, its also good to decide if u made more than 3 trips per day, its bettet to get daily unlimited train ticket

Inside the booklet also has coupon for tourist, like discount or free entry to selectef tourist place

The booklet is thick , arround 40 to 60

Pages with the map based on the area /suburb

For gay sauna, i went to 3 different sauna

The one behind the temple is not recomended

Check utopia , becareful the one at ueno area, the direction at utopia is not correct

Early April should still be in time to view the cherry blossoms. It started to bloom 2 days ago and will last about 2 weeks. Early April is about the tail end of the 2 weeks.

You can visit the new Skytree tower but be prepared to wait. When you arrive there, grab the sheet of paper that entitles you to buy the ticket at a specific time, which can be 2 hours later. Then go shopping at the mall below the Skytree tower. At the stipulated time, show the paper and queue up to buy ticket, which takes another 20 mins. When you are up there, you can stay as long as you wish.

You can visit the renovated Tokyo railway station.

You can also visit one of the many Tokyu Hands store as they sell many interesting stuff. There is one store at Shibuya.

At Shibuya station, there is a statue of the dog Hachiko, which faithfully waited for its owner at the railway everyday, not knowing that the owner had passed away.

Shibuya is near to Harajuku. You can go to Harajuku to walk about and perhaps visit the nearby Yoyogi park and Meiji Shrine.

Omotesando is also not far away, and has many fashion houses. You can view the nice Prada building there.

I take a lot of photos when I travel so I'll be sure to post them somewhere that public can access (normally I post on FB only).

I can't wait to go Japan! I heard the sakura started blooming yesterday...hope I can still make it during the full bloom.

Touristy wise,

- Ueno Park this is where you should be able to see the Cherry Blossom.

- Sensoji Temple in Asakusa area heard at night it's beautiful (i went in the day)

IMG_3364_zpsf9f6c4a2.jpg

IMG_3380_zps1fa3ea24.jpg

Fashion wise, yep you should drop by Harajuku

If you have time do a day trip to Yokohama (about 30 mins by train i from JR Shijuku station)

you can visit the Shin-Yokohama Ramen Museum, the decoration inside is awesome and there are many Ramen stall you can go try from around Japan. There's a small entrance fee though

IMG_3731_zps65edb0df.jpg

although you might not want to hear this but the food at Yokohama China Town is said to be good (i didn't get to try it, my friend took me to eat Yakitori instead)

If you head back to Tokyo after sunset you can take some time to see the Nippon Maru ship & Ferris Wheel (quite nice)

Anyone in Tokyo right now? how's Hanami? I'm afraid I will be too late this weekend as it's been in full bloom already for almost a week....

Not yet, will be in exactly a week's time  :(

In case you miss it in Tokyo, you can try to travel to other parts of Japan to try your luck.

I found two articles which will be useful for those travelling to Japan soon:

http://www.japan-guide.com/news/0026.html (Suggestions for other places if you miss it in Tokyo)

http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e2011.html (Cherry blossom forecast)

Happy travelling people! Might see you guys there  ^_^

Tried 24Kaikan again and it was crowded but not my cup of tea :)

The guys there are friendly though. All smiles. Quite some foreigners speaking Spanish and French often.

I also tried Masquerade.... What a disappointment haha. Tiny place and super hot inside (temperature lol).

Yes it was a Friday night. Didn't bother going back on Saturday.... entry is 2400 Yen... It was the Shinjuku one, Ueno I believe is more into bears and mature?

Masquerade is a tiny "cruising place". I wouldn't call it a sauna as there are no wet areas. not even a shower! It does say on their website though. Can't remember the website but you can look it up on Utopia.

There are just maybe 3 or 4 rooms, a toilet, a little rest/tv area and that's it.

Not that interested on saunas or hattenba, but does anyone have recommendation for night clubs in Tokyo?

I will be missing Shangri-la @ ageha since I will be there in June and the next event is in July.

Ditto for The Ring @ warehouse 702 which looks like the next event is in August.

Has anyone been to these clubs?

1. ArtsyFartsy - sounds like somewhat like PLAY with many young people (maybe not my cup of tea -_- )

2. Club Dragon - no idea but sounds cool

3. Arch - no idea but very interested in this

Would appreciate if anyone can tell me about how gay clubs are like in Tokyo.

Also, I know some bars have a dress code for how you present yourself i.e. required to have facial hair. Any good recommendation for good bars to chill at?

@Enelym, you should head to only Shinjuku 24 kaikan. Its cheaper and has the largest crowd.

Get the address and walk towards the end of the street. If you are curious, there are a few streets of gay bars near there including gay porn shops.

for M2M massage, just surf craigslist tokyo but there aren't many professional masseurs and the ones that are good, usually are registered entities which require you to speak Japanese.

Go to Shinjuku 2 chome where there are 2 streets with open door gay pubs.

You can walk in and out easily.

I think upstairs there are other clubs - open the door and you see lots of guys look at you.

Just walk in and order a drink. Sometimes, they have good deejays.

There is a sauna 24 Kaikan at the end of the street.

Japanese gay porn shops.

So that's where you want to be.

I think Ageha is happening every weekend - so check it out too.

Went to walk around at 2 chome on my last night, Saturday night it was a lively road. Open bars, gay porn shops and the 24 kaikan. The shinjuku one is definitely bigger than the Ueno one and definitely the range is much more plus it being a weekend night it was littered with guys. Quite an experience.
