How's everyone doing??

hi guys...just wanna share my experience about those saunas... personally i have visited rairua and stroke...for rairua i ve been there at least 4 times and counting...love it a lot....not bcos of the crowd ( althought they are an added bonus) but bcos that place is really classy and most imptly CLEAN...u shd have se n stroke...or rather, avoid stroke..i mean c'mon, that place simply reek of germs and everything unhygenic...there seemed to be algae at the walls of the jacuzzi( u cant even call it that), not to mention the smoking corner staked right at the corner of t e rest of the facilities....duh!! and for goodness sake, that place is soo freaky dark....not just the "activity" room which understandably shd be dark..but the rest of the corridor?? i fail to understand..... the two cubicle toilets were an equal disaste ....

as for rairua, the place is just heavens compared to stroke...three levels of facilities made that place a lot more spacious compared to stroke's one basement level of facilities...the place is also brightly lit and above all, clean and hygenic..the s aff took to cleaning the steam room every day at two spec time...

You can see young angmoh in Italian restaurant kitchens. You can see Thais working in Golden Mile stalls. All this is to encourage foreign rs to come and work here with facilities they are used to back home, and it's worked. One million are here.

Now it has dawned on the authorities that maybe up to 10 percent of foreign talent needed here, especially those on the cultural side, have gay leanings and would like to enjoy the facilities they have in Europe, the US, Australasia and Japan. So, there i implicit encouragement to entrepreneurs to open gay theme bars, discos, saunas and massage places. Maybe even a gay cinema one day. Implicit, in that they won't harass these outfits provided people don't cause public outrage.

The authorities will have thought this through carefully. Once more places are available for gays to go to (inexpensively) then they may crack down on such as overt cottaging, having it off on FR beach or on shopping centre staircases. They won't want Sin apore to become a haven for gay tourists so a careful balance will have to be kept. They must be happy to have Bangkok nearby to draw such people away from Singapore.

In summary, I see many more commercial places ahead for gays to meet, with prices coming down (Rairua's $28 will become part of folklore one day). I see much less public cruising with the authorities eventually clamping down on that in order to maintain S ngapore's image.

If the political power has shifted from that in force today, then things could get worse for us. Somehow I don't think that will happen. Let's look forward to an ever-opening gay scene. We shouldn't rock the boat by trying to speed things up too much. Mal kissing, for example, at this stage in mixed places could set things back if the press gets the public all worked up about it, with added steamy revelations of goings-on in gay places. IMHO, rairua is the best becos it's REALLY classy and beautiful. or maybe becos the owners and i share the same penchant for all things southeast asian (the decor is very indo-chinese). damn nice man!

but of cos, nice things come with a price, and the price is steepest at rairua. but i think the professionalism and all more than make up for it. i've been to rairua many times and i feel the bosses always make it a point to make me feel welcome.

stroke has improved quite a lot from its earlier days. it now has two private rooms. the decor is not nice, yes, but the crowd there seems to be more daring, dunno why. and max the owner is one wacky guy who's also quite mad, but very fun. the sleaz in stroke is definitely higher in rairua.

blue heaven is also nice, but a bit out of the way. and also next to the national mosque of singapore! i feel a little uncomfortable when i first visited the place, as i always feel very sensitive abt offending religions. i left w/o doing anything much maybe my friend Action Kid will be able to tell you more.

as for rairua's policy on asking for registration, i was told by the bosses that they do that to weed out spies from the authorities. the police spot checked on them once and although nothing happened and an unofficial endorsement of rairua's biz was a tually given (surprise!), still the bosses want to err on the safe side. but by and large, they need crowd control too. i've been to rairua and my god, it was filled to the brim. too many pple won't be fun anymore, as we need to wait for the private rooms .. that's one problem i dunno how to solve though....

I must make it a habit to go to Calif gym on Saturdays. There were so many good looking guys just now. (Raffles Place Branch)

Dear All,

Just wanna tell all of you what happened to me and my boyfriend today at a gay bar in Singapore.

