Time to revive this thread again.....

Billie Eilish is quite possibly the first Gen-Z superstar.

She came across as annoying at first, but when I actually listened to her works, she's brilliant and full of ideas.

You may have heard Bad Guy with the catchy, immortal lines of:

"So you're a tough guy / Like it really rough guy / Just can't get enough guy / Chest always so puffed guy

I'm that bad type / Make your mama sad type / Make your girlfriend mad tight / Might seduce your dad type

I'm the bad guy...... duh"

Bury A Friend is intriguing with its comic horror book aesthetic which could very well be Björk on a random nightmare night.

My favorite, though, has got to be Open Eyes. So much vulnerability, maturity and beautiful singing coming out from a...... 15-year-old?

Just got to show that this lady got real talent and not all just horror gimmick.

Another lady who started off rubbing me the wrong way but had eventually grown on me is Halsey.

While she does borrow elements from alternative scene, her conscious and at times desperate attempt to brand herself as anti-pop became very tedious - especially when her music borrows as equally much from the pop scene. But hey, it's okay to be alt-pop like our good sis Regina Spektor or Lorde.

The fact that some of alternative's biggest names like Kate Bush can have a #1 UK single and Nirvana can have #1 US single demonstrates that you can be simultaneously alternative and be a reigning Queen with a capital Q without (1) shunning what makes your works adored by people; and (2) while upkeeping the standard of good (and melodic) songwriting.

Anyway, after the inescapable successes of Closer and Without Me, and more, Halsey came up with what's probably her first straight-up alt-rocker that doesn't necessarily flirt with the porn-pop world while pretending to be alternative. Rather oppositely, the tune is a straight up post-riot grrl, post-post-grunge, post-P!nk anthem; but the music video plays up like a cosplay of Rihanna from SOS, Beyonce from Why Don't You Love Me, and Lady Gaga from Bad Romance (and hey, is that Katy "Alanis Morissette" Perry of Simple in the mosh pit?) in a near-irony. Brilliant, brilliant stuff.

And it takes a lot of guts to release something as dicey as this at the height of her popularity, so you gotta respect that.

That sexy pin-up rock star Debbie Harry of Blondie gave this her sign of approval with a cameo is definitely a good sign.

I like Billie Eilish too. Her current songs are more polish. Think she was in Singapore a few years ago in Laneway,

I first heard of songs, and still my favourites are Bellyache and Idon'twannabeyouanymore
