Avecinfuser
Not sure if any of you remember this....this was before Björk became big and famous....it was what made me love her music and her voice so much. Released in 1990 by Björk & tríó Guðmundar Ingólfssonar, from their only album called Gling Gló. These are the title track Gling Gló and Ástatröfrar, they are the live versions, sang in Icelandic and very jazzy, very upbeat. Don't ask me for the translation of the title of the songs....until now I still don't know Quote Only to lie like this between the bombs, dreaming away and not alone, because time was very short. I can still remember my first ever miserable MP3 player from Creative Technologies, small little shitty thing that can only hold 20 songs??? So I have loads of CDs probably comparable to your digital collection. Now if I were to convert all my CDs digitally, then where is the fun in collecting??? I enjoy holding the CD in my hands and looking at the album art and design, reading sleeve notes and lyrics....anyway, buying and collecting CDs used to be a hobby of mine, now it's not anymore....sad Quote Only to lie like this between the bombs, dreaming away and not alone, because time was very short. derryfawne
Talking about duet, this is one of my favorite modern-day alternative duets between Damien Rice and Lisa Hannigan. To be honest, neither Damien nor Lisa are superb singers and any given vocalist could've outsung them technically, but you can feel their sincere performances and that's what matters. And damn damn, it's especially the arrangement that kills; that somber piano and heavy quiet timpani-like percussion in the background, joined with dramatic (but never overbearing) strings. It's the subtlety and fragility of the arrangement that kills; any more overblown or powerful and this would've been a corny Celine Dion ballad. And the video! Bizzare, but very touching. Very very few videos can bring tears to my eyes. Quote “Do not take life too seriously. Avecinfuser
Maybe it'll take time to grow, but I still think that Bjork is at her best when she mixes a decent balance of poppiness and eccentricity. Too much excess of the latter, as evidenced on Drawing Restraint 9 (ironic title much?), threw me off.Ok Drawing Restraint 9 isn't exactly one of her finer moments, in fact it was her more arty-farty collaboration with artist Matthew Barney. So yeah I do think sometimes her stuff needs a period for sinking in. By the way so glad you brought up that movie, have you seen it? It was jaw-droppingly amazing, I became enamored with Barney after seeing his video with her music. If you haven't really check it out, you should. This is just the trailer....the whole movie was pure cinematic orgasm.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wxsXLMbQA5Y&feature=related Quote Only to lie like this between the bombs, dreaming away and not alone, because time was very short.