My boyfriend and I went to Sugar (Mohamed Sultan Road) just now, earlier the night. Seeing that there was nobody there at the bar except the staff and us (it was after all only 9.30 pm), my bf kissed me on the lips and hugged me when we were there. We sually don?t do that if the place is crowded as there are after all some straight clients who may feel uncomfortable about such things.

But to our disappointment or should I say shock, one of the staff came forward to us and told us to refrain from kissing and hugging there. He said that it?s illegal and the police will arrest us if they see that. I looked at him, shook my head and ask d who told him to come over. He said these were his manager?s instructions. I then told him that there is no one law in Singapore that prohibits a man kissing another man on the lips, whether public or private. There isn?t any law too that forbids hugging between men. The staff was obviously tongue-tied and he could only shrug. Not wanting to make things difficult for him, I just told him it?s okay and sent him away.

I then went over to Gary, the boss of Sugar, whom I know. I told him what happened, and asked if those instructions were true. Gary, who?s also openly gay, was rather evasive about the issue, and claimed that the police in charge of the area is rather trict. I then told him that I?ve done such things before in Sugar and nothing happened. He just smiled and continued saying how strict and difficult the police has been in labelling Sugar a gay bar, etc etc. I then said many of us PLUs do such things in T boo, Niche and Why Not too. He then claimed that the police in-charge of that area is more lenient?

Sensing the animosity in the atmosphere, my bf and I decided to leave Sugar. Personally, I?m sad that my favourite bar has now decided not to welcome PLUs any longer, and even disallow us to be what we are, even at a time when there was no other client My bf and I decided that this will be our last visit to Sugar. I don?t really know the reason for this animosity, but this incident brings back memories of one of our PLUs who was assaulted by a homophobe in Sugar some time back. It seems to suggest that Sugar is no longer a gay or even a gay-friendly bar.

Just to let all of you know so that you won?t get the same treatment as me in Sugar if you happen to want to be yourself there.

Just want to offer a suggestion to those who got cheated of money.

I used to work for a debt collection department and if the other party owe you money (e.g. cheque bounced, unpaid bills), you can actually go to the small claims court to file a claim against the other party.

You don't really need to file a lot of paper work, you just need to go there, pay $50, and provide as much details/proof of debt of the other party as possible. Once filed, a date will be set for both of you to appear before a "judge". Fear not, even if the other party choose not to appear on the appointed date, the "judge" will automatically take it that the other party has forfeited his right and grant you a legal right to collect the debts from him. Therefore, if he still refuse to pay as required by law, you have the right to go to his house and confiscate whatever objects of value which u can sell to reclaim your debt.

The process is pretty straightforward and more often than not the other party will pay because of the legal hoo-ha involved. However, the date of debt should not exceed one year.

Just a suggestion.

My 2 cents worth. I dunno why he keeps advertising himself as a commando, even though he was one, it was like 10 years ago during his NS days. Secondly, he has incredibly short memory, so he could go out with you like last week and when you see him again, be prepared to be treated like a total stranger becoz he will swear he has never met you before. Thirdly, even though I was lucky enough to not have been cheated of any money by him, it was the worst time I ever spent with anyone.

It was past midnite and he insisted we go out for a movie when I didn't really want to. He chose to watch this gawd-aweful movie and slept throughout the show, and he has this really really dark rings under his eyes and when I say dark, it's like nearly black.

Try to strike any conversation with him and he will return you with incredulous stares like he doesn't understand what you are saying (duh, "commandos"!). His only contribution to the conversation are mono syllabic half-hearted answers. After the show he suddenly has to leave, and he didn't even bother to send me home, and I have to spend 15 bucks to go home by taxi for a lousy show which I didn't want to watch in the first place. My bag which I had placed under the seat of his car is soaking wet because water is seeping everywhere.

I swear this is by far the *worst* experience I ever had. He hangs around in irc in various forms of nicks and was stupid enough to message me in several occasions, forgotting each time he had been speaking to the same person. Of course I knew only after hearing his voice that it was him.

I was going to keep my mouth shut but since he had been cheating people of money, I just thought people should know what they are getting if they choose to meet up with him.
