Only a third of these women can be truly considered as 'alternative', but it's an interesting collaboration involving the queen of pop, the world's hottest female rapper, and the bad bitch from sri lanka.

As with every new Madonna release, the first time you hear "Give Me All Your Luvin'", you go "Huh? What the bloody bollocks is this??"

And then you watch the MTV and think "Oh my Gawd! It's AMAZING!"

Which it isn't at all really but catchy enough from the mother of a teenager.

Sooo addicted to Lizzy Grant AKA "just tell them I'm from Cuba" del Rey right now. Or at least the first half of the Born To Die album before the atmospherics get tedious and you start thinking if she's just back-masking Sigur Ros to cover up otherwise rather lame tracks. I'm offering 50-50 odds that she has Alainis Syndrome and sputter out once she gets over her breakup. But I love her Nancy Sinatra-esque talk-singing, even if it sounds like crap performed live on nights between Friday and Sunday.... Poor girl. Scarred for life, I swear, but maybe her SNL experience will keep her music going once wasted love loses its sting.

Oh, forgot to write about the artiste I was going to write about just now :P. Got distracted.

I'm totally getting Adele'd out: that album's been out for what, over a year now? So let's smear her a bit, muahaha.

There's a certain chanteuse who's been around for quite some time now and her voice is today suddenly being heard everywhere on the charts, despite next to nil air play for any of her music. Give you a hint: she's not MAS nor Qantas nor BA ...

It's Sia, of course! And it's probably through David Guetta for whom she sang "Titanium" that she got to know Flo Rida (who also worked with Guetta on "Club Can't Handle Me" and "Where Them Girls At") to collaborate with him on "Wild Ones".

But what's this got to do with Adele? Oh not much ... but here's an old track by Sia called "Breathe Me". Ms Adele, don't you think you should start paying some royalties? At least for having had ahem piano lessons from Ms Sia? I suppose the Glory must come from sharing the same Hometown...

The Last Shadow Puppets got sued by Muse for doing far less with The Knights of Cydonia.

been following iamwhoiam for quite awhile. Roisin x Bjork? not sure about the comparison but the effort in her music and videos are commendable.

i like when she started out in youtube as a mysterious disguise.

worth a listen.

The Small Faces is one of this year's Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductees. It is 1960s art-rock, something you'd enjoy if you like Beatles' Revolver.

The Hall of Fame has really good inductees this year:

- Guns 'n Roses: definitely the best among the 80s hair metal bands, epic rock and roll with one of the generation's best vocalist (Axl) and best guitarist (Slash)

- Red Hot Chili Peppers: perhaps not revolutionary, but numero uno example for modern funk-rock at its best

- Beastie Boys: the band responsible for merging hip-hop into rock

- Donovan: psychedelic-folk of the 1960s, an overlooked worthy competition to Bob Dylan

- Laura Nyro: very underrated female singer-songwriter, wrote some of the best songs but her songs never really hit it big until someone else covers it, hence she never get the recognition she deserves.... a definite ancestor to Tori Amos, if you listen to how she sings and plays her piano

- The Small Faces/The Faces: art-rock with a cross of roots music, I don't find them that revolutionary but they are good at what they are doing

I love at least 4 of the inductees (G&R, RHCP, Donovan, Laura).

While we're at it, here's a surprisingly good Ke$ha cover of Bob Dylan's song:

Who knew even a dumb party girl can channel out her emotion beautifully... Ke$ha had a couple of off-pitch moments singing the song, but to be fair, it's hard to sing with perfect pitch when you're crying. Plus, Bob Dylan was not even that good a singer to begin with, so I'm not complaining.

This song brought a little teardrops into my eyes last night on the dancefloor.

It inspires me to stay afloat in times when I'm shaken up, and Sia's strong vocal fits the message to a tee.

Obviously Guetta's strongest work. Perhaps only his collaboration with Kelly Rowland's When Love Takes Over can compete with it.

Anyway, Sia is a former indie musician working under trip-hop and jazz-styled pop format (well, at least before she starts working with Christina Aguilera, David Guetta, and Flo Rida, but even as of today her artistic purity remains untouched). My favorite from her early days is the piano-laden song below:

OK, here are two piano goddess albums that we alternative-loving gays can definitely look forward to this year.

I'm excited already.

Regina even have a new music video out (not her best work, but good music is good music):

Now if Tori Amos would release an album too, and I'll be on piano heaven this year. :thumb:

I like Lana too!!!! Have listened to the whole CD at least 5 times. :-)

All the tracks are great. Hmmm yayo isn't on it, I think. Mine doesn't have. But it's nice. Along with Mermaid Motel and On our way.

i dld her previous album Lana Del Rey AKA Lizzy Grant which has Yayo in it and took both albums for a spin.

wore all white with white roses in hand, plugged in LDR tracks and walking sedately down the streets.

worthy of a moment.

And Ke$ha keeps on scoring collaborations with cool rock stars like The Flaming Lips and Alice Cooper. Personally don't like any of these collaborations. I don't mind Ke$ha, and I understand that The Flaming Lips and Alice Cooper are genius talents; but these collaborations are questionable. But just FYI, though:

Alternative is back on the charts again. After the unexpected smash of Pumped Up Kicks and Adele in general despite the current dance craze, we have other alternative bands slaying #1 hit on Billboard chart effortlessly.
